    Thanks, jasn, this is very much appreciated! KZread changed things up again recently and I was just thinking this is really not worth doing anymore, but you reminded me why I make videos - to help people. Now if people could just be SHOWN the videos, that would be nice. I suspect you found me through a search for Vision reviews. Thanks for persisting through all the videos the algorithm favors to find me, and for letting me know it was helpful!!

    No, Stormzbowler, I'm sorry. Once there was a time when I made files available but it was just too much for me to keep up with, so I stopped. I'm glad you like it though! My goal is to teach you everything you need to recreate my projects or to design your own unique version. I had very little 3d design experience when I made these, it's really mostly about drawing the 2d designs for the front and the dials, and I have dozens of videos about how to do that. Start with something easier, like a 3d token, and work your way up to the tracker. I promise you'll get incredible satisfaction from making something you designed yourself!

    Ryder, I always make my drawing only slightly bigger than the item size. For tokens I would use something like 2 inches by 2 inches. Only one item per layer, centered. Good luck, and have fun!

    I jist ordered the WeCreat and i am super nervous afrer reading the lack of support if something goes wrong. This is a costly machine for no support.

  • @GreylightMay
    @GreylightMayАй бұрын

    I agree, so far support is the only negative I've found. It exists, but it's all online and it comes from China, so there is a built in time lag. I'm hoping this will improve soon, but I have no inside contacts, so I don't know what the company's plans are. The good news is it's a well made product, so the need for support should be less. There is also a sizable community of owners already, and there are a lot of talented and helpful people in the group, so short of needing to replace hardware, which only WeCreat can do, you can get advice and information from the user community. But your point remains a good one: for the price you've paid, you have a right to expect support!

    You will have so much fun! The Vision is the easiest laser cutter I've ever used, and you will really enjoy it. To head off the only potential issue I've had, watch this video of mine kzread.info/dash/bejne/g6SGpJuoide9ldY.htmlfeature=shared at about 8:50 in. It is possible the air assist hose is rubbing back and forth along a sharp metal edge when the machine is in use. The video shows my simple solution, which is to wrap the edge with a piece of adhesive backed felt strip. This has worked well for me, and protects the hose from getting cut. Hopefully, WeCreat has addressed this, but just in case!!

    Don't know what it is but I find it a real treat when someone actually pronounces speed in millimeters per second and power in percentage. Also, this machine is actually doing bidirectional raster engraving? Sure appears in several KZread videos the beam is only on in one direction.

  • @GreylightMay
    @GreylightMayАй бұрын

    No, Lance, it is currently only one direction. I may have been misleading with my back and forth hand motion because I'm so used to using Lightburn bidirectional. I'm hoping WeCreat steps up to bidirectional, they are making lots of improvements, fast, and that is quite important for efficiency.

    Finding it interesting how similar their software UI is to Cricut Design Space as if the same folks developed both. Also, wondering how well this can engrave and cut 1/16" leather for baseball cap embellishments?

  • @GreylightMay
    @GreylightMayАй бұрын

    I haven't done leather yet, Lance, but my experience so far would lead me to believe that this is a great leather machine. It should easily cut that thickness, and more cleanly than I get on my OmTech. I will have to put leather on my project list! The ventilation on my 80watt CO2 laser is so powerful it is difficult to keep the leather in place. I made special magnetic clamps for that, but they don't work on the knife bed in the Vision, so I'll have to come up with a different clamping strategy. I've found that anything that fits in the WeCreat bed, I prefer to do there. So much of what I do is small, the OmTech is getting lonely!

  • @edd77777
    @edd77777Ай бұрын

    One thing the manufacturer (and KZread reviewers) do not mention is that this machine's auto-focus feature will not work properly on a curved surface. Your lased item must be flat, unless you're in the rotary setup.

