I'm Joe and welcome to NWI RC. I've had a passion for rc's since I was 5 years old and 42 years later I still love them. Here I want to have fun reviewing all types of brands of rc's including cars, buggies, trucks, rock crawlers, boats, airplane, helicopters, drones..

Great job on the Restoration. Looks amazing and sounds Awesome.
@@jesseortega8598 Nitros are a lot fun! I enjoy all of mine.
@@nwirc I do have one HPI Nitro RS42 that needs an Engine! The Chassis is full Titanium! I bought it back in 2002! I had the Nitro MT also! But I had to sell it! Bills needed to be paid.
Awesome! I liked the Revo Video too. I am in the process of purchasing a 2.5 TMaxx! I can't wait to get it. It will be my very first one.
@@jesseortega8598 Thank you. You're going to love it!
@@nwirc The only reason I chose the 2.5 Instead of the 3.3 was because it has reverse! The 3.3 no longer has it! Which is kinda of disappointing! But that's ok. I'm assuming I can swap in a 3.3 at some time and point. Hopefully without any issues.
@jesseortega8598 Reverse is a nice option to have. I did a 3.3 swap in a 2.5 for a friend it worked out great. He only wanted it done cause the 2.5 locked up and had a complete 3.3 laying around.
Man that thing is sweet 👌👌
Thank you. It's by far my favorite rc I own to date.
FYI Your idle is to high !!!
I fixed that after the video. It's runs awesome. I'll get a updated video out soon. Thanks
Great video! I made my stand wider so my Traxxas M41 fits between the supports. Instead of gluing the joints, I used small brass wood screws to keep it together.
That's awesome! I've made other stands to costume fit my other boats as well. Cheap diy projects and saving money at the same time.
Why didn’t you put a link for the DasBota prop?
@@user-se8wj8pv4x They are pretty easy to find on a Google. All you have to do is email him and he'll get right back to you.
5th scale tires right?
@@json216 Yes
Just got mine out and running too…was a PITA to find an affordable transmitter for it! I had everything else except that for some reason. It has been almost 10 years for me too.
@@jeepjeffy04 That's awesome! What transmitter did you go with?
@@nwirc The same as the factory original (2230). I guess they are still being made, but are $160. I found a new old stock on ebay for $100. I bought a new TQ from a local hobby shop and it doesn't work with the old receiver.
Nice..
It prob likes to run around 220 and is it broken in yet?
It's broke in now. You can see that in the second run video. It's running great with a nice smoke trail.
i have the original aluminum arm integra. i mowed lawns for a year to get it when i was 14. the can muffler was a joke lol
They weren't cheap back then either. But I bet all that hard work paid off! Do you still have it?
Just one thing, this model is far from being a toy!!!
Very true. I prob. should not of said that. This is by far my favorite rc I own.
Looks like your helper is sleeping on the job!
lol.. They know when I'm about to turn on the camera. It's kinda relaxing building with my fur babies around.
Body please?
Kyosho needs to re release the VANNING, THANKS FOR SHARING.
Kyosho needs to make re release of the VANNING, THANKS FOR SHARING.
100% Agreed 👍 I think they would be a hot seller. Especially if they design it to fit modern nitro engines.
@@nwirc Since a majority if not all of Kyosho re releases all have sold out, and then be backed ordered, it would be a no brainer,
@@nwirc I would definitely pick one up.
What the name/part number of the ESC part and also for the controller?
Those vintage gaskets can be easily laser cut.
That would be great. Just need to find someone that could make me one. Great idea.. Thanks
I had a mint baja back in the day. very similar model. It was almost uncontrollable on pavement. On dirt.. it was magic. They knew how to build them back in the day.
Might have been called Mint Las Vegas in the US. 2WD
I agree 100%..
You can also use a flat piece of cork to make a gasket next time you need one
I didn't even think of that and I may just do that. I remember in my teenage years repairing 3 wheeler carb gaskets out of cardboard. It didn't last but I was broke and wanted to have fun. Thanks for the tip!
Your using the temp gun wrong! Point it straight down towards the glowplug in order to get the best readings.
I'll keep that in mine. I'm usually all around the engine thinking I was good. Thanks for the tip.
