Bocchi reminded me what it was like to be a highschooler who wants to be a musician. The excitement of your first show, seeing all these strange older people that seem super cool. Figuring out how to play music together. This show nails it. I can tell the author loves music

"They'd make them play bass" - absolutely my experience 😂 I was never a rock musician - i played classical music growing up. Joined a fraternity in college and they needed a bassist for a party and they decided to throw a bass in my hands and showed me what notes to play. Literally my only experience with band-related instruments outside of listening to music and watching performances.

I know background art in anime is exactly that and often nothing more, but it's still so weird to see an anime that looks like it was shot in front of a green screen.

Yeah it drives me crazy. It’s some texture thing they threw on the backgrounds but some scenes it’s on a lot of or everything on the background so it looks super flat and like a bad green screen.

People really need to watch Beck, that anime hit different and actually captured how tough it is to learn guitar. It's not the same vibe as Bocchi though, it's a lot more melancholic abd the romantic drama is frustrating (but well written).

It's based on a novel, also called Solo Leveling, which was adapted into a Webtoon/Manhwa whatever term you're familiar with, and now it's an anime! I've read both the novel and the manhwa and it is a very cool concept, with an interesting plot and- yes- we get character development. It's a lot of "main character tries to survive while being forced to progress" at the beginning but it develops in ways you wouldn't expect don't worry. Also, this form of world building is more popular than you'd think! You just rarely find it in anime, it's mostly found in Manhwa

  • @kasanime

Yeah like the name suggests it mostly will focus on the MC. Side characters like the S ranks do feel lackluster especially after jeju tho. And yeah like most "shonen" manhwas has these game dungeons, weak to OP MC themes. Its like how Japanese mangas are filled with too much isekai. Its like their own speciality

Mongolian Chop Squad seemed to be a good anime to get musicians right, like really, really, awe-inspiring. I dunno how I feel about this hyperbole of BTR being the only one. as someone else said, Kids on the Slope is plenty amazing. I don't think you've watched a lot of music anime. Bocchi The Rock is a fantastic show, but it's a prime target for being overrated when rating it reasonably doesn't stop it from being as great as it is. sad good shows are either severely underrated, Mongolian Chop Squad and Kids on the Slope, even Carole and Tuesday (more so unpopular than underrated, the former examples of underrated too; too unpopular to even be rated properly), or unnecessarily overrated, like Bocchi the Rock. it pretty much immediately blew up, but, one of my pet peeves, you still see people acting like it's underrated for some odd reason.

The manga-ka of Bocchi the Rock is very good friends with a Japanese guitarist with the Internet handle of Instant. He's the one (well one of the ones) who gives Aki Hamaji most of her band-forming and band-life related ideas. Also there are videos on KZread that feature the voices of the two of them as they watch episodes of the Bocchi the Rock anime together on Aki Hamaji's channel.

I am in a small time entertainment industry and this is the most accurate depiction of a band irregardless of the type of music they play. However, from my experience, it is usually the vocalists that has the bocchi-like behaviour. They may have sang really well when they are at home with their own controlled setup and posting their vocal talents online but when you gave them dynamic mic and had to sing in front of a live crowd, they either choked or they show some mind numbingly terrible mic skills (mic either too far or too close to the mouth). Usually the keyboardist are the most reliable MVPs of the bunch, always covering for any of the band members screw ups.

I watched some of your covers, they're good, keep it up! As for finding members, that's always a really hard part. Being a drummer, especially a metal drummer, if you can play to a metronome live you will immediately set yourself apart. I have no idea where things are currently in the local band landscape now, but most bands when I was doing the band thing will get to the point where they will need you to play to a click for backing tracks because it can just add so much to a live show. If you can, if you put out ads anywhere, definitely include that because it becomes a necessity. I think just getting your name out there and getting to know other musicians is what will lead to it eventually. Keep making covers and getting better but also try and just meet other musicians, regardless of what style or instrument they play. You never know who might have a friend looking to be in the same kind of band. Go to local shows, play at a church, do sessions in a studio for someone looking for a drummer, etc. Could lead to you meeting people but also just getting that real experience performing live or recording will be huge and other musicians can see that experience even if they've never drummed.

@@kasanime > Being a drummer, especially a metal drummer, if you can play->>>> yeahh definitely, i have gotten a bit lucky, ive been able to play live with my brothers band once and i also recorded the durms for his album and that has been really fun and has helped me grow alot! live was so amazing and honestly? im still very proud of how i played live hehe. its a bit arrogant to talk about i think but just there were 4 other bands there and all of them came up to me saying they were amazed it was my first time live and it made me really smile to hear that lmao, compliments like that just stay in your brain forever i suppose :> to record that album i've had to learn how to drum to a click! and to play live and write the songs we've played together in the practice room alot so i've been able to learn alot apart from just being a bedroom drummer! thank you btw! i really appreciate you watched something and this comment aswell :> but yeah the biggest problem hasnt been being denied in bands but literally just not really finding anything i suppose i did find a couple guitarists but most either or only played for a year while i have been playing for 7 so our goals just didnt match up or they have been completely different styles, which is also fun but it was a bit too different from what i wanted to write so it just didnt work out buuut luckely enough actually literally the day i left that comment i found a guitarist AND a bassist who've been playing for a while and like what i do and we are gonna meet up soon!!!! so im really excited for that!! i hope it leads to something i just really want to play live again man.. playing live was so amazing and that energy that it gave me was honestly unlike anything i've ever experienced and i want to make more music to play live aswell