  • @GreylightMay
    @GreylightMayАй бұрын

    edd, I haven't had this particular issue but I have provided my own feedback that they need to add a manual option. There have been a couple of situations where I really needed the ability to position the place where the focus laser hits. I can also think of instances in the past where I've adjusted the height based on the type and thickness of material. A curved surface is another good example. An advanced user needs more flexibility.

    Enjoyed tge video and got a lot out of it (I use Corel Draw so trying to see if I can use what you show and incorperate it into Corel). One thing that stood out I agree 100%, "...I would follow the instructions...because the person is so experienced, the skip over steps". Well at the 4 minute 12 second time line you say "Now the idead for this next part..." and you have something drawn out and have what you call "swatches" but never say how to create them(?). Continued watching but I guess my skill level needs much improving cause all I heard was "Blah Blah Blah". You definitly have the knowlege I just couldn't grasp it.

  • @GreylightMay
    @GreylightMay2 ай бұрын

    Drurigney, a swatch traditionally is a small square of fabric cut from a bolt of cloth that acts as a sample. THESE squares are samples of strokes that are used repeatedly in the mandala. A little later in the video you see how they are used because the eyedropper picks up the properties of a swatch and applies them to the active path you are drawing. The squares/swatches start out with two obvious properties: a color and a thickness. Different colors and thicknesses are used for each layer. I show adding the third property, which is how the stroke is aligned with the path: centered, on the inside and on the outside. Which of these you will use is based on the shape and the effect you want. The advantage of this setup is when you use a shape tool to draw a path it will start with a default color, thickness and alignment. While it is selected you can use the eyedropper to set the appropriate color and thickness for the layer and your preferred alignment with one click. It is a real productivity tool.

  • @zk_6312
    @zk_63122 ай бұрын

    @@GreylightMay Both x and y were both off by 1mm. Other than that, they appeared to be equal. I used a 100mm circle and the circle was about 99mm, maybe a little less. Kind of hard to measure a circle though. Might have to ingrave a horizontal and vertical line to be more precise.

  • @GreylightMay
    @GreylightMay2 ай бұрын

    Yes, that is odd because you would think that if you did a square and it was accurate, a circle engraved inside the square would be accurate as well. I would try cutting a square and vector engraving a circle with the same x/y dimensions and a shared center point. If the circle is smaller then I would ask the laser cutter's manufacturer why, because it wouldn't seem to be a calibration problem at that point. Very mysterious!

  • @GreylightMay

    Excellent question! I should have. They don't actually spin, if they did they wouldn't hold the number. They turn easily, but if the magnet is inset far enough (which it was), the wood touches and there is enough friction to hold the number in place. I definitely should have demonstrated that!

  • @GreylightMay
    @GreylightMay3 ай бұрын

    Fabalass, if you can get a clear photo of the house, without trees, it will always have perspective because that is what an eye or camera lens sees. The problem in this picture is the trees obscuring the roofline. I had to use the bits I could see and my knowledge of how the roofline would angle in with perspective to draw in the missing parts. This is really the 'art' part of the project, and it doesn't need to be perfect to look good. Without the problem of the trees, you could just trace a front photo of any house and the perspective view would be built in.

    I have other equipment too, but I always gravitate to the laser cutter for the reasons you describe. It is truly addictive. Have fun! I'd love to see a picture of something you make for your classes!! Sometime, when you make something you really love, snap a picture and send it to me at [email protected]. It would really make my day!!

    Thank you! I've been 3D printing for 8 months and decided to try and make an enclosure for a computer part and I was looking for some simple software to construct a box with a few holes in the correct position. I downloaded FreeCAD and encountered the most user-unfriendly interface I've ever seen (however the last time I used CAD software was on the Amiga in the 80s and 90s). Your guide to Blender is perfect. :)

    My primary purpose for considering a laser cutter is to make a single step cut and seal using polyester fabric - I make patches and I currently manually cut my fabric with scissors or a home cutting machine and then I have to run an open flame on the edge to seal the fabric to keep it from unraveling. A laser will complete this in one step. But, I need to cut white fabric. A twill type fabric for example - Will this machine cut a white fabric? and if not, what if a press a black interfacing onto the white - will it then cut?

