I absolutely love that M, especially the wide front. Never understood why Farmall put the tie rods and steering out front ,but that is sweet!! Then the Johnny Popper on the rake, man that makes a beautiful windrow!! The tedder worked great!! The dumbest question ever I know, but what is the deciding factor with round bales vs big squares? I do too. I think it makes it not turn as well, oh well. It makes it a rare bird with that front end these days. I didn't know what to expect with the tedder, but it was a huge help in drying the hay before the rain. I like to round bale most of the grass/meadows because they are low and small areas, the square baler is heavy and not very nimble. Most of the alfalfa gets made into squares, they are easier to control the amount going into a TMR. I wish we could send you some of this rain. Thanks Nelson.😁🇺🇸🇺🇸👨🌾🚜🚜🛻🍻🍻

Nice alfalfa. Love the sound of that big IH mowing. Tedder makes a huge difference for us as long as hay is damp when you hit it. No way can we make dry hay yet with fields standing in water. What makes you choose round for some and big square for others?

Thanks. The tedder is proving to be a good purchase this year. It's wet here as well. I usually round bale most of my grass hay, as those areas are small and low, my square baling rig is quite heavy. The alfalfa will usually get put into squares. In my opinion a square bale is easier to fine tune the ration in a TMR.

I’m envious of blue sky and green hay. Cool shot up on the Harvestore. Man, that Deere gets right along with the chopper. I can smell the sweet haylige from here. Interesting process. Nice catch on that bearing so it didn’t fall off in the field. How many acres will you store this year.

Haylage on a pile at 30-40%will test /feeds well. Better a bit dry. Keeps the metabolic problems down with fresh cows. Looks like a decent crop.

We are having a hard time getting first crop of hay up. Jay had surgery on an eye and is laid up for a few more days. I offered to mow it for him but there is rain in the forecast for nearly every day. He wants to chop now but the chopping crew isn’t too keen on it because of the 5 miles of road travel. I hope he talks them into it

That's some great looking hay you're putting up! Until you mentioned it, I forgot about the need for drier hay in upright silos vs bunkers. Most of the big farms around here switched to bunk 30 years ago & chop sopping wet hay & corn. Almost doesn't seem like it's been that long.

Most don't want it too wet in the pit, anything running out, is nutrition down the drain. Literally. Only a few uprights around here.. otherwise it's all pit storage. Not many in use now, only 2 or 3 dairies left in the county. 😢

Kinda figured the silo would be empty….as I recall I don’t think you chopped any haylage last year. In my opinion harvestore silos are still the best way to handle haylage

Pitched the milkers & kept the equipment to cash crop & custom work. What percentage does silage get dried down to these days? Think it was around 30% years ago.

That all looks so familiar. In fact, my neighbors filled their bunker silo yesterday and I'm gonna help them cover it this evening. It's a twice a year ritual - haylage in the spring and corn in the fall.

Part of the reason. Trucks don't do well in mud come corn silage. I don't think anyone has been able to make dry hay around here yet. It's been wet.🍻🍻

It puts it's time in. Unsure if it is a spring or just all the water coming from the higher part of the field. There could possibly be a drain tile there that is broken, I might check into it this fall. I'm sure you have been busy.👍🍻🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸👨🌾🌾🌽🌽🚜🛻

Part of the reason. Trucks don't do well in mud come corn silage. I don't think anyone has been able to make dry hay around here yet. It's been wet.🍻🍻
