    I hear you. I used to want completely clear counters. But then I didn't like taking everything out all the time and putting things back. I stopped and thought, "the counters are there for a purpose! The kitchen is supposed to be a place where you PREPARE FOOD! How could I prepare food when all the materials weren't available?! My counters have some stuff on them now. Just enough to be productive in there when needed.😀

    This was a nice change of advice Jen. I do get stressed with the declutter but I think for me it comes from a place of grief When my mom passed away, and it was time to sell their home, my sister and I had a hard time deciding what to do with all of the stuff. To be honest, my mom didn't have a lot of stuff to begin with, but there were a lot of memories we had to learn that we couldn't keep everything. I didn't want or don't want my boys to have that same experience. I recognize however, it definitely recognize decluttering doesn't need to take up your entire life! I honestly hate decluttering 😆 I much rather spend time doing enjoyable things with my family. Thank you for sharing this, it's a great reminder that decluttering can clutter your mind if you allow it to. Life's too short for that nonsense!

  • @beautifullifesageg.3951

    I’m glad you can appreciate the message. I understand about the grief too. When my mom passed a few years back, although I already had much of her stuff after they downsized into independent living home, I had to decide what I would now do with her china, collectibles, her furniture, her linens…it was hard. I found a solution though and worked through the emotions around it. And for the same reasons…I didn’t want MY kids to have to deal with two generations of stuff. There’s still some work to be done…but when I have the energy and focus…which IS NOT now. lol.

    Great video! I have friends who keep their homes immaculate then say their house needs cleaning. So crazy! My house is definitely lived in, it's not a wreck, but it's a little cluttered mainly because I have a small home. It's just me and my husband, but he is super messy, so it's impossible for me to keep my home looking perfect even if I wanted to. I wouldn't want to live in a museum. When I go to other people's homes that are immaculate it makes me uncomfortable. 🫤

    Love this! I have a family member who keeps her home so pristine it looks staged. It makes her happy (I think) but to me it looks unwelcoming and almost dead inside. I like to walk into my home and know that people actually live there. I’ve significantly downsized post-kids, getting rid of 90% of my possessions and so no matter how much stuff I have laying around, it looks tidier than ever!

  • @beautifullifesageg.3951
    @beautifullifesageg.39514 күн бұрын

    Yes…THAT kind of decluttering is of value. And when less people are living here, I plan to do the same! Daily decluttering (formerly known as “tidying up”) serves me no purpose at this point when in two seconds flat, someone can walk in a room and clutter it up again! LOL. Since I have the TIDY bug in me, I may have my home like yours…in a few years! 😉✨💕

    Hey friend, I love this different perspective! I used to be obsessed with decluttering and minimalism as a family, but living with maximalists has been a real eye-opener. Trying to keep everything tidy was exhausting and made me cranky, especially when no one else was on board. I've realized it's okay for our home to not look like a magazine spread. It's a place we live, not a showroom. My husband is totally right about that. Letting go of perfectionism has been a huge relief for my mental health 💚
