i've had mine since day one, took me 3 years to figure out the true cinema look. The camera has hidden secrets to it. it does compete with the FX 3. all I can say is, its all in the setting you know how to set the camera up. So now all my production I get that true cinema look. the camera is a beast, love it. i decided not to do the current firmware update. I'm keeping it old school, as a director I know what I'm filming, no need to have the option of deleting what I filmed, I'm keeping everything filmed. overall very impressed still to this day aswell.

I bought this unit but I have one concern. The unit is high quality except the handle and the gimbal are attached by a small 2mm thick plastic piece. It seems strange that the entire unit is high quality yet, at the most vulnerable point it is held together by 2mm of plastic. In my opinion this is a break waiting to happen. Perhaps not on day one, but I can easily see within a year that piece snapping and my FX3 crashing to the ground. I checked out Glidecams and they have a much more robost construction.

You don’t need a leveling base if the swing axis (side to side camera movement adjustment) on the tripod head is above the tilt axis. The Arca-Swiss mono all PO is one tripod head, for example. The knob that you loosen to let the camera swing back and forth is above the tripod head’s ball. Level the head with the ball adjustment and you’re all set.

In the past, this has really become a problem for me. It feels like I can't go anywhere in the bushes and such where I really want to go because I want a certain angle for some shots or photos. I use a 60 liter pack for my gear - I try to avoid taking it off and putting it on the ground for the reasons you mentioned - if I do, I also give it a good shake and a couple of hits to get rid of potential passengers before I put it back on. I've also tried lots of different sprays - but I don't know what to think of them. It's also important to search carefully your body after you've been in an area for ticks - it's best to do this with someone else. It is also important to check if some new species are around.
