Well presented! Thank you! Is there wheelchair assistance available for seniors who need support, to carry them from the station to the rail? And is there a rental car office near by the station in Ottawa? I am planning on taking my senior parents from Toronto to Ottawa for a 3 day tour, mid-August this year, and your video is really helpful.
These are good questions and best left to VIAs website or help centre. I did another via video from Ottawa - Montreal and you can see inside Ottawa stn at the start which may provide some clarity. Enjoy your trip!.
Thank you for your thoughts! This was by far the most detailed review I've watched so far! Most around the same time or longer didn't get explain half of what you did!
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. Sometimes I think I'm too analytical >.<. I just rode one of their new trains a few weeks back, so that video will be coming up in the next few months!
Hi Andrew, Excellent Video. I'm envisaging travelling to SIA Changi Airport then onto Bangkok. Were you happy with your seat 16K if facing forward is the window on the right next to the seat. Any comments on the dual seating. If you happen to take a flight on SIA A350-900 from BNE to SIA please let me know. I'm a 75 year male and never flown with SIA always Thai Airways. They stopped direct flights leaving BNE to BKK. So now I will use SIA unfortunately layover at Changi. Your help would be greatly appreciated indeed. John Mc ( Gold Coast Australia ) Take care
Gold Coast! Wonderful place...was there in March! A) my seat was right beside the window. In the cabin overview I mention which rows the seats are by the window and which are by the aisle. All seats are great anyway. B) I have no plans for Australia travel at this point. Last year, I did Sydney - Singapore. That video may be of value: kzread.info/dash/bejne/onmumauRc5XHYaw.htmlsi=YZFwvjnqDp8Y-hJ1 C) although you have a layover in SIN, it's a very good airport to transfer. Enjoy your trip John. Thanks for watching!
I can't imagine sitting on this plane for longer than a few hours, and even then, I would consider this to be an uncomfortable flying experience. I wonder how much success the airline will have on these longer haul services.
It definitely takes some people some time to get used to long haul flights. Porter only serves North America with their longest flight being Toronto to LA.. so not long haul in the traditional sense. But they do offer a nice product for north American travel.
Wait? What? U do not get any mileage accrued for traveling?!?!? What thats crazy
To my surprise, no. Mileage accumulation is based on booking class (there's a lot of them). In my particular ticket, there was none for this leg, but others there was for this itinerary.
Great video and review!
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it!
The chicken satay is not considered as an appetiser but more for an accompaniment with your drinks instead of the nuts. And its only served when a full lunch or dinner is featured and also depending on the time of departure.
Good to know. Before this flight, I was unaware of a different service for overnight flights.
Great trip Andrew, I'm so glad you were able to enjoy Singapore, even better that you were able to travel in Business, having the lounge at your disposal, being able to shower, the delicious food on the flight, it's a pleasure to see you happy and imagine you happy traveling hahaha. Greetings from Chile! Have a nice week :)
Many thanks Ariel! Singapore is a great place to visit. I hope you can too one day. I'm sure you'll like the buses which connect Singapore with KL. This was definitely a treat, but a long way to reach Canada, but we enjoy travel I did not mind. Many greetings from Toronto!
Governments of both main parties have neglected Canada's railways. Service is slow on antiquated tracks. Canada is not a serious country.
Agreed. Many years of funding cuts did no one any good. Rode their new trains last week, so looks like they're doing something right..but will take a lot of investments if they're serious about rail travel in this country.
I'm going to Japan on august 3rd, any tips? Great video by the way!
Drink lots of mugi-cha and keep cool cause she's gonna be a hot one! Enjoy your trip!
Another great review! The fact you get that much space on regional business class in Asia is so amazing. I'm jealous we don't have those types of air corridors here in North America to jump onto cheaper business class. seats.
Thanks Daniel! Ya, finding deals for bus. in north america is a bit more tricky...sometimes I can't get a econ flight for that price
Flying into Haneda is a huge plus it's way closer to tokyo and the shinkansen if you're moving on elsewhere. Naritas good but it's an hour and a bit to tokyo
Totally agree. My choice when flying to/from Tokyo!
Why in the world would anybody fly on American, when you would have a 1000% better flight with ANA or JAL airlines. Better food, better service, and definitely better overall flight experience.
All comes down to the almighty dollar. Japanese carriers offer very good service, but it comes at a premium, and neither service YYZ. If I can, I try to get a codeshare w/ AA on JAL. Did it in 2023...good deal!
For transfers I prefer DFW, but because I’m usually flying out of MEX I avoid transferring at ORD: even after an expensive refit T5 is still a cluster. (That shouldn’t deter one from visiting Chicago though, great city)
Agree. Would choose DFW/ORD any day, especially if I'm clearing immigration there.
What time was this flight if it arrived before 3pm in HND you are going to make UA130 HND-EWR Terminal C. If you are doing this inbound from Canada you would be clearing customs in Toronto for EWR Terminal C if UA AC if Terminal A then UA131 to NH HND-KIX
Flight times are posted in the video. I don't really fly UA, so I can't help you there.
Genuinely impressed at the information you got for a spontaneous video!
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm glad they maintained the old line for this run! Great thing to do in Kyoto!
The 4:3 aspect ratio IFE screen should make an honourable mention
hehe it absolutely should!
I just booked an airline to Japan and I will be taking this airline when I return to Thailand.
Nice! Should be a good flight. Remember to pre-purchase any larger meals if you want before your flight!
Very helpful video for those of us who have never been there. Thank u!
Thanks! Enjoy your trip!
Will be flying with Porter for first time ever EDM to Fort Lauderdale. I used to be die hard WestJet. But they are now expensive and options are bad. Porter sounds great!
