    What made Halo great was its balance between strategy and the ability to aim. Infinite is 90% aim and 10% strategy, which favors genetically gifted individuals. H2 and H3 seemed to be 50/50, you could not be the best aim and still be competitive. The reality is aiming has much to do with your genetics, just like sports. Halo was so fun because it was not incredibly hard to pick up. There was a skill gap obviously between the pros and ams, but it had a good balance. Coming from H5 with weapons and aiming felt pretty balanced, I still missed H2/H3 aiming, but infinite just took it even further. Years of muscle memory out the window, it is like learning a brand new game, but the aiming is just frustrating. The biggest downfall of the game, when that is the most important thing to get right.

    Infinite would be a pretty good game if the aiming was not terrible. I always loved the aiming mechanics in H2 and H3.

    They have made aiming more challenging which sucks because it basically benefits people who are genetically gifted instead of playing smart. The game is less about strategy and more about how your fast twitch is.

    I find the droves of "at it's core, Halo Infinite game-play is the best the series has ever been" people absolutely tragic because they are being listened to. They have destroyed movement logic. They have destroyed "look" logic. How else could you possibly gimp a shooter in a genre where these things are literally, at a fundamental level, a requirement for fluid gameplay? My wrist hurts during and after when I play this game. No other game puts my joints constant on the edge of pain from having to be constantly micromanaging my aim to the point that every interaction I am gripping my mouse as if I were tensely micro-adjusting a sniper rifle at long distance or flicking in close quarters. If I don't do this, I miss, and I play worse. This issue is exclusive to Halo Infinite. Movement speed is too fast, has no momentum, no inertia, just lightning speed sweaty micro-adjustments akin to Fortnite's unavoidable sweaty building mechanics. Aiming is busted too and aside from fluctuating FPS altering your mouse speed, and introducing invisible motion stutters, I have no idea what the heck is going on in that department to this day, though I have theorized. What a colossal embarrassment, truly. MCC was broken on PC for years before it got "playable." Not fixed, but band-aided, given your FPS never fluctuates, and you have the perfect sensitivity for any given engagement range. Then you shovel out a premier "PC parity promised" release and it has the same issues as the last, only worse off. Absolute nonsense that I believe might just be broken at a fundamentally unfixable level at this point, considering "we're looking into it" turned into "we think we fixed it" then "we thought we fixed it, is it fixed" to radio silence and "wait for the next game lol idk good luck I guess." I doubt very much, unfortunate as it is, that these issues will ever be fixed. Not at the least without throwing time, and people, and resources at it, which they will absolutely not do because it isn't making them enough money. Could it have? Probably. Almost definitely actually. Not, however, after finally getting to releasing the long anticipated series on an eager platform, then breaking more empty unregulated "promises," disappointing willing fans and the newly interested, then tripping over their feet with half-cooked patches missing obvious fixes for half a decade while burning yourself out from the inside as a studio. -- I have to wonder: Why do I still care so much? At some point it's as if, "how dare you," but, I suppose my bad for being so foolish and hopeful. It's never as simple as we would like it to be or ever imagine it could be. Keep buying Japan man armor though, maybe that will fix the issue.

    These settings worked well for me. Hopefully, it helps those in need. Look and Acceleration: 1, 4.5, 4.0. Look Thumbstick: 12.0, 1.0, 10.0.

    Holy crap, old Halo's aiming is basically a less aggressive version of FromSoftware's FCS (fire control system) from the Armored Core games! No wonder I felt so at home when aiming there when I started 😂

    One of the best videos about this topic. I am passionate about this specific topic since I have seen so many wrong things about it that have messed up with my gameplay. I personally got to the same conclusion when I analyzed the sens among the different Halos. The sens curves of all Halos suck, especially now more that we have better gamepads and less input lag, they maybe worked back in the day with older hardware, but right it it should be linear or close to it. But even more important, the games should have an option to customize the sens curves, that would help veery much. In fact that's what I do too, I modified the sens curve of my controller and now MCC and Halo Reach feels and controls so much better, the aim assist still messes up with my aim and brain a little bit, but I have a lot better accuracy now. I tried to do it too on Halo 3 but the sens curve in that game is so messed up I just can't make it to be better. I also wished I could control the steepness of the curve, where that steepness should start, how big the steepness should be.

