    Maintenance is key. Fix the oil leaks, fix coolant leaks, do a tune up when necessary, change fluids when you're supposed to, and be sure to change the timing belt when it's due so the engine doesn't blow. I have videos of all this on the channel fixing mine up...

    Torques: Crankshaft bolt: 180-190Nm Tensioner pulley: 42-55Nm Timing idler pulley: 50-60Nm Hydraulic tensioner pin should protrude 3.8-4.5 mm. Cam locking tool and tensioner pulley wrench make this job easier. And double check your work by rotating crank by hand you should perfectly land the timing marks every two revolutions.

  • @92kbuilds-mn2lk

    Only potential problem with that is they have been using the 6g72 engine code since the 80's, and there have been many different versions and variants along the way with different components and torque specs and such and different internals as well like SOHC vs DOHC. They have also been mounted in a ton of different orientations- same way in the Galant I think as in the Eclipse, but backwards in the 3000GT & Stealth, and longitudinally mounted in the SUV's. The different mounting position puts some of the accessories in different spots, and I think different years and applications even had different firing orders and distributors. They may have added tensioners, moved tensioners, and removed tensioners. Many other parts along the way changed as well I'm sure. Easy to get confused and mix things up if you don't know what you're doing. So great tip, but you have to be careful unless the manual shows and clearly states the differences along the way for all models.

    Yeah I thought that in-car clip helped show kinda what it felt like for lack of better words. It rips pretty good for only 210hp- the GTS intake, cams, tune, higher compression (and premium fuel) add the extra 10hp over the GT model, and shift the powerband closer to redline. Combine that with the shorter GTS gear ratios and it moves pretty good for what it is. A lot of people probably think they are weak because they have raced either the 4 speed auto GT which is a decent bit slower to 60mph, or even worse the 4cyl model. And you know I came from the Mustang with with over 300hp, but this thing impresses me for only 210hp. It's not bad at all...

    Cam sensor is in the distributor and not really serviceable. Crank sensor is behind the lower timing cover. Warm idle should be 700 +\- 50, sticking IAC can be cleaned but I’ve only had success with this once. For after market IAC I’ve found if OEM isn’t an option either WVE or Walker Products will work, basically identical in stepper motor operation but WVE is cheaper and performs a bit faster imo. If idle is bad on cold start, but gets better after warmed, MAF. Possibly damaged thinking you can clean ours which you absolutely can NOT clean our MAF as there is no hot wire to clean, it uses a different kind of sensor that is a laser/mirror combo and essentially “listens” to the air volume. Only Maf that will work correctly with our cars is OEM of Delphi, as Delphi used to be Denso and a subsidiary of GM Understanding our unique Maf due to their relationship with Mitsubishi from the diamond star motors days. The Delphi will contain unique features to our Mafs, such as the barometer. OEM first choice for this, only Delphi as a viable option in the aftermarket space.

    @@92kbuilds-mn2lk Do not adjust idle speed with BISS screw, IAC will adjust regardless of BISS setting and ECU will still control idle. If someone has messed with the BISS screw, stock BISS setting is from all the way in, one and a half turns out. To test IAC with a multimeter set to resistance 200 ohms and between pins 2-1 and 2-3 resistance must be 28-33 ohms at 20c/68f. Same test needs to be preformed between pins 5-6 and 5-4 pins, same resistance and same ambient temperature. Be aware a bad IAC can pass this test, but it's a helpful indicator of the stepper motors health.

Did a full tune up, fixed coolant leaks, and did the timing belt more than once. Also whole new front end (struts, tie rods, control arms, links, bushings). Could be either, or even the wires. You gotta inspect/test them to find the culprit. Most likely, IF it's a spark issue, would be the distributor cap/rotor (or whole distributor) though since it's a *multiple* misfire. But as I said, mine was from the timing belt skipping teeth. The fact that you "drop" one cylinder at random intervals could just be a secondary issue while still having slipped timing. I posted a 40 minute video last time going through all the checks and literally checked the timing belt last (because I had just fixed the timing belt), and it ended up being the timing again. Might want to watch that video from beginning to end if you're not sure what to check or how or where to start...

    @@92kbuilds-mn2lk, yeah bro, love your videos! Do you know how the turbo process would work? I'm currently INTERESTED! So far I have the aem cold air intake, red aluminum pulleys, straight pipe from the second cat, resonator, and ending with a cherry bomb muffler. The welding shop that did it just added the muffler with the original downpipe tip from the stock. I've thought about straight pipe all the way but it's a bit too loud when flooring it to 40-50mph. People look my way when I accelerate when I'm on the road. It does have a massive amount of drone. The only way I don't hear it as much would be at a constant speed of 70mph, anything else is straight drone. However, I do enjoy starting the car up in the morning with the little growl it has. I found a shop that's willing to tune my Kia but if there's a turbo option, I am open to ideas. I've got a recall getting done tomorrow. I'd say bro, I went a little crazy on this car after watching your videos. I got the ignition coils, spark plugs, solenoid timing valve sensor, new belt, new alternator & starter, LED fog & headlights, the same tire and rims you got, and 5% tint all around just for the heck of it. Sorry for this being long bro...

  • @92kbuilds-mn2lk
    @92kbuilds-mn2lkАй бұрын

    Oh no worries, I write books on here all the time lol. So the turbo would have to be custom- you would have to find a shop to do a custom build and it'd probably run 6 grand or more. My original thought was to swap the Hyundai Velositor 1.6 Turbo engine into it, which is the same engine but turbo'd. But all the wiring is different, all the couplers and harnesses are different between Hyundai and Kia, and the gauges and interface for literally everything is different. So basically you're better off just doing a custom turbo setup on the Rio engine- nobody makes a turbo kit for a Rio so everything would have to be custom. And you could only boost the stock engine a little bit because the compression is a little too high for boost and the internals are not built to be turbo'd so you'd have to build the engine as well if you wanted to do more than 5-6lbs of boost- that would bring the total probably closer to 10 grand. Next you'd probably be breaking axles and the transmission with all the added power if you went more than 5-6lbs of boost. The reciept just keeps getting longer and longer the faster you want to go lol...

    For sure better/more cost effective to go with a different car, which is probably why you never see any of these turbo'd (which is why I wanted to do it). Stick around long enough and I might eventually do it once this channel grows and funds it...

    Thank you!!!!! I wonder if the hydro tensioner is going bad because of not adjusting the eccentric pully? I have same car same problem. Tool should come with high end parts kit. No one else mentions this. Thank you!!!!!

    Very good question, I never thought of that. Not having the tension set correctly/having a loose belt slapping around in there would certainly overwork the hydraulic tensioner...

    @@92kbuilds-mn2lk Both lol. I guess my question would be what's a reliable fun old manual car that can be bought for sub 5k (ok if it needs some minor work).
