thank you for your post ,brought back memories of when I went here back in the late eighties, when it was Shanghai Reds . the building has changed but the view is the same.

It is beautiful, but the behind the beauty lies something that is not. Slavery. The blood, sweat & tears of those that contibuted to the beauty of this plantation I say "Thank you."

It's strange that we don't think about the slaves when we see the pyramids of Egypt or when we see Rome or Ottoman Turkey (which was rife with black & white slaves as recently as the last century). I wonder why that is?

Interesting. I have been seeing videos about Baltimore's hoods. Noticeable differences, like the color of the people, the amount of street garbage, the quality of the pavement.

Dude looks like me. I was born Dec 21 1961. Grew up in grand army plaza section of Brooklyn 1 block from Brooklyn museum. Saw smelled and walked same spots as he..went to P.S.9. Basquiat went to P.S.1 And frequented the Brooklyn museum. He was born Dec 22 1960. Yet we never crossed paths or met. Now I paint because of basquiat after retiring as a Trucker. We could actually pass as real btothers.

Back in the early 1970s, I would go there with my student buddies. Back then it was just warehouses and bars that catered to dock workers and seamen. Actually it was pretty safe because nobody was there! The beer was cheap and the docks were right there. Usually there was a tug or other ocean/bay worthy vessel tied up. Now it is a trendy place with lots of shops and expensive places. The square that you see in this video was not there. It was just a large open street area.
