I love exploring the (natural) world around me through my lens. And I also love exploring old and new gear to do that with - mostly micro four thirds. I make videos about both.

I currently use an E-M10 Mark II and had been considering upgrading to one of the E-M1 or OM-1models, but realised that I far prefer the feel of my E-M10 Mark II to my old E-330, which is very similar in overall size (though a fair bit heavier) to the OM-1. Other than a bigger (though still small compared to the OM-1and E-330) grip, the E-M5 MarkIII or OM-5 is hardly any bigger than the E-M10, but would be a big upgrade. For a compact travel setup, I use a Lowepro Format 120 bag. Camera with 14-42 EZ zoom fitted, 40-150 zoom and Metz 36 AF-40 flash (which I originally bought for the E-330) all fit in the case, with four spare batteries and USB cable going in the pockets. I usually also clip a lens bag containing a 75-30 zoom to the strap fittings. Pretty sure the E-M5 Mark III would also fit🤔

Hi Thomas! I’ve indeed been using mainly my Canon full frame recently. Using my PEN’s on the side as EDC’s, but not the M1 Mark III. Been meaning to shoot new video(s) forever and update a bit on my photography and gear choices atm. Hopefully coming soon :).

hi is the amount of detail acceptable from this camera photographs. How does it compare with a PEN camera with 16megapixels for detail ? For example strands of hair in a portrait photograph.

I think it's a nice buy for people like me who are looking for their first non Panasonic m43. It has some nice features. It doesn't have to be a ground breaking difference. I'd attach a 300 pro to it 😃 I use a 100-400 with a GX9. You just have to hold them differently.

    An 8 Megapixel camera produces a file size that is 2448 x 3264 PPI. The image dimensions are about 8″ x 11″ at maximum quality (2448/300 & 3264/300).Jun 21, 2023

good review. The one thing I would say, is I got it specifically because I did not want a camera with a viewfinder or bumps and bulges. When I am want all that, I use my Pentax K3-III. What I want for a a pocket camera is a truly pocketable ILC camera, with modern electronics The only thing I wish it had was USB C port instead of micro.

bought e-300 back in 2012 for $60 instantly fell in love with its colors, nice to see, I could sell it for like 3x the price (due to the hype), but the hell I won't! 😂 I used to hate its non-DSLR looks, but bow I love its quirky looks and hefty weight (use it with vintage manual long lenses primarily)

A bit quirky in use, but a very lovable lens. Extremely sharp, and always produces gorgeous images in general photography as well as macro distances. My only complaint is the AF shows its age, and it is not as perfect as newer designs. It can get confused in lower contrast situations compared to newer lenses. As a user would I recommend this lens? Heck yeah. Useful and lovable.

What's your opinion about using protective filters. Mr. Verhoef? Thanks! (i always use them because I can't afford to have the lenses damaged - they are expensive here in Brazil)

Just a note about using these lenses on Lumix cameras: 1) In case the autofocus doesn't work, check the clutch ring before returning it. 2) The manual focus using the clutch in the lens doesn't open the focus magnification - something that I particularly like. When setting the Lumix to autofocus the magnification gets enabled. Obs: all this based on the 17mm f1.8 I bought recently.

Of the overview in the beginning of the video, which camera is your favorite and why? I'm interested in getting a 4/3 and am new in the 4/3-world. After some SLR, digital compact, a few DSLR's (Pentax) and a mirrorless (Fuji X-T3) I went to phone (iPhone 13 Pro Max) and am getting the itch to get something that can change lenses and where I can use (AF) primes.

Why was all photos with the macro add so unsharp. most pictures were actually unsharp. I saw that you almost always used aperture 1,7 so the macro shots had a super short depht of field. With your shutter time 1/500 you could have dropped it to 1/125 and insted used a f-stop of 3,5 or 4 to get more of your subject in focus. Just my thoughts...

I am soon to celebrate my 20th anniversary with the wonderful camera. My first big girl digital purchase. I love the sunset colors, the sunrise colors, and the macros with the joyful 50mm f/2. When they became dirt cheap before the KZread hype hit, I purchased two basically new backups. Great video with lovely photos.

There is no E-P6; Olympus went from the E-P5 to the E-P7 (because of a connotation issue with how E-P6 is pronounced in some places, or so I read somewhere).

Are there any 27 or 35mm lenses compatible with it? I got it for a good price with the 14 to 42 on Amazon but have a feeling prime lens quality will be better long term so I’m looking for something not too wide but compact enough like pancakes

  • @bartjanverhoef
    @bartjanverhoefАй бұрын

Assuming you mean m43 equivalents of 27 or 35mm focal lenghts then yes, there are! There’s the Panasonic Leica Summilux 15mm f/1.7 and The Olympus 17mm f/1.8 that roughly cover those focal lenghts and both are outstandig - and seriously compact - prime lenses.

A very useful video, thank you. I'm thinking of buying one of these camers to replace a Panasonic GX7; one that can fit in my coat pocket for mainly ICM photography. Do you think this camera would be suitable for the ICM technique? Thanks in advance.

The camera not only lacks a viewfinder but it lacks the the socket required to fit one (the V-F4 for example). Shooting in sunny conditions is never practical using the screen. I think I'll stick to my old Oly PEN E-PL5 plus a V-F4 viewfinder.

I enjoyed this video. I don't care much about specs so much these days. One has to work hard to make a bad photo because modern cameras are so good. The feel of a camera has become more important for me👩🏼‍🦲because I am more likely to take it out with me. I may get🎉 one of these little gems for exactly that reason.

Thanks for your comparison. I’m an old Olympus fan going back to the late 1970’s. I wanted a used digital Pen body so I chose the E-P3 as it was the most affordable for me. I really love it, but sadly I discovered it suffers from the image stabilization failure of these cameras. It probably isn’t worth paying to have it fixed. So I’ll be in search of another body but will watch out for this.

A teleurstelling.

I bought one back in 2017. I have since got a Sony A7C in 2020 and a compact G5Xii. I use either the Sony ff or Pen F for hiking everywhere in Canada, and the compact Canon or sometimes Pen F for travel in and out of the country. I've thought about getting rid of the Pen F so many times but I can't get myself to do it. There is just something special about it that makes me feel good when I take it out and use it despite its being inferior to the ff in overall image quality. I know now that I will probably never let it go even if I move on to other cameras by replacing the Sony and Canon. I have the grip attached to mine and will be taking it with me again in a few days to Japan and the Phil.

If you're using Adobe to debayer your raw files, you're not getting the original Olympus/Kodak color science. Adobe does a great job but it makes every camera look sort of similar. Olympus has a horrible raw processor but you get the color science that everyone raves about.
