I know you said you wanted to get rid of the up and down mark making when you first put in the distant vegetation, but it did remind me of how plants might grow in a sand dune, with little triangles of sand trickling down between clumps of vegation.
Do you like to use different colors for sunrise than sunset?
From BIG to small - Sounds like bedroom talk to me. Size 12 - Yep, very close.
Thank you Mathew for such a comprehensive view into figures. You make it look so simple, and it is!, obviously it is all in the layering of colors. This is where you make it simple!!. ♥️
You are a great teacher
Thank you for this video. Do you usually paint your figures before you paint the rest of it like you did here? Or does it vary? I wanted to tell you that your midwest paintings give me a feeling that I always had when I visited my farm familyas a child. Your paintings remind me of The small town that they moved to which I was allowed to wander around in back in the day. And especially love your nighttime views of these
Thanks for taking the time to explain it.
Thank you Matthew, for sharing you experience. Your videos made me to star painting, which I had never done before. 🎉
Yes, the broken lines in trees make all the difference between childish looking trees and artistic ones.
not first here? come on :D
Thank you for these very helpful tips. 🤗
I resonated to your "Impatient" Just yesterday, I tried to paint a swan. Midway I wanted to give up. Luckily I took a break & continued painting later in the day & it turned out great. I realised how impatient I was & apparently I'm not alone on this :)
I've heard that if you put wet gauze under wet paper, the paper stays wet even longer. the time for work increases. but I haven't tried this method yet. :)
I have tried this several times and realized that the surface that wet paper is supposed to adhere to is essential for this idea to work..(I like the idea of doing it on glass…I think that might work better than wood? In the meantime, until I get a good quality result…I think I’ll continue to “tape” down my more serious projects….
So cool to watch this process!

Hi Matthew! This is my second time watching this watercolor sky/cloud tutorial. Thank you so much for doing these tutorials. I really appreciate being able to learn from artists who have perfected these techniques. Thanks.
Very well done!
Thanks I needed that🫣🥰
Thank you. I’m going to try this
Valuable
Thank you for this tutorial 🩷🌊😊very satisfying!
Outstanding- you really show what values is beyond the old 10 box scale. Thank you Matthew!
I'm self taught and still learning- in my 60s- out of touch and scared. You're a great teacher and show rather than tell. Such minute technical points so beautifully clarified ❤ thanks
A digital artist also need to learn this.
The Bead!! Genius! Thank you for sharing
Thank you for such an informative video. I really enjoyed seeing you work with your palette and especially enjoyed you listing the colors you used for each part of the painting - that is really helpful as I am learning about color mixing.
I love this. Your style is wonderful! Thank you for sharing your talent with us. You are amazing 👏
lol the minute you started with rose matter I thought, wow, he didnt wet the front and back. Great painting. Thanks for
Thanks Matthew 🙂 I’ve totally stolen your method of wetting both sides of the paper ✨👌🏼✨
Hi Matt, as always, great follow along demos. Question. You may have mentioned it somewhere but could you do a video or share your exact palette with us? Thank you so much for your great contributions.
Absolutely amazing
bait and switch
Matthew White, I think at the end you darkened the foreground water too much. At the beginning it was more beautiful. A couple of sharp and dark dry brush marks for the foreground water might have been better. Also the reflection of trees wasn’t completely dry, and when you swipe the brush, that green color mixed into water. I love your paintings but sometimes you’re darkening foreground too much 😅 I am not a master, I am learning from you and many other artists. But I think sometimes we need to skip the rules, and just do what the painting needs and what we want. 👍🏻
Ack!!! Raw sienna!!!
You know you've done well when the painting has more interest than the reference 😊. Well done 👍 ❤️🩹
Very helpful to see your process. Thank you!
Are you using a John Pike palette?

How is 100% cotton paper different from canvas? Is it that it holds shape without being stretched on a frame? Could I use it for acrylic?
This is so helpful. Thank you so much.
