    I'm 20M and from India. This is my first bike, and I'm picking it up in a day or two. I can't wait! Here, the bike cost around ₹254,596 + ₹50,000 for insurance and registration. (That's about 4600 AUD + 900 AUD).

    I'm surprised that the sump guard doesn't cover the Oil filter, on the 900 scrambler it covers it full.

    Nice! You’re my height and you tamed the beast. I recently got back into riding and was a bit intimidated by the 1200XE seat height, so I went with the Speed Twin 900. Probably going to keep the twin forever, but I have my eyes on a scrambler for sure. I ride for the same reasons as you ; thanks for sharing all of this context and your stories. Happy riding!

    Loved the series! Do you think the 1200 is okay for a first bike? I'm quite tall, 6ft 5in (American, sorry 😅) and like the seat height of XE. I don't find a lot of bikes that I like that fit me. I've always been obsessed with the T120s and Scramblers. I don't plan on doing the type of off-roading that you do, so I'm curious if a newbie could handle this thing just fine.

  • @lifeofascrambler

    Great question - I would say if you’re not confident it’s probably a bit much for a beginner, BUT the scrambler 400X is actually a bit bigger than the T100/120’s so maybe take one for a test ride if you can?

    For the rear shock before you take the measurement you need to lift the bike up off the ground. Then lower back to ground, sit on it and then do your 1/3 preload. You don't take the first measurement with the bike weight compressing the spring.

    Hey mate just stumbled across your channel. I'm hoping to get a 1200xe sooner or later. Just curious as to what your fuel range is and do you carry extra fuel? I'm thinking if I run a single rack on the left I could put a rotopax there.

  • @lifeofascrambler
    @lifeofascramblerАй бұрын

    Glad you stumbled here 🤗 fuel range varies a lot depending on the type of riding. On a highway I get 230km+ (haven’t pushed past that, maybe could push for 250~km maybe in good conditions. Off-road is generally less but I’ve never run out of fuel, I’ve always been able to get to a fuel station. Rotopax are a good range extender I’ve had a few mates use them on other bikes across the desert. What sort of trips are you planning?!

    @@lifeofascrambler I'm currently riding a honda cb500x which can get 450km to a tank if I baby it (its great bike but it's lacking that excitement factor). Im in northern rivers NSW so up and down the Gibraltar range, a few camps, I'd like to ride to Phillip Island for the gp and also go north to Cape York eventually.

    The annoying feature of all those camera slow pans and elevation shots and highly disciplined colour grade along with evocative beats is it makes what is a semi luxury consumer good appear within the luxury range. This is maybe be why house holds debt is so high, but hey, I won't regret buying this bike once I ride it.

    I find the T7 top heavier than the scrambler to push around, get on and off etc. No doubts youve lifted both, which did you find easier? Im a solo rider and at times my crf250l is a pig to lift in a ditch or wet clay, etc.

    I think my mate had a similar frame issue on a street cup. And also something to do with the spark plug seating. Its funny but whenever i bring up these issues at a dealership its the first time theyve heard of it! Ive been looking at tiger 900'S and each and every one of them after a few miles look awful regarding corrosion and poor build quality. Which brings me to my point, i was hoping that the new tenere explore would make it more manageable for me off road but its still tall and top heavy hence why ive been looking at the XC or possibly one of the Caballero's.

    On the front forks there is a place to adjust with a screwdriver, there is also a nut you can adjust with a socket. What does the nut adjust ?

  • @lifeofascrambler
    @lifeofascrambler2 ай бұрын

    Good pickup! Working on an update to this video, but the nut does apparently adjust preload, but it’s only covered in some workshop manuals (post 2022 I think) so it’s unclear if that’s across all year models or not. Best bet is to mark where it is, and try turning it to see how it affects your suspension. Try putting a zip tie around the fork lower, compress the shocks and it should slide down and stay in place. Then turn the nut and compress them again - if they push it down further you’re reducing preload, if it stays put then you’re likely increasing preload!

    I had that leg saver in the middle between the heat shield installed on my 2019 XC, but it is no longer necessary on my 2022 XE… I got the 900 and 400 also and the heat is part of the high pipe Scramblers (well not the 400 here since they knowingly put a low exhaust on to avoid the issue)… anyway the high exhaust is a styling exercise… I fully bought the bikes knowing about the heat from the high pipes on the right side and you can feel the heat from the cylinders on the other side… really a non issue for me anymore…

    Great sound and amazing bike! Do you know if a pillion can ride without a lot of heat from the slash cut? Also for the newer models the cat is in the rear and gets removed if you these pipes on, leaving only the baffles to reduce sound. Any advice on how to lower the db's for a straight pipe? Does packing/wrapping actually lower the soubd much for example? Thanks for all the great content!

  • @lifeofascrambler
    @lifeofascrambler2 ай бұрын

    I would say the bike becomes a single seater when you do the slash cut exhaust mod 🤗 unless you put an extra shield on for the pillion. Regarding sound, I’ve got another video on exhausts so check that out for more info.

That would be a much more dynamic, easier to produce route visualisation if they offered that feature. I'd pay for it and I'm sure others would also.
