Our mission is to provide homeowners with useful HVAC tips that can save you money! Ask any question about your residential HVAC (heating and air conditioning) system in the comments of our videos.
New videos post every Tuesday.
We also answer questions about the HVAC industry as a career and give advice to those seeking a career in the HVAC industry. We talk HVAC Technician tools and best practices.
We have been in the residential HVAC service in Olathe, Kansas since 1987 and operate as One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning.

It’s hard to believe that a half pound of refrigerant was causing the freeze up considering it doesn’t look like a microchannel coil and it probably holds quite a bit of refrigerant. I’m thinking there is something else going on here.
Real talk !!!!
JUST LOOK AT THAT COIL!!!!!!
Why you are not installing it on inside coil, outdoor or exposed to sun
Bell Boy was brand name (trademark?) of the Bell System.
Nothing lasts forever. The system is at its expected life span. New equipment or an all aluminum doesnt last any longer. Pressures are double what they used to be, combined w shrinkflation, stuff will still leak in 10-15 years.
poor overload protection circuitry is what causes something like that.
I got the same gauge set. Its awesome
And then there are the 35 year old copper and aluminum coils that we still come across every once in a while. 🤷🏻♂️
😄
☺️
Who cares what the original printed percentage was. The motors in hvac systems need the capacitors to be within ten percent of the rating. Ten percent is simply moving the decimal one place to the left. Subtract that number from the mfd rating. It should not be below that. Example: 35 mfd capacitor, 3.5 is 10%, the capacitor should not be below 31.5 mfd
What train that man so he doesn’t need a sr tech to say yeah low sc high sh, let’s charge it up.
Go watch Project Farm video for scientific facts about hvac filters. Newer hvac systems have varible speed motors that ramp up when air restriction is compromised by dirty higher rated filters. Personally i use 3m 11 merv for my unit. Seems to be the sweet spot.
Those expanding hoses dont help at all with low water pressure Mr one hour.
I think he may be trying to say don’t use a lot of water pressure as it will damage the fins and coils.
I love my Ryobi
If you didn't let it completely thaw out before checking pressures it will appear low on refrigerant when it's frozen. Could be overcharged now.
I bet the A coil is covered in a half inch of dog hair. Ive seen that burn up a compressor many times.
The filter is to prevent the oil to leave the compressor. Who give this ape a license?
I just replaced one, and I didn't have a clue on the particulars. Great video now I understand the numbers on the capacitor. Nothing worked now it functions better than ever.😊
Why was it low? Did you check for a leak?
Don't look for and repair the leak... Hack!
Save the ice for the recovery cylinder

Just move the decimal to the left divide it in half and subtract from the original number. If it’s lower than that… replace❤
Explain
You take 45 and take off 5%. It should be 42.7 microfarads. If it’s less than 42.7, change it
For those that do not have a Dad that can do this; What did all that cost? Try the EG4 Solar Mini Splits. They can run completely on solar and switch to grid when the sun goes down. You can use multiple units for zoning. They also heat in the winter. Comparing a Central AC to this Mini Split: Condenser 240VAC - L1= 18.21A L2= 15.51A Blower Motor 120VAC= 2.7A $8000.00 EG4 Solar Mini Split 6.5A DC Solar or 6.66A AC Grid Automatic Switching .35A Grid Standby Current You can run it on just solar when the sun is out. Totally Free Energy. You do not have to connect to grid at all. DIY Installation, lines pre-charged. $2600.00 Any questions?
So glad I watched this one! Best video of everything that’s out there I’ve seen so far
Are those mainly in 2 story houses? I have one in my 1 story house. What is the point of closing it at all?
When you condemn a bad/grounded compressor, take pictures of indoor coil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! before you put a new one in
Exactly. I've seen them covered in dog hair a half inch thick.
Would it affect the fan at all too?
7 A over on a 60 amp breaker. No problem.
Rich flex
If the coil is iced it’ll probably look low
But it is a closed loop system 😂🤣😂🤣
Yep
120 volts not amps just clarifying sorry
The miltimeter clearly shows 121.7 A
The plug shorted from overheated condenser. I’d bet money the condenser isn’t actually shorted, either the plug or the plug port is. Overheated condenser results from insufficient airflow through condenser coil or a low refrigerant charge in the system. Insufficient airflow is caused by either dirty/obstructed coil OR an undersized/underpowered condenser fan. Replacing the condenser won’t fix the problem, just a symptom of the problem.
I think you mean the compressor is shorted not the condenser, but we get what you’re saying. 😄
Actually when I lived in Florida I used “Scott’s one hour air”, a couple times. I know most people get sketchy on repair guys especially chains. But I never got ripped with overpriced service or repair . Prolly one of the few chain businesses I trust
Glad to hear that!

Be confident when you speak. You know what the answer is. Tell it with authority. Good job
The world needs more people like you. I struggle with this too, needed to hear it
Milwaukee….just because they’re awesome….especially if ur not a big strong guy that can manhandle the weight of a dewalt….i like Dewalt as well but Milwaukee fits me better….i tore apart a Dewalt and a Milwaukee and tried to figure out what wasn’t working in both of them…triggers on both…I looked up the part numbers on the triggers…turns out they’re both made by the same company…lol…so one company makes the triggers for all sorts of different brands…same with all the other parts inside these things lol…so essentially…brands don’t really mean a thing beyond their promised performances ….
Could it be that heat from outside is getting in? I have a "California" wall heater and even when I turn the pilot off, it still seems to be noticeably warm when I walk past the heater. Also, I do not have a heat thermostat -- I have to turn the heat on/off by opening the bottom :/
What is the brand of the chair.
I NEED THAT CHAIR!!!
Beepers SIR MIX ALOT
You gonna need a knew unut, that's gonna be $20k plus my commission...
So either it was never given the correct pressure at installation OR you have an active leak. It's a sealed system so if you plan to add refrigerant you first need to explain how that was lost in the first place.
The publication on the job is a great thing, this is how the military required us to work on the aircraft we worked on, this prvents out of date info from causing mistakes , and provides the latest changes at the actual work piont. I personally belive this is great. I know there are folks that have a wealth of knowledge built up from decades of experance and that is great: however, untill you rea h that guru level this would be a grwat substitute.
Can you join the military for hvac?
Slug not Sludge
Surprised they are adding any. Most companies would say it has a leak and you need a new system.
Considering it was only half a pound low its possible its just lost refrigerant from gauges being put on and off the system over the years, and not that the unit is leaking.
@@Ben.Spicershouldn’t even be hooking up gauges unless the temp split is off
@@one_djenty_boii_respectful6090 what if the fan speeds on high or what if the fan speeds on low that would alter your temperature differential
@@one_djenty_boii_respectful6090 what if you had a clogged evaporator coil or bad duct system reducing Air volume that could change the temperature differential
@@dre8310 On a maintenance sure, but we're not talking about a maintenance. In the video, the system was iced up.
