Trunks at least got to shine when future Trunks was in Z, Super and all the movies but Goten is honestly TOTALLY wasted. He literally just was created for having a fusion partner for Trunks. Goten literally had no impact and role in the story. Super is now focusing on Gohan and Broly which also again drags Trunks and Goten down. Don’t get me wrong I prefer seeing Gohan and Broly more than Trunks and Goten but there should be at least something for those two. Something like Goku, Vegeta, Gohan and Broly are busy to train with beerus on whis on their planet and they can’t return to earth because they’re in some kind of deep meditation training and then make a movie villain canon and let’s just say janemba returns and goes crazy on earth and Trunks ans Goten are the only ones that could protect earth. It's simple. Goku and Vegeta bothered to train, and the Saiyans are cowards. They invade planets while there's a full moon so they can use their oozarus. They almost never fight anyone in their base and only take on planets they know they can completely overwhelm. They never received zenkais and never gained more strength from fighting because they turned into an oozaru and started blasting.
In all fairness Goku could have finished Jiren had he stopped being that guy that wants to talk too much and admire his opponent's strength