Porter is a good option, especially now with these planes. They provide fantastic service. I am happy to see they reach Western Canada now and offer us another option! Enjoy the trip!
when do they come out with the 20% off?
Check Porter's website, or sign up for their emails. It happens every so often.
do the regular seats offer water?
I don't see why not.
They're only flying that route to keep the slot at Haneda.
That's what I've been told. Good slot to keep. Still a viable option to reach Australia.
Great video! Just checking, did you say that air vents are not installed on this flight lol??? Does that mean it is hot on the plane lol?
Many airlines' dreamliners don't have the overhead adjustable air control installed. It's quite cool on the plane ❄️.
very informative
Taking this next week, great vid!
Nice. via has new train sets. Check the website. Maybe you'll be on the new one!
It's unfortunate, before COVID the business class lounge used to serve small snacks, and the meal was more substantial. There was a salad/appetiser course that was served prior to the main course. This service was reduced and never reinstated again. Perhaps they should focus less on the mask recommendation at the start of the trip and instead provide more food for their customers...
I didn't know what their service was like before corona. Sad to see they didn't go back to it, but not surprised tbh. With the new trains I hope they step up their game and quit with their luggage nonsense.
AA is known to have the best Asian service compared to delta and United. That’s one thing they do right
Never flew the other two trans-pacific. I'm intrigued.
My longest flight was Incheon, Korea to Washington, DC which was 6954 miles. Next was Washington to Tokyo which was 6725 miles and my third longest was from Algiers to Oakland, CA in 1977 on a nearly empty first generation 747 charter which was 6217 miles. (A real feat for an old 747)
Wow! I'm sure there are quite some memories on that 747 fly flight!
When you travel to Rio Brazil
Probably not for a very long time. Especially since I would need a visa for Brazil.
greedy european airlines would consider this premium economy
To be fair, this would almost be premium econ w/ N. American carriers. Japanese carriers really do a fantastic job!
May I ask are you a consultant? You seem to be flying every 2-3 weeks or so (Im in highschool and someday I would like to work in Japan maybe)
No I am not. I don't fly so often...just on my holidays and then create videos throughout the year. You may want to look into the working holiday visa program... depending on your nationality you can visa counties such as Japan for longer periods of time.
Thank you for this informative video. What month were you there? We are thinking to travel in November.
I think it was late August 🤔. Some things in the park are seasonal .. do double check with the website for timings etc. Bring a touque if going in Nov!
Many thanks
Great video thanks 🙏
January 2023 ???
I have snagged a 1200 usd itinerary on the same route with American Airlines. As such, your review is really amazingly informative and helpful.
12 hundred is a good snag. Enjoy your trip!
Why are all the females sitting at the back of the plane, then no one in the middle seats? Anyone ever told that due to their carry on weight they had to sit at the back of the plane?
Didn't notice it until you mentioned it...but I doubt it. The plane wasn't terribly full this day.
One of my biggest complaints with VIA Rail is the restriction on baggage weight. Message to VIA: "YOU ARE NOT A PLANE! You do not need weight restrictions. I presume the train is staying on the ground, no?" Planes need this so that they can get off the ground. Trains do not have this same restriction so why make it a big issue when boarding trains. By eliminating the weight restrictions you would get many more people travelling by train that couldn't fly without paying extra for overweight baggage. It would be a good selling point. But as it stands, you, Via Rail are destroying the capability of Canadians to travel effectively and efficiently.
💯 Useless policy.
I actually didn't buy a crab this time 😭
Thanks for posting, saw Peach check in at Kaohsiung Taiwan last week. Nice to see a new airline :D
Nice! Ya they're a nice budget carrier to bounce around Asia with.
Some video discrepancies, VH-8IC was Virgins second MAX 8 Aircraft so depending when you filmed they would've had at least 2, currently they have 5 delivered. Also the IFE system does have a moving map its just in a strange location to get to. Overall a pretty good review really enjoyed watching
Glad you enjoyed it. Ya at time of editing, VA only listed a fleet of 1 on their website (still to this day). Map must be tucked away pretty good. Would be better placed to where the Barbie movie was 🤣
@@theglobalpeasant Classic VA always slow to update. I have seen all 5 Max's personally you can check on flight radar VH-8IA,8IB,8IC,8ID and 8IF and they'll all come up. I've confirmed the moving map is in the first screen you go to when connecting to it, instead of going to the movies, scroll all the way to the bottom and then it'll be on the left if you ever fly again and hasn't changed by then :)
I have a better question, why go to Thunder Bay in winter?
Why not go to Thunder Bay? It's superior by nature!
If the bag doesn’t fit, you must acquit!
I prefer the single seat option. Worth it for me.
Fair enough... Not a bad way to travel!
Sorry can I clarify if the headrest will allow the sides to flip out for your head to rest on? I did watch the video but it did'nt seem to extend out much. Would really really appreciate a response!
The head rest is malleable, but I don't recall any further horizontal extensions.
Great report on REX. I have flown with them many times on the SAAB 340 and 737. I will rather pay a bit more for REX than take my chances with Jetstar.
Glad you enjoyed it. The Saab is on my list. Haven't been on that plane for over 10 years!
Great video, very informative 👍👍👍 Thanks for sharing 🙏❤
Glad you enjoyed!
A third world train in a second world country. There are a 1000 better choices
Very well presented video. I think the lack of lounge access answers the question: Porter Reserve is premium economy, not business class. With a standard business class fare on other airlines, most travelers would expect lounge access to be included.
This is true, at least in Canada. Porter Reserve is generally (not always) cheaper than WS or AC bus class. The included food and drinks are quite welcomed. Fun fact, Porter used to have their own "lounge" in YTZ offering complementary snacks and drinks, but this is a thing of the past.
Hopefully, some day you will be ableble to fly to North Korea 🙏