    I think I know why else it feels all off its not only that but it's the recoil before halo never had recoil till 5, but it was minimal, in infinite its messes with the gameplay in my opinion, like cod makes sense they're people these are augmented solders how tf you let a gun move you when you flip tanks

    Out of all the videos i saw your help way more ,the campaign the movement looks decent but multiplayer is buggy i thought i was tripping of the delay to move horizontal. But anyway this help on my movement since i am hunting for those trophy achievements

    Insanely interesting watch. To comment on the last bit, it isn’t like headshots aren’t being prioritized but instead it feels more like you are attempting to shot something that isn’t a player. Making it hard to stick the reticle on the player at all. They have either mostly fixed this oooor… I have improved haha

    Infinite is so unfun and jerky because of the aim assist only kicking in once you're on target. And once you're there, this video shows you're not even getting feedback or can't see the player. Like I'm playing mkb because I just have more fun.

    Great video man! I’m so lost with aiming on this game! 😭 so would you say you want the smallest inner dead zone possible, with a small amount of stick drift? Axial as low as possible for both, then max input 15 on both (to activate aim assist the most) with 5 on the look

    You understand my pain on fundamental level. It's ridiculous to me that 343 thought it was a fantastic idea to gut everything halo has been since halo 2. The strafe inertia, the headshot prioritization, the aim assist, and the small radicals. I legit can't play halo infinite because it's so fundamentally different from what I, a long time halo player, am used to. I can't say I'm hopeful that 343 will fix these problems, but after season 5 it's getting to be on track. But I'm still not hopeful infinite will ever be top tier. Love your work very thought intensive

    I used to be a god at aiming in halo mcc and halo 5. Idk if it was just younger me playing halo almost everyday or I just quit playing halo altogether for about 2 months but I suck at aiming now. When halo infinite came out I was so confused on why I just sucked at aiming. I kinda got a little too mad and just quit playing infinite and switched back to halo 5.

    You say the max input threshold for some older Halo's was 5? Yet you say it was 0.95 out of 1.. how does that equal 5..

    Damn. And to think this whole time I thought I sucked at the game (which I do). But to this day, I feel like Infinite still has the same issues. Yes, content has been added and it is in a better state than it was at Season 1, but the core issues still persist. Especially on controller: it feels clunky and unresponsive with random ramping up of your aim when trying to course correct it still. I would use MnK but Halo is not Halo on MnK to me. It must be played on controller. Any other game I’m using MnK except Halo. This was a great video that broke down what is happening under the hood and it was very easy to understand. I’m glad to see someone out there giving attention to aspects of the game that seems like the community at large is ignoring. Great video!

    Great video, this really helps explain how bad the aiming system feels in Infinite compared to anything from MCC and even a lot of other shooters. Halo in particular used to feel very smooth and natural, like I could have full control over where my aim was placed. But in Infinite and Halo 5, it always felt like on controller the game just has a weird way of either constantly sliding my aim over and past my target, or not letting me make fluid micro adjustments. It is basically all or nothing with how it helps you, basically always being to little or too much, with no happy medium. The game almost perpetually feels like trying to snipe a teammate, but with all weapons. It is crazy because on paper, the way it currently is in Infinite sounds great for increasing the skill gap, but in practice it just feels extremely inconsistent, unnatural, and frustrating.

    Here I am a person who has never played halo in my life. I knew something felt odd the minute I started aiming. At times it felt like I had 0 aim assist when trying to aim with the right joystick. They can be up close and it still didn’t slow down or anything. I decided maybe this is a mnk game so I went to download it on my PC and they blocked users with VRAM less than 4gb from playing because the game is HORRIBLY optimized on PC. I will never play Halo ever again this has been such a horrible experience.
