Welcome to Darren's R/C Videos.
On my channel you can find all types of R/C from Planes & Helicopters to R/C Cars & Crawlers, Boats and even Construction vehicles, R/C 1/16 scale Tanks, Plastic scale kit building & Balsa builds & much much more.
I have been a keen model maker since 1980 with Airfix plastic kits and then mid 80's got into R/C cars with my first being a Marui CJ7 Golden Eagle Jeep & also at a similar time rubber powered free flight planes and free flight gliders.
Then in the early 90's i got interested in flying R/C planes & gliders. I've built and flown all types of planes & gliders over the years with all types of power from glow & diesel engines to C02 and now the more modern electric models.
I started this channel back in 2017 with the help of my good friend Roger so we could film our planes & cars and share it via KZread for all to see.
Thanks for watching and please if not already done so can you "like & "subscribe" to the channel.
Thanks Darren.

Very nice filming Darren I bet you cursed to yourself just as the Lancaster landed 😂
😂😂😂Yeah not much i could do about it, I think i tried to change the angle but no good, lol
Sunday turned out to be a cracking afternoon Good work all involved in a tricky weekend
@@3DJunkie yes it really was, lovely weekend with Sunday being the best day with some amazing planes and flying.
This was today and I was not thete
@@MikeUren this is very true Mike, So you went home yesterday with Richard.
Good video Darren. Great scale camera work. Hope your channel continues to go from strength to strength.
@@tonys_workshop Thank you Tony, That means a lot coming from you. Thanks.
Lovely im tempted by one of thise
Thanks, They really are great to have and run around, Full r/c and ready to run with decent sound system and a smoke system. You won't regret getting one. Thanks for your comments and taking the time to visit my channel.
Good luck with your build. I built one of these 35 years ago. I think it used printed wood for the ribs and shaped parts. I have a photo of it along with the original plan somewhere. I had no idea how to trim or fly it, but I think I got a few short flights before i overwound the rubber motor and busted the fuselage. Hopefully seeing yours fly will inspire me to have another go!
Thank you for your comments, Glad you like it and it flew lovely. The maiden flight video is on this channel. Thanks.
Great video looks well worth doing thank you for sharing cheers
Thanks, glad you liked it.
How did you get the Construction Doll into the cab? Thanks very much for your valuable time.
Hello, when i took it all apart you can take the clear cab off and i added the figure in and glued in place before putting the cab and loader back together. Thanks.
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Glad you like it.
awesome! thats a beautiful place 🤩great RC POV view
Thank you, Glad you like it.
I had made my own mast & forks but they where to heavy for the loader being 13 inches long I wanted to lift cars long ways but steering sucks, even the upgrade is to slow, I want to mock up a servo, start with 25kg will do 100kg if that's not fast enough
Super vidéo 📼 😊
Thank you, glad you like it.
Brasil 🚜👍
I heard you mention. You upgraded the gears on the loader. Do you have a link to where you bought the gears from? I have the same Huina loader. I also want to upgrade it. I was thinking of upgading the electronics as well. Any ideas? I've seen a video of someone modifying their Huina with a 3S brush ESC. But, it looks very involved. I'm not that mechanicly inclined . A motor upgade would be nice. Any suggestions?
Thanks for watching my video, if you look back in my list of videos you will see a video where i show putting the upgraded gearboxes on it as well as a few other items, to take out all the electrics and replace with a better ESC is very technical & yes it's extremely involved to get it right and something you would have to spend a lot of time getting right, here is a link for the gearbox upgrades & you need two of them, the rest of the upgrades can all be found on the same website by typing in 1583 or 583, Gearbox link, magomhrc.com/en/huina-583-hydraulic-conversion/1697-huina-583-traction-kit.html
@@Darren-RC-videos Thank you. It is much appreciated.
I think I prefer that boats to the railways but all fantastic models 👍
Some quality models Darren 👍🙂
The ones built into the wood frames at 2 minutes in and the blue model in the thumbnail are all scratch build using plastic card. Some amazing detail in them all.
Never seen portable model railways before 👍
Yes they are something else to see, i fancy having a go my self one day.
Looks fantastic! That orange really sets it off!
Thanks
I had Ajax as a kid my grandad built me I loved it best flyer ever
Great memory's, Yes it flys great.
Magnificent. I like it so much. Have a blessed time. Greetings ~ Milan
Thank you for your comments.
Very good sharing. Bravo! Have a nice time. Greetings ~ Milan
Thanks. Glad you like it.
WOW 🛩
Thanks.
Really cool 👍
Thank you.
Oh the nostalgia love it 😊
Yes super fun, Thanks.
Wow...she really flies great. Well done
Thank you.
Great summing up there Darren, what do you think you're going to build next then?
Thanks Cliff, Well i got a few things i could start on, I do have an old KK eaglet and a senator but they are old kits, i do have a j3 cub kit that i got last year, Might start in that? I love cubs, Apart from gliders they are my most favorite of planes to build and fly. Can't beat a good piper cub.
Brilliant! 🙂
Thank you.