MAD CONGRATS, always wanted one as a teenager. Thanks for sharing.
No problem. I've ran it twice and will have a updated video on the 3rd run.
I remember seeing these in the Tower Hobbies catalog. I wanted one so bad I could taste it, but running a nitro car was simply not practical at the time (I was in the Navy, yes I’m that old). By the time I could get one, they were not for sale any more.
I remember dreaming about them in the catalogs too. I ended up finding this one used and paid a small fortune for it. They are still available on mainly ebay but they are not cheap nowadays.
Awesome video
Thank you..
Wow, that thing is massive and powerful! Glad to see you back!
Thank you sir.. Can't wait to see it on 30% fuel! That will be the next video. I think it will hit the claimed 40 mph the factory says. I wanted to get a video out today but ended up with another aquarium lol.
When are you going to do a new video on this build? I also have the same car and have been in the process of moding it myself. Its been 10 months mannn 😂
I do apologize for not updating. I will do my best to get a video out on this beast very soon. I think you'll like what I have under my sleeve for it. Again sorry and promise to update soon. Thanks
U could just buy the inner fenders from Scorched RC. They work perfectly. Chassis stays spotless.
I've heard that those inner fenders work great.
@nwirc man they are a game changer. I will try to do a quick review of them this week on my channel. I had forgot to mention that I have that Spektrum setup in my Mojave RTR 6S. I have mine setup with 25T Pinion and stock spur. I run two Zeee 9000mah 4S 100c packs. LMAO! That thing is going to need some heavy duty tires and a wheelie bar on 8S.
Got the truck and runs great except issue w/ distance control..100ft (or less) is all im getting before it stalls..have to walk to it until it receives signal..any suggestions?
No I sure haven't. I will do that this weekend and will get back to you. It should definitely go farther than 100'.
Wow no 2 stroke this time?
Not this time but I do have a 2 stroke baja that will be seen soon on this channel.
NwI Rc, I have the sonic wake V1, it came with a Dynamite 120A ESC, Was running it with 2 3s batteries 120c 11.1v each, I put in 2 brand new 3s 120c 11.4v each and it burned my esc. Do you think the voltage was too high for the esc?
Are you running high speed props? That's how I blew my esc. I haven't had any issues with my 120c with stock props after replacing the stock esc. I'm definitely considering going with a 180a esc in the near future.
Any idea what a modern chassis and remote would run for a conversion on this?
Help me better understand your questions. If you're asking about a electric conversation then I would have no idea. Any remote with a compatible receiver will work with this.
You break in your engines just by letting them idle?! 😧😬
Yes. I've been doing it this way for years. I'll idle 3 or 4 tanks and let the engine cool between tanks. Then finish the break in just how you seen in this video.
Just got my batteries and learned DO NOT drive on pavement get up to speed and pow flips over and exploded a tire broke axle and 2 wheel pins there is no comparison from gas to flux wow way to much power i cant hold full throttle id say 50 mph pin it and massive wheelies just insane
Yeah it's crazy power but so much fun. It only goes as fast as you squeeze the trigger lol. I need to get street tires to do pavement speed runs.
I have a Nitro HPI Savage that you are welcome to have. I don't have the plastic body or a transmitter for it. Everything else appears to be there though if you're interested! I'm in NWI too
Absolutely.. I take it and go through it. It would definitely make for some great content for our channel. Email me [email protected] Thank you for your generosity.
@@nwircIt’s very interesting how nitro RC’s are basically worthless to people after a certain amount of time. I was given a couple old ones by an acquaintance. Very interesting to think about the logistics of everything.
This is very true.. He never contacted me which is all good. I would be more than happy to fix it up. I like all gass, nitro and electric rc's.
love the USA 1 ,i want the electric version, beautiful truck 👍👍😀😀😀👍👍
I would like to get the electric version too. I'm taking it out today to some speed runs and see if it will hit 40 mph speeds it claims out of the box.
@@nwircI think it should hit that speed 😀👍👍
@@rcplaytime Just waiting on more 20% fuel to arrive. The 33% came today but I don't want to run that in this truck while it's breaking in.
