Hi beautiful tank ! I recently moved my 2 HOB’s To the sides of my 125 and the flow is amazing almost like wave makers… Then I moved my bubblers to the sides underneath the HOB’s and got even stronger flow! The cichlids love it!

Use only a wavemaker or wavemakers. Then you don’t have micro bubbles or any bubbles.

So learning from my own mistake doing this same exact thing and I only have my red devil left because it killed all my other cichlids as soon as they get to a similar size as the rest of your cichlids

You need to add couple of wave-maker and coral rock , Texas honey rock . Micro bubbles normal if you use HOB filter .

Love those black widows.....Raising 4 now with Mobas. What do you think about adding viejas? Since the Red Devil is pretty aggressive too

That's not correct. American cichlids do change shades of colours when threatened or feel aggression. Or you can easily tell by seeing their behaviour if they are getting beaten up. They shrink their fins, they might sit at a corner and not come out. I think american cichlids are very much and more predictable and communicative fishes than other cichlids. Even identifying the tank boss is easier for american cichlids(though all are bosses after a long time together).

What a bad ass tank you have going on there. Setting up my first 6 foot African right now and trying to figure out what I’m going to stock. I have a feeling mine is going to look a lot like yours maybe not quite as nice but will try and get it there. That really deep blue Malawi eye biter is right there at the top of my list of ones to get. What a beaut.

I have a Jack Dempsey with my 1 Mbuna, 2 Peacocks, and I just added an Albino Eye Biter who is far smaller than the rest. They've nipped and chased him for a bit but he has no ripped fins or markings. It's Day 2 now, Think he'll be ok?

I’m getting a 8-9inch mara rocks sulfur head hap tomorrow! Yours looks great. My local fish guy has them on sale for $40. He does also have sulfur head peacocks, not sure the difference. Maybe haps just get bigger. I’ll ask and update tomorrow

Americans definitely change color depending on health and hierarchy. Texas usually looks pretty much the same, basically all other I have change color dramatically. Oscar's, dempseys, green terrors to name some common ones.

I have also had mixed tank of peacocks, mbunas and haps. Never had issues, haps never attacked mbunas. Mbunas were aggressive and quarellsome. By the way o have eyebiter, livingstonii, christyi, lepturus, rostratus with hell lot of small mbunas.

It will working fine in my experience when u have a bigger assertive but not aggressive american cichlid, eg red parrot as a tank boss, some fast moving grazers who just does nt about the hierarchy then a bunch of african with vast contrast in patterns and colours.
