You kept a small part unpainted, I mean white behind the bigger tree while you put bluish green horizon. Does it make that part brighter - a technique or Was it just unintentional?

If you notice, the tree he painted on top of that white area was warmer and more brown. The blue wash would have interfered with that color if he hadnt left it empty