Thanks for a clear simple video. Appreciate it. I will build this tonight. Just got a sonicwake v2 and love it. So fast and fun
The best thing is you can customize it to your likings.
I just need the esc, gotta wait a bit though spent too much
Man I know the feeling.. It will be awesome once you get it up and running.
Actually my brother is absolutely correct…the Kort nozzle was glued to the rudder steering shaft…the aft grub screw isn’t 1) easily accessible and is 2) filled flush with Chinese loctite that requires removing motor to pull shaft to drill the grub 🎉out…not possible to maintain without messing up, not straight in… and the universal is a wobbly piece of junk… After tearing up the boat to grind out the stuffing tube and break out the kort nozzle, we ended up replacing the drive shaft and stuffing tube with a .187 size flex shaft and proper collet, NOW we can actually grease the shaft and easily remove the prop… You omit showing several steps that I as well as others who have this thing have noted..the running gear is Not designed to be maintained which is a shame. As it’s an easy fix at the factory level
Number 69
That is fkn ridiculously cool Great car to have
Thank you. It's by far my favorite in my collection.
The negative pin in the wand melts and moves up into the wand
I'll be taking all of my hands apart and redoing the soldering joints and will check that negative pin. Thank you
Thats so cool! I'm incredibly happy for you and feel the childhood joy. awesome solution for a starter. Subscribed
It's by far my favorite rc to date. It bring back my childhood as well.
I'm at the point in the video where you start to hear it fire when youre first turning it over! I'm right there with you. I want to lend a helping hand lol. It's gonna start lets go! okay i watched more. holy shit that was a suprise fire up! No smoke- thats making me a little nervous for break in. runs absolutly awesome though! So cool! that thing is so clean.
I must have overlooked the smoke from being excited to get it started. I fixed that issue in the second run video. I've only had it out twice and plan on running it this weekend.
Smc racing battery’s
I have some and love them. Thanks
To answer your question about the starter issue, the wand is where your issue is. If you take the wand apart you will most likely notice a lot of cold solder joints, for some reason 9 out of every 10 of these wands seem to have the cold somder joint issue and will most of the time just cause the glow plug section of the wand not ro work but in sone cases it does have issues like you mentioned. If you decide you want to fix this issue all you have to do is take te wand apart and redo all the solder joints. Good luck
That's some awesome advice! I have 4 of those wands and will redo all the soldier points. Thanks
one way bearing clean it
I ended up replacing it with a new one but cleaned and saved the old one. Thanks
Did you ever do the test video? I couldn’t find it on your channel
Not yet but hopefully soon. It was definitely one of my favorite builds though.
Man this bring back memories, after running grasshopper hornet and rc 10 I wanted to try gas and my dad bought this for me in '89..had the big starter that you had to hook up to your car battery
That's an awesome story. I had the battery cable starter style as well back in the late 80s. I had a choice to buy a used Vanning or RC 10 and went nitro cause I thought it was the coolest thing as a teen. Unfortunately it had gotten stolen from about 9 years ago. I bought this one around 2 years ago and only ran it twice. It's just awesome to own one again.
@@nwirc yup that's the one and glad to hear you used that as well ..aww man that sucks damn thiefs and yes diffently wanted to hear that sound like a dirt bike and that chain driven was awesome.. sold mine when I went off to college but now regretting it..
@nwirc we were fortunate kids because they were $400-500 and that was alot of money back then, brand new dirt bike was like $700 -800 ..
@@Jayski2 Mine was $350 used but in great shape back then. My aunt bought it for as a gift so I could go have fun with my cousin. He had the Burns Dx.
i use to drool over these as a kid in the 80s in tower hobbies magazine.
I did the same thing. I did get a used one back then but it was cheap.
Those newer EZ Starts don't always properly seat in the connector on the truck. I had to expand the female connectors in my EZ Start box to get it to properly seat every time.
Thank you for the tip. I will look into this soon.
💭🤔Just love it so how can I pay you to do mine 🤷🏽♂️just saying 🫡💯🔥
I wouldn't charge much at all.. Basically parts and shipping but I just don't have the time brother. I can barely keep up with my daily chores with all that's going on. For me building is the best part of this hobby.
