I feel like using a 6' tall adult is unfair. In the anime, Ash is meant to be 4'7", and while he is short in that setting, he isn't crazily so. This is because most trainers in the games and anime (that we meet) are under 15. As a consequence, mons that are meant to be carryable (like Raichu, although that is pushing it a little bit) can only be so large, since a lot of trainers are 5'. Also since they are meant to be sort of like pets, only the really big ones should be bigger than people. The real wacko thing is the weights. Wailord is heavier than air... but only just.

That is definitely a fair point, the idea that a lot of Pokémon are meant to be more like pets (and thus small) was a thought that crossed my mind, though I chose to ignore it. While I'm probably not going to change anything going forward for the sack of consistency (and partial laziness), I'll almost certainly bring this up if/when I make a follow-up for Johto. Thanks for the feedback.

Good video, looking forward for more in this series, idea: add meters to the scale chart to be a bit more readable for international viewers

Great idea for avidei, a smaller Golbat will make Crobat less ackward.

1:45 Some Pokédexes have height check/comparison features, with the most recent ones being from BD/SP and the mobile version of Pokémon HOME, so you can use them to determine how different Pokémon are measured and directly see what their true average scale looks like. (Though I know of one oddity: HOME scales appliance Rotom with the same size as the appliances, rather than how it actually appears to work by the Pokédex's listed height as well as what is depicted by BD/SP's Height Check and games that semi-more accurately show scale like Legends: Arceus and S/V. So HOME isn't perfect but it should still be useful enough.)

To me, it looks like both of these Pokédexes show Golbat a bit smaller than how you show it. I'm guessing the "height" represents wingspan there.

  • @ReshiramsTrainer

I've also heard the argument that some Pokémon have it measured by wingspan, though I've also seen a lot of people say that the Pokémon really are just that big, it could be a case to case basis for all I know, though it is worth mentioning that the heights on the height chart aren't 100% accurate, as I made them myself, and it can be hard to determine how Pokémon are measured, like, are they measured to the top of there head, are they counting horns, are they counting hair, etc. and since I was using the official art, things like the Pokémon's pose & angle make it hard to determine whether the size is accurate or not (Nidoking for example). As for Pokémon height check feature, I was aware of this, but I never really consider it accurate, though I haven't used it in over 2 years, so it might be worth looking at again if/when a make a follow-up for Johto. Thanks for the feedback though.

@@ReshiramsTrainer Something I have heard from modders and observed myself is that the Pokémon models are their true scale by default and rescaled by the game depending on the situation. The BD/SP Height Check displays the models, so there's not much reason for that one to be inaccurate. If anything seems especially weird with the checkers, Scarlet/Violet is accurate for Pokémon up to a certain size, though you have to deal with the 80%-120% size variation.

07:10 Mostly Gen 5 I see. Thankfully we get Legends EZ which likely means those dex entries can be filled in as well.

Woah only the patrat line & elemental monkeys haven't been available in pokemon main series games on the switch still now that furfrou is coming to legends ZA plus thanks to pokemon go you can store the trims in pokemon home then transfer to legends ZA if this is true 🤔

I think Farfetch'd should be water/flying instead of normal/flying. I mean, Farfetch'd is duck! What do you think when you think of ducks? WATER!! Also Lickitung. It's based on an akaname, which is live in dirty bathtubs. I see potential for water-typing there. I actually think think fire/dark makes perfect sense for Incineroar (he's based on a kasha), but I suppose they could have gone with fire/ghost instead. Blaziken having fighting as a secondary type is a reference to cock fighting. Absol should have been a psychic-type, as its Pokédex says it's a prophetic that warns people of natural disasters. That should more like a psychic-type than a dark-type to me.

You need a bit more momentum in your video. The pauses are a bit too long, and it’s extremely hard to hear and understand what you are saying

  • @ReshiramsTrainer

I do agree that the pauses are a bit too long, I didn't realize just how long the pauses were until quite late into editing (and by that point I was too lazy to do anything about it). As for me being hard to hear & understand, I also completely agree, I made the music a bit too loud (first time using RSE OST instead of DPPt), there unfortunately isn't much I can do about being easier to understand, a better mic might make it slightly more comprehensible, but unfortunately my voice is just crap, I have added subtitles for this exact reason though.

Good video but the background music is a bit too loud for the voice audio, maybe turn the music down just a tad so your voice doesn't seem like it's straining against the trumpets?

I do agree that the background music is a bit loud, this was my first time using music from the Pokémon RSE OST instead of DPPt, definitely something I'll pay more attention to next time.
