    Yes. Repeating these is good. For a beginner like myself, I wouldn't use this for auditory learning, but rather to strengthen that important ability to "see the sounds" as one reads. It also helps you get a better sense of how sentences are constructed. We might miss some grammer lessons, but moving at this pace once in a while helps a beginer develop a better overview of how sentences are knitted together in Hebrew. And, as you say, it's a good opportunity to scoop up some vocabulary. Even at my rudimentary level, hearing the thoughts behind interpretation and the words we build that with provides some of that better understanding of scripture and how it is put together that we are all seeking.

    Is Tiberian pronounciation accurate?

  • @HebrewLiteracy
    @HebrewLiteracyКүн бұрын

    There's not really a thing "TIberian Pronunciation" it's the Tiberian system of diacritics. This system is pronounced differently by different traditions but we all are using the Tiberian diacritic markers. Hope that helps

    I am liking this more and more. The pace is good because it gives me time to think. I am surprised that I am starting to recognize some of the verbs before you verify them. Really, i can hardly believe that I am starting to comprehend. I don't have enough time to see all the lessons. I bought your book about a month ago, but have not found time yet to study it. I will try to hang in there though. Being able to understand some of this material is liberating, like a superpower.

    Thank you for your continued work here Rabbi. The LORD blessed me a bit today through my Hebrew learning despite and perhaps because of my early stage of learning. (What a pleasant surprise those things can be.) I really appreciate you taking the time to sneak in a few tidbits about the history of ancient languages and where Biblical Hebrew fits in. A Bill Gates funded study of math teacher outcomes found that the best math teachers tended to have Master's degrees in Math rather than education and knew far more math than their students needed in that moment. I guess these math teachers just had the pathways to understanding simplified and engrained somewhere in their bones. Thank you for sharing the fruits of the long devotion and fascination that G-d has blessed you with in this area, that we might learn something and hopefully catch a bit of your contagious fascination and joy. Please do keep listening to your instincts about what might be fascinating, worth learning and why all this seems to matter. Thank you again.

    Please do not go down to 20 minute sessions; 30 minutes of teaching and studying is enough to make a solid lesson in vocabulary and grammar but 20 minutes is not enough to warrant a study session. Thank you for your invaluable teaching lessons!

    Interesting that, in this piece of scripture, the breast plate of justice/righteousness is tied to invoking/preserving memory. Righteousness and justice protect us. In our times, the people who would join together to tear down righteousness are also often involved in tearing down their culture's history.

    1:31:03 verse references detestable = βδελυγμα βδελυγμα = (according to Thayer's Greek Lexicon) in Sept. mostly for תועבה This word is defined in Torah. Deut 14.3 food, Lev 18.22-30 prohibited relations, Deut 7.25-26 caution NOT to bring into the house, Deut 12.31 idolatry; 13.14 idolatry, 17.1 giving to Hashem what is imperfect, 17.4 worship sun moon etc, 18.9-12 divination, witchcraft, consulting the dead, soothsaying, etc. also maps to שקץ (lev 11.10,12,13,20,23,41,42) food פְּסִילֵי אֱלֹהֵיהֶם תִּשְׂרְפוּן בָּאֵשׁ לֹא־תַחְמֹד כֶּסֶף וְזָהָב עֲלֵיהֶם וְלָקַחְתָּ לָךְ פֶּן תִּוָּקֵשׁ בּוֹ כִּי תוֹעֲבַת יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ הוּא׃ וְלֹא־תָבִיא תוֹעֵבָה אֶל־בֵּיתֶךָ וְהָיִיתָ חֵרֶם כָּמֹהוּ שַׁקֵּץ תְּשַׁקְּצֶנּוּ וְתַעֵב תְּתַעֲבֶנּוּ כִּי־חֵרֶם הוּא׃ פ (דברים 7.25-26 1995MH) Our heart should be aligned with Him, what He says is תועבה so should we see it as so. I have just been learning a few weeks, but I believe the reason he changes his voice is to help you separate out the different “words” hiding inside a given group of Hebrew characters. Hebrew has this beautiful logic, where the core verb itself is almost always three characters long but they add a bunch of characters to bring in additional info. Primarily, these involve pronouns added to the end such as “she”, “they”, “I”, etc. (You'll also see syllables added to the front for other reasons.) He's using colors and changes in his voice to help us learn to "hear" this very different way of indicating pronouns: For example, in English we might use two words to say “I ran” or “They ran.” In Hebrew, they would simply add a syllable to the end of the original word “ran.” Hence, the English words “I ran” become “ran-tee” in Hebrew, or “they ran” might become “ra-noo.” The narrator changes his voice to emphasize those add-on portions and to help us distinguish the added-on part vs. the regular verb. It’s helpful to learn how to hear these patterns because these add-on sounds are the same across most regular verbs, and, once you learn to see them, it makes more sense how different groups of characters are spelled.