Oooh, that's nice. A bit of aeromodelling like wot it used to be. Your Ajax looks as good in the air as it does on the bench! Now, put the kettle on, lads: grab a nice cuppa, then go looking for thermals over the teapot. 🤭
haha, Thermals over the tea pot,lol
Maiden flight video up in 30mins 👍
Another great afternoon flying Darren 🙂👍
Yes Cliff, Great afternoon.
Maiden flight video up in 30mins 👍
I love the smell of fresh laser cut wood.
Very nice job. What's the final weight? I used to find that lubricating the rubber was a great way to get the best out of it. Putting on the turns can definitely be pretty scary! When I flew big outdoor duration models the rubber was stretched out seven or eight feet from the nose before being cranked many hundreds of turns. The stored-up power was incredible. Back in the fuselage it was enclosed in a separate reinforced tube that was there to prevent it from smashing the plane to bits as it unwound. I'm sure your lovely Ajax will have no such problems. Good luck!
Thanks, it's 3oz, or 86grams
Looking good, awaiting test flights!
Thanks.
At freehand painting down looks really excellent I thought you were going to say you spend a while masking it all off! I kept my undercarriage in on the Ajax by bending The Wire into a slight s shape on each wire. Have you lubricated the motor, you'll get a lot more turns on it?
I lied a little there about the painting, lol 😁 I did mask off the fuselage to do the line down each side but the rest is all free hand. I did in fact bend the ends of the wire to hold it in but did not help so got a drop of super glue on each side just to hold in place.
Nice build.
Thanks.
Ah the smell of dope in the morning!
Thanks, Yes its a strong smell.
You can also repositian the tissue with a little isopropyl alcohol, and I mix water and isopropyl to shrink the tissue
Thanks for the comments, Glad you like the video.
I sometimes thin down cellulose glue with laqqer thinner and use to attach the esaki or domestic tissue...I have used the uhu glue stick which is a superior bond ...then use krylon crystal clear spay to seal the tissue... tutorial at easy built models...give it a look see..great to see modelers share their projects...❤
Thanks for stopping by to watched, Yes i've used uhu glues too, They are all very good.
Great progress Darren but a few observations if I may, if you use a blue glue stick you can see if there's any areas you've missed without having to put on more than you need, it dries clear by the way. Personally I would use a bigger piece of tissue per panel, it just makes it easier to handle. You don't need to go over the glued areas with dope, it won't unstick also, unlike the undercamber on the underneath of the wing, you don't want to glue the tissue to every rib because each small area of tissue won't stretch as much, or as evenly, as one large area. Another great tip I picked up is to cover the wing tip panel separately, this way you won't have any wrinkles to contend with. One last thing, I would mist it with water, it gives the dope less work to do. Hope this helps for future builds 👍🙂
Hi cliff, did not know there was a blue glue stick available. I never use to bother with misting with water back in the day when I was making these. It's all had one thinned down coat of dope and is looking very nice now.
Hello, Darren! Ah, wonderful Keil Kraft. Happy days. I remember adding banana-oil to thinned [cellulose] dope, which gave a useful amount of toughness and elasticity to the tissue covering. I look forward to seeing your test flights.🙂 I don't have anywhere local to do any indoor flying [I'm based in West Yorkshire], so I'm more of an outdoor gal. If you're tempted to venture outside with your Ajax, please watch out for rogue thermals if the model's not using a dethermaliser on every flight. I've lost more than one plane over the years, and it really hurts because it's usually your best ones that disappear vertically! I started fitting ultra-lightweight RC gear to my 'free-flight' models a couple of years ago, and it's grand being able to interrupt them occasionally and then guide them (almost) home. You still get to do all the usual free-flight fiddling and power-on, power-off trimming with shims and whatnot, but with the bonus of not losing your beloved creations. I use either rudder only, or rudder and elevator in the bigger models. Great fun, and it's a part of the hobby that the CAA hasn't destroyed yet. Yet...😞
Hi, Thanks for your comments. No shes going to be an indoor only flyer as no intention of taking outdoors, I got my bigger r/c planes for the outdoors flying, I'm just in the middle of putting the tissue on then it's on with some thinned down dope. Should be ready by weekend.
Uber geil
Thanks.
Ah this looks great! Well done on the build and a great video
Glad you like it, Thanks.
I can bring suitable thinners next Sunday!
Thanks but got some now, Thank you.
Cliff beat me to it..... thin the dope with at least 50% thinners. Pin down the wing/tail/fin whilst the dope dries and then do a second coat.
Will do, thanks.
Great to watch and informative. Just building a Gullowes spitfire. First one since I was a child😊
Thank you Brian. The gullowes kits are lovely. Good luck with it, Darren.
Looking forward to seeing this one flying Darren, I would definately thin the dope by the way, full strength could be too much shrinkage
Thanks Cilff, only ever put it on straight from the tin before with a brush. What would you recommend to thin it down with.
I remember using watered down white glue for dope on tissue paper . And drying it over a kitchen bread toaster to make it tight .
I did use white glue as well, but not the toaster, lol
Heck..I built one of these in the early 50s...ended up hanging on a power line 🤣🤣
I hope that don't happen to mine, lol But i only intend to fly it indoors.
Looking forward to seeing your build
Thanks, working on it at the moment
