Love this Alex!! Just stumbled upon this video and it was YOU! Beautifully done!
This was fantastic! Please don't take so long between vids🙂 I often dwell on concepts of rhythms as well. You covered many of my musings. I also think of celestial rhythms such as the earth's rotation on its axis or its revolution around the sun. Also terrestrial rhythms such as seasons and tides. Beautiful unheard rhythms yet add so much to our lives.
Thank you for sharing these lessons. I have a C Maj Penta steel drum. Trying to find songs and tutorials and this one is of great help. Thanks a lot once again.
So glad to hear! Thanks so much for the comment 😀
Great video, this is exactly what I needed. Thank you!
Oh that's so good to hear! Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the comment 😀
I love that sound it was almost Celtic❤🎉
It will be better with thé translation in french

Kim Kardashian breaks a nail and gets millions of views and this healing, spiritual video should too. Thank you so much for going to the trouble of doing this. 🦋🦋🦋
You’re a saint for going to the trouble of uploading these videos. I really appreciate it 🦋🦋🦋
I just ordered one, and thanks to you and your graciousness, I’m learning before it comes in 🦋🦋🦋 We appreciate you taking the time to upload these videos. 🙏🏼

Hands are more connected than the mallets
The Hands sounds lovely but both impressive. 😊
Thank you for the impressively executed review of these drums. I've been casually interested in them over the years as their popularity has grown and I found this to be very educational. This is what KZread and the internet is about. For the 8 note Kosmosky 22cm that you showed second to last. I'm having trouble locating it on their website: is it a 2 sided or classic model?
Thanks so much for your comment. The 8 note Kosmosky 22cm shown in this video is the classic model, not the 2 sided one. Hope that helps!
💜💜💜
I prefer the hands, they give a sort of underlying tone. More primal feeling.
I have a couple tongue drums. I’d like to purchase a couple more in the future. I’m a musician, and I love making improvisational musical pieces. I feel like tongue drums can really help calm down people with certain conditions or mental illness. I’m thinking abous using a tongue drum to help calm down my complex PTSD flashbacks.
That's wonderful to hear that you already have a couple of tongue drums and are considering expanding your collection. It's inspiring how you're exploring the therapeutic potential of these instruments, especially for managing conditions like complex PTSD. Music, particularly through instruments like the tongue drum, has a unique ability to create a soothing and grounding effect.
@@rootrhythm I play so many instruments. Anything from the piano, the singing bowls, the kalimba, wind chimes, tongue drums, and even singing voice. I also think it can be great for autistic meltdowns, and even as a form of communication. Music is such a great way to regulate the state of mind, and get you back in your body.
Best! 🙏 thanks
Thanks for the video, Alex! Just ordered my tongue drum yesterday, so I found this video very useful! Can't wait to start playing. 😉💜☮️
So happy to hear that! Thanks for the comment. Happy to hear this video was helpful : )
I really like the sound of these drums I've always just listen to tongue drum music during devotional time add meditation. So I've been considering on purchasing one to possibly create my own ambient music I do have some music knowledge not a lot I was in banned in 6th grade I did play the trombone. So my question is what about the ones I see on Amazon that are under $100. Is it just a good price does the quality suffer a bit ? I am very new to the tongue drum and would like to give it a shot and start playing.
So happy to hear you're drawn to the soothing sounds of tongue drums for meditative practices, and I think it's a great idea to explore creating your own ambient music with one of these instruments. So cool! When considering purchasing a tongue drum, particularly those under $100 on Amazon, it's important to keep in mind that lower-priced options may vary in quality compared to higher-end models. While these budget-friendly drums can be a good starting point for beginners, they may have limitations in terms of craftsmanship, sound quality, and durability. Here are a few things that might be helpful in making the best decision: #1 Sound Quality: Cheaper tongue drums might have a more limited tonal range or less resonance compared to higher-quality instruments. This can affect the depth and richness of the sounds you produce. #2 Durability: Build quality is another factor to consider. Lower-priced drums may be made from thinner materials that could affect their longevity and robustness. #3 Playability: The ease of playing and responsiveness of the instrument can vary. Higher-quality drums often have smoother surfaces and better tuning, making them more enjoyable to play. Since you have some musical background, you might appreciate a drum that offers good tuning and responsiveness. If possible, read reviews and listen to demos to get a sense of what to expect from different models within your budget range. Also, consider checking out local music stores where you can try out different tongue drums in person to see what feels right for you. Not all music stores carry tongue drums, so I'd just call and ask to make sure. Hope this helps and Happy Tongue Drumming : )
Chakra should.be pronounced as "chuckraw", not shockraw.
Isn't that a 30 cm Dvutone in b or a? If yes, it seems, as if you manipulated its sound. But why? I've got and play this wonderful instrument, too. Its unchanged sound is so much brighter and so much more beautiful, serene, peaceful and bell-like meditative....
Hi Annette. It's great to hear from a fellow Dvutone player! You have a keen ear - yes, the sound of the instrument was indeed adjusted for the video. The scale is still in B-Minor, just in a lower octave. Kosmosky tuned this one to A440 Hz and I changed it to bring all of the notes into a lower frequency range for a particular effect. The sound may give off a lower pitch sound, but the actual notes are still the same : ) The reason for manipulating the sound is often related to the therapeutic benefits of specific frequencies. In this case, lowering the frequency to the 200Hz range (which is what I did for this song) gives a more calming and grounding effect for me personally. Many practitioners of sound therapy and meditation find that these frequencies help induce a deeper sense of relaxation and focus. There is definitely a range of personal preferences for how pitches and frequencies resonate within the body. I'm glad to hear that you enjoy the unchanged, brighter sound of your instrument for its serene and meditative qualities. Each tone and its variations can evoke different feelings and responses in listeners. The beauty of these instruments lies in their versatility and the personal connections we form with their unique sounds. Feel free to explore different tones and techniques with your Dvutone - there's so much potential for creativity and expression! If you have any more questions or insights to share about playing this wonderful instrument, I'd love to hear them. Appreciate the listen and the comment : ) ~Alex Ray
@@rootrhythm Thank you very much for your very detailed answer! Now I can understand why you changed the sound of the Dvutone. Yes, the Dvutone offers so many different possibilities of playing and sounds, and so everyone can find out what is most beneficial and enjoyable for them! I, for example, like to bathe in chordal sounds, dissonances and consonances, which I usually play rather gently with my fingers.
@@Annette19598 Wow! That sounds beautiful and very soothing : )
Lovely one Thank you
U r osum
Awesome sound and I love your technique!

