Has anyone done any testing of the page navigation on more complex books i.e. sidebars and fullpage images to see what kind of choices InDesign makes? I know this was a bit fraught using the pagestaker script.

The page navigation feature is much better in the pre-release already. The most egregious thing the export does is to skip blank pages.

Hi Laura. Thank you for this extensive series, I watched it through and found a lot of good suggestions and also a couple of ideas for improvement in my flows. Even if I parse / produce with theses formats (and PDF) every workday I still found a couple of things that I never heard / thought about. Keep up the great work, let's make the world more accessible. Best regards Daniel

After parsing PDF for 8+ years I do concur that PDF is a special word.

I am amazed that after a year, this wonderful series apparently only has a few hundred views. I'm finding it tremendously useful.

This is extremely helpful. Thank you so much for your hard work! I am deeply disappointed that this process is so involved though. Shame on Adobe!

If epub:type is meaningless why don’t you remove all of them?
@laurabrady22052 ай бұрын
I use epub:type as scaffolding upon which to layer DPUB ARIA. Also, you do need epub:type for pop-up footnotes.

Do you recommend adding page numbers in there’s no printed version of the book? It feels somewhat weird, because depending on the size of the device, there will be more or less page turns.

I do. It's another nice layer of navigation. Can't hurt, might help.

Thanks for making these videos. I have watched your older course on LinkedIn Learning, and I learned a lot. There are basically no one on the Portuguese language internet teaching how to make accessible, or good quality in general, epubs. That fact makes your content even more valuable to several bilingual people around the world.

Hi, thanks for these videos! did you have the word file check list mentioned that I can download? Thanks! I have some errors in Ace, but am not really a coder (basic css). So trying to work out how the role tags are incorporated in.

I use epub FlightDeck to validate and it tends to add its own id=<"flightdeck_(date, rights, language, etc.)_####"> Should I get rid of them?

If you have to make edits after you have exported to ePub, do you have to run this script each time or no?

FYI, BBEdit will in fact edit the zipped epub. It just insists you save everytime you change xhtml files

Thanks for the info. I am at my wits end. When I export I get my rasterized title and then a duplicate title page not rasterized. I have tried everything. I even deleted the title page to see what would happen, and then I got the copyright page duplicated. I have no idea what to do! If you have any pointers I would really appreciate it! thanks

You need to go into the content.opf file and mark that title page as non-linear. And ebook has to have some kind of cover so that something shows up on the bookshelf.

You could also build into your Chapter Name P style, a nested style to apply the script font to "Chapter/s/d" or up to a soft return.

I am enjoying your series. Very informative for the new or inexperienced InDesign user. I use all these techniques all the time and I am 100% print only. One thing, probably overkill/advanced, but you could use a GREP in your text paragraph style so that any month followed by a space and a number become non-breaking (also requires a character style "no break"). This would do this automatically and you wouldn't even have to think about it. Not sure how that conveys to accessibility, though. So good to see you putting out more videos, Laura. I have learnt an incredible amount from your tutorials. I never knew about DAISY until I saw your videos. One point of note down the bottom in "Preflight", you are showing "1 error". I am a newbie, but preflight is one of my go-to components to check stuff before publishing, and there is so much you can do with it in the settings if you fine-tune it. Thank you!

This is the first time I've seen an explanation why you'd want to distinguish between <em> and <I> italics, thanks!
