I have an EM1 Mk1 and EM10 Mk2, both bought used for a great price. I love the shape and hand feel of the EM1, but I travel a lot for work and the smaller EM10 was more compact to keep in my backpack when flying. So when I invested in a new camera, I bought the EM5 Mk3. Love it. I also recently bought the 12-100 F4 pro lens and I find with this combination I have a hard to define level of clarity to my photos that allows me to crop in much closer than I have in the past.

Especially with the new Denoise in Lightroom I feel like the em5 mark iii has been a very good decision. My pack is the 17mm 45mm both 1.8 and the cheap 75-300mm. It’s all I really need.

I have the same setup. My Em5 mkii with the 20mm is awesome. Love that lens and the compact nature for such a powerful camera. Taken it all over on my travels. Great video; thankyou. Ps. Is the lowe pro a cs35?

Really enjoyed the photos! Have been tempted by the OM5, but getting to be so many cameras coming out lately it makes a hard choice. I do think it’s priced too high in comparison to some others offering similar capabilities (often equal or more, except for its IBIS), so the MK3 would be a good alternative.

Hi I originally bought the black version of the EM5 mkiii back in 2021 at a bargain price. I really liked it but wished I had got the silver version. Earlier this year I saw a silver version for sale with the 12-45mm pro lens and I went ahead and purchased ( managed to sell my black version to fund the new purchase). I already had the 12-40mm pro lens but the 12-45 being considerably lighter suits the EM5 mkiii perfectly.

I’ve always been a fan of all the black editions but I’m leaning towards the silver version more too now! I tried a silver OM-5 last year and really liked that one. The 12-45mm indeed seems like a better fit for it, I always worry a bit about missing the extra light from an f/2.8 vs an f/4. (even though in many situation it obviously doesn’t really matter).

Thanks for revisiting this great little camera! I upgraded to this from the original E-M10 in 2020 and was not disappointed. I would have preferred a magnesium body though and should have bought the black instead of the silver. The silver just looks too much like cheap fake metal if you ask me. But that does not make it a bad camera at all! Currently it does not get much use from me, as I have an OM-1 and also an E-PM1 that I use much more, but I am not inclined to sell it anytime soon. If only the OM-5 had a metal body and USB-C…

Hi. I'm newbie to cameras, but basically after watching so so sooo many vids and reading so many sites... this camera has really grabbed my attention. I mostly plan to shoot, street photos, day to day stuff, landscape/ scenery, But would love to also be able to shoot the occasional street car races and bicycle racing events... can this camera do this? Can it capture these faster style images with ease on occasion? Thank you.

@@R.Es1 if you were planning for wildlife and birds, I would say get something like the OM1 with high burst rates but for occasional race and sports, 10 images per second and 1/8000 is plenty, especially for a beginner. The other limiting factor regarding speed is the autofocus of the lens. Most modern lenses are fine. Get it together in kit with a pro zoom and you are prepared for everything as it will also be weather sealed then. It is not missing any major features and given you are willing to learn, you will enjoy it for a long time. I would say if you feel drawn to it, go for it!

@sourcebased wooow . This is awesome. I greatly appreciate your input and advice. The lens specifications really are extremely helpful as it's all new to me and would've spent another month trying to figure all this out. I don't plan on doing much of any wildlife or bird shooting, honestly. I did also look into the OM1 , but it's a bit overkill for me, I feel. Plus, I am trying to keep it as small, light, and compact as possible, again because mostly 90% of the time I won't be shooting motorsports, but rather have 1 compact as possible camera + lens set up that is very capable of doing so when needed.

I’ve got a small Lowepro Hardside CS 60 case that holds the E-M5 mark iii, will jut fit the 20mm but nothing more attached to the camera, any other lens needs to come off the camera (I often brought that em5+20mm combo along with the 60mm macro and an extra battery in that case, could just fit all that in). As for a backpack, I’m quite fond of the ’Olympus Everyday Camera Backpack’, it fits quite a bit of gear and has a top pocket to carry some other stuff like food, clothes etc (I also use a Lowepro Flipside BP 300 AW III which is a very nice bag too, fits more gear, bit more protected for travel, but no space for other stuff).

Thanks Ben! Do you mean ‘best’ as in most advanced, or best as in favorite, or even something else? As for the first, that’s easy: neweer to older pretty much; E-M1 mark iii is the most advanced I have, then E-M5 mark iii, then PEN-F, and so on. But best for compact EDC or any other best would be a different order I guess:)

Hi, great video, thanks! Have you got any experience with it's older sibling om-d em5 mk ii and image quality? I'm faced with a conundrum whether to buy plasticky mkiii or older, but more sturdy mkii. I own pen epl- 7 and love it for it's metal body and faux leather finish. Is it worth sacrificing the finish for image quality of mkiii? Just to mention, I need my camera for travels and a cake photography 😊

  • @bartjanverhoef

Hi Martina, I don’t have the E-M5 mark ii myself. I do own both the E-M5 mark i and the mark iii, and obviously there is serious difference in performance between those. The Mark ii sits in between and from what I read, that one was quite a step forward from the orignal E-M5. If it’s just about image quality (instead of say, speed, video capabilities, etc), I wouldn’t see the need for the mark iii over the mark ii. The mark ii has some advantages over the mark iii as you mentioned, and I’m quite sure that for general purpose imagery it‘d be difficult to tell the difference between a photo taken with the mark ii or the mark iii.

This is a Lowepro Hardside CS 60. It does work very well for such a small kit! Good to note: with anything bigger than that 20mm pancake on the body it won’t close (Oly 17mm 1.8 for example is already too big). What does work is just the body in there and for example something like the 17mm 1.8 + the Pany 14mm next to each other where I have the 60mm in the video. I do think Lowepro has these series in multiple sizes too.

Never used such olympus cameras. thinking maybe to get one for bike riding instead of my Nikon DSLR. And I have a question about it: Does it work well with contactless lenses? Those cheap ones or adapted vintage lenses. I'm asking because Canon and Nikon DSLRs seriously limited when using such lenses, and I have to add a special chip to each lens, which is unconvinient and a bit expensive.

  • @bartjanverhoef

    @bartjanverhoef

    5 ай бұрын

You can use lenses with adapters, but in most cases it means it’s manual focus only as there is no communication between lens and camera (there’s a few expcetions with some (expensive) adapters). Also, because of the size of the sensor, most vintage lenses will give you a 2x cropfactor. So an old 50mm on a MFT body will give a 100mm equivalant field of view.