Excellent! Wonderfully calming!
Thanks Jo! So glad you gave a listen : )
Great video 🥰 thank you 😁
Where i can buy this tongue.

The placebo effect at its finest. Also, to insinuate that you can play a C-major scale with F-sharp and C-sharp is ridiculous. Instead, it's a D-major scale starting on the 7th, which sounds completely different. If you're going to use a beautiful instrument like the tongue drum for this nonsense then at least learn how to play it.
Chick is playing the tongue drum like she is in a heavy metal band. Slow it down. Why you going so fast. No healing going on with your caffinated beats.
1:02 that's smart and a great tip. My drum is being delivered rn. 😂❤. So excited 1:38 that's a gorgeous drum i love the tree design. That sounds amazing btw 😊
Thanks so much for your comment. Hope you enjoy your tongue drum when it arrives!

I'm curious why you are so positive about everything you say about it before actually trying it to get a feel for it. I don't trust reviews that are too quick to praise...especially when one is given on the house...or for free...it's easy to praise when one doesn't have to put out money...I would think that for a review...you would have to try it for a short time at least....just my thoughts
Thanks for the review. Just bought this drum yesterday and it sounds amazing! 👌
Nice
Did you also get the tiny rubber mallets with your drum? I thought they were included in drum purchase and am trying to find out the diameter of the rubber head. I'm hoping to find some that are of the same size and density of material. I wish I had understood that they were an extra when I ordered my drum. The generic mallets that I have from other drum purchases do not produce the same quality of sound whatsoever. It may just be due to the very small size but the exact material may be a factor as well. Thank you in advance if you do know the size (diameter).
Really nice! Mine has 8 notes but it's written with numbers. How can I associate the numbers with the letters notes to have the same results for chakra balancing ?
I believe #1 would be C (root), #2 D (sacral) etc...
This was very helpful. 😊 Some beautiful drums! Do you have any experience with RAV drums?
Oh man u just gave ur invention to every 3d printer on the planet dont be mad when u see cheap knockoffs in a year
It's impossible 🤪 I can't manage to multitask like that
Would you record (short) of this rythm?
I play with backing tracks and follow along with the chords or incorporate my own style into it. I record songs that sound good with the drum, and it’s pretty amazing when you’re able to play it back and hear everything come together. Playing is one thing, but I started by recording, to hear what sounds good and what doesn’t. So many songs I’ve learned through just playing my tongue drum/ pearl jam, rolling stones, ect Highly recommend pink floyd backing track. I used marker and put what each Number is and began learning chords that way. I There’s limitless possibilities with the tongue drum
Like 2 different drums. Good to see the different techniques
Such a beautiful flowing sound! Love this!
I just got an Amazon drum (a Hopwell-around $69) for Solstice. It was advertised as a C scale drum, but when I tested it against the piano, turns out it’s in Dmaj. It has 13 tongues. it’s not perfectly tuned, but it’s acceptable for just me. All but one of the tongues ring very clearly. The grooves around the central tongue are very thin, and this makes the tone a bit buzzy. Other than that, though. I’m pretty happy with it, considering the price point. It came with two rubber mallets, a mallet rest, rubber finger pads that, as far as I’m concerned are worthless since they are too big for me and slide around on my fingers, a very brief manual a book of tunes (with numbers-not notes), and an extra sheet of stick-on numbers in case the ones on the drum come off.
Hi Kathryn. Great to hear you got your first tongue drum. Your feedback on the Amazon one is really helpful to know about. Thanks for sharing and happy tongue drumming!
The simplicity of these lessons I am encouraged to buy one.I am a drummer and percussion ist. This is interesting, so you don't necessarily need to play a Pacific tune but sound and drum experimental. Its also very beautiful and as well.
Yes, I love how approachable the tongue drum is. As a fellow drummer/percussionist, it has been so fun to incorporate rudiments and apply other snare drum techniques to the tongue drum to give more dynamics to the sounds and rhythms !
Do u have an 8 inch of 8 notes steel tongue drum bc i was hoping to learn how to play it
I have several video lessons showing how to play on a 9in (8 note) tongue drum. Here is the link to one that shows different stroke techniques: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKKLrLuRmprNiLA.html
hey please may i have the notes?
