    You explain things really well. Ty. Question, Is it possible that having trouble with certain skills is not a balance issue but a strength issue? The skates are so heavy and I kind of feel like if my legs were stronger and lifting the skate was easier it wouldn't throw my balance off so much.

  • @Skatie
    @SkatieСағат бұрын

    Skating takes a lot of strength so this could definitely be the case.

    I used to skate at a rink pretty often as a kid/teen with my family. Then i stopped for many years.i started taking my kids now taht they are old enough. It did come back to me sort of after a while but it is not just like riding a bike lol. So at 37 ive bought some skates to try to practice at home too. I find that if im listening to music and not thinking about it i skate pretty well but as soon as i start thinkong about it i cant skate anymore. 🤦‍♀️ But i dont know how to improve skills if i dont know what my weigjt and balance is doing in the first place. 😮‍💨

    This video is utterly fantastic! I only recently decided i really wanna give skating a try and was so caught up in figuring oyt which to buy when id completely skippped the "try before you buy" approach (hilarious because im actually a sample supervisor in a food production warehouse 🤣) Gonna try out dkating soon and hopwfully get some in the near future! Thanks so mucg for your incredibly informative, vbeautifully edited and humor-filled intro video! Defibutely earned a sub for sure!!!!+

    Hey Katie! Is it possible for my skates to have no edges at all? I've already tried adjusting my trucks and my wheels only have minimal flexing even though my trucks are already wobbly (it's already too loose). I'm thinking of changing my cushions but I still need second opinions.

  • @Skatie
    @SkatieКүн бұрын

    It definitely sounds like your cushions are too hard. Have you seen my “Don’t do it” video. That explains all about trucks and cushions etc.

    I’m new to this channel and I want to learn roller skating, and my question is: which stop would be best to practice as a beginner?

  • @Skatie
    @SkatieКүн бұрын

    I’d say try either the T stop or the plow. The plow is good as you don’t have to lift your feet

    I'm trying the snake/bubble pattern and I find I'm just not moving at all? I loosened my trucks quite a lot so now my skates can move side to side, but it's still not working. I even tried getting a moving start and when I try to lean and push nothing happens and my feet just keep going straight no matter how much I feel I turn them.

    Hi Skatie! I'm learning from Italy and I love your style!❤ It would be amazing to have other videos more on the artistic side of skating (like toeloop, Salchow, Flip and other jumps, small choreographies to practice around the rink and tips on how to seem Graceful, light and elegant on roller skates).

    Hallo Katie, first of all your videos are great. I want to learn Roller Skate again after 30 jears. But im not unsportiv. I do cycling with racecycle. I have no fear but a lot respect to learn it again. I have a very good trick to push when i am getting forward. I put my right feet on the too stop. Then i gets little push on my right feet. And i can go forward. Also when i stay on rollers to keep my balance, i put one foot on the toestop. It help me very good. It gives me confidence. My next lesson is to skate backwards. You are right, to learn rollerskating is a journey, but a very nice beautiful journey.

    Normally instead of a step over/ I just do cross over. They’re useful for more than just going fast, the sharper u can do them, the more people u can avoid at rinks since u can make a better inside line than less experienced skaters. Or, you can go faster on an outside line to overtake them.

    I’ve started skating again. Only at the rink, and I hire skates. I got myself some derby wrist guards (I landed whilst running and it hurt!) and bumsavers, which are great. I did get protec knee and elbow but find them super bulky. Any suggestions for something, or should I persevere with the protec ones? TVM.

    Thank you so much for your videos !!! They are so helpful and full of kindness for beginners, it's so great to watch !! I didn't skate since I was 10 or 11, but as I was searching for buying roller quads to my son, I bought a pair for me too 😬 I think it could be nice to learn again ... at least my son will see that grown-ups can't do what children do 😂 I'm so excited about trying them, so I found your channel and I just hope it will help me to stand on my quads and help my son to stand on theirs and have fun ! And here I am trying to be the next Brian Aragon lol. I haven't skated outside but I'd love to. Learned backwards skating and jump 360s in 1 1/2 month but don't own a pair only go to the rink this helps out a lot because outside is a different world as far as friction and surface it seems.

    Thank you, one of the most enlightening videos I've seen yet. Very informative and explained very well. One question. Would the advice change for plastic trucks? I know metal is always better, but I'm a 40 year old only ice skated a few times and wanted to start roller skating (nothing at all to do with Starlight Express coming back to London at all lol!) and they were cheap and good for me to get used to.

  • @Skatie
    @Skatie12 күн бұрын

    Hi. Glad the video helped. Unfortunately I really wouldn’t recommend skating on plastic trucks . They’re ok for children but they cannot handle the weight of an adult. If you’re going to roll them please make sure you wear full safety gear incase they fail whilst you’re wearing them.