    Ramona, my understanding is that it should have no problem with white fabric, especially if it has a matte finish. White wood, for example, works fine. It seems to be acrylic that is the real problem for the blue laser. A reflective material sometimes interferes with the autofocus, I hear, so a shiny white fabric might have some issues there. I myself haven't tested fabric on this laser yet, but I've been impressed with how clean the cuts are, with little to no smoke marks. That would be important for patches. I would send an email to the WeCreat support address to ask this question specifically. I'm sure they've tested most materials.

    Lady Greylight May, we purchased the Unit with the Fume extractor-thinking I didn't need the level of skill as I see you have MASTERED-such a great teacher-thank you for this review. I just subscribed to your channel. We had hoped to light it up and go, but instead Found the Laser unit defective. Tech support had me pull the laser module. They have sent me a new one. No instructions how to install nor what the unique pieces were in the replacement box. I think WeCreat wants to be a helpful but it is only by email and with the time difference in China, I don't commonly see email responses until the middle of the night-MST. They are very kind and want to help. They just don't have all the needed how to do this & that for us the users. I need to install this laser module, and found NO ONE has any instructions on how that can be done, what the parts that came with the replacement laser are for as well as how to attach the hose in the tiny space from where it was detached. My request is Can you do a lesson on that...WeCreat has a posted a module "How remove the Laser Engraver" It doesn't function well to just do that step by step to install the replacement.

    Oh no! I'm so sorry you are having this problem. As just one of the over 70 different KZread content creators they sent machines to, I don't have a way to contact them other than their online support page, but I will try to help. Did they send you any documentation for how to install the new unit? Here is my email: [email protected] As I said in my video, I'm not a techie, but I can act as a second pair of eyes. Let's take this conversation to email, and see if we can get your machine up and running! Update: I just sent an email to support asking for information and the replacement module they sent you so I have something to work with. Hopefully they will be responsive!

    @@GreylightMay thank you for the reply, No-absolutely nothing in writing came with the replacement Laser unit module...it was beautifully packed but no instructions. Studying the machine, I see where the angle bracket which was in the box is mounted in the far left of the Rail which holds the Laser Module. That piece had no part in the removal of the laser...so didn't think it was a part in the laser install. My install of the laser had the plug-in/play connection which runs with the length of the rail as the laser moves-doing it's job. That cable [that's what I call it, but it is not identified in any of the manual's info] was originally secured by some heavy duty black tape like band aid tape, which I had to remove when taking out the original defective laser unit. Now that connection has to be plugged back into the new Laser Module, I don't know that its as it should be, I got no direction [though I have reached out to the team for help-just no reply yet]. Has anyone gotten a break through in resolving the problems I am having? The thus far, as I have installed it, laser won't even project a red beam. HELP! If anyone can give me assistance, I want this WeCreat unit [which I purchased 2/10/24 and has yet to be able to make a project like I see everyone else is doing-so envious!]

    Colorado, I think if I were in your position I would tell them you want to return the laser cutter for a full refund. Maybe that will get their attention and you will get the support you need. If not, you will have your money back and you can choose whether or not you want to order another one. I have just checked my email, and they have not responded to me yet. Getting support from China is very problematic, as you said, for time zone reasons - always day long delays. Could you send the link to what they have posted about how to remove the laser module? I haven't been able to locate that. My understanding is that you did that in reverse and it doesn't work. Perhaps the problem is more than just the module itself, which is why returning it may be the right answer. You should not be expected to be able to repair your machine!

    Hi Colorado! I got a response back from WeCret with the link to "how to replace the laser module" support.wecreat.com/hc/en-us/articles/9124065920015-How-to-Replace-the-Laser-Module I think this is what you did to remove yours, and you did these steps in reverse to put the new one in? And not even the red laser pointer works? They say they are planning to make a video, but no promise of when that might be.
