I don't know what are you all about. The 4K version looks much sharper and crisper than the blu ray, it's a night and day difference

This is really disappointing and frustrating. I got the 4K Extended films because my family watches the every year - it's become a New Year's tradition. When we watched the 4K versions, I loved the detail, but I noticed that some things were very off with the color. Especially, everyone from Rohan with blonde hair at Helm's Deep had a greenish tint to their hair. I thought ti might be due to my screen, which is a 43" 4K monitor, but tweaking the monitor settings, I couldn't really fix the greenish-looking hair. Some other scenes didn't look right but I didn't really study them hard enough to figure out what was wrong, I just knew that things didn't look right. From this documentary I learned that Jackson may have screwed up the colors deliberately to match the grading of scenes in The Hobbit, and I'm horrified! We don't use the H-word in this house - those movies are atrocious. This is like restoring Star Trek, and altering everything to match the animated series... or George Lucas altering the original Star Wars. Thank G-d _that_ would never happen 😠 We'll probably watch the extended edition DVDs again next New Year's and leave it at that. If they ever do release a decent 4K edition, am I gonna have to buy the White Album yet again?

35mm is actually 5K resolution, better than 4K bluray. It just has film grain and imperfections still. As long as 35mm exists it can be remastered. But these AI assisted remasters lately are terrible

This 3rd Part is weird, it’s a different type of Analysis, the first two parts were purely about the Show, now you’re trying everything you can to make the show look as bad as possible, not because the show is actually bad, but because you don’t like some of the usual House jokes, which you sympathized with in the first two parts. This Analysis turned from good to extremely bad the moment you started voicing things that are both stupid and untrue. Hopefully, you go back to an actual Analysis of the Show in the rest of this. (Also, the moment you started talking about any type of trans stuff was the moment you completely went off course and just started saying the most random and coincidental stuff, while also including some truth so that you can make your personal, biased Opinions of 2021/2022 sound like real Facts and not just delusional stuff)

These films deserve a full rescan of all the 35mm footage. To throw it into Topaz and just upscale the footage is beyond lazy, even with taking out the CGI and upscaling it separately. Only way to get a truly Native 4k print is to scan the negatives. Truly embarrassing stuff.

a video was not needed to answer this question, it's simple.. yes it can get remade, should it get remade? thats another question... for the most part, no, it should not get remade, but there is one way it could get remade, and that is properly, instead of 3 movies, it should be six, peter jackson messed up alot of important character development and even veto'd whole parts of the story, messed around witht he pacing and ordering and if you ever read the books, you will realise, peter jacksons trilogy, is, terrible!

As a colorist I concur on everything you've pointed out. This is obviously not a 4K Scan that was done for the making of the 4K UHD Disc. It would have been too expensive for the studio. Here in France Studio Canal completely re-master Brotherwhood of the wolf. New scan of the original 35mm nagatives reels, as well of Inter-negatives with visual effects, they redo evertyhting from scratch. They changed the color grading because at that time it was not possible to be as precise as today in splitting tones. This is a lot of hard work, and to be honest most people wouldn't care that much. The audience today wants flat and soft images like the one they see on Netflix "content". Most people really think that T2 our Aliens UHD discs are incredible... beacause it "looks" modern without any grain structure. If you're interested I work on several movies restorations on my KZread channel. Re-mastering in 4K & Regrading in HDR Aliens to the looks it has on 35mm, working on True Lies or the Matrix too.

That's why physical media is important. The original versions should not become lost media. Have you seen what they did to The Phantom Menace? And I'm sure they won't release DUNE in 1.43:1 IMAX ratio on Blu-ray neither.

i kinda disagree with what you said about dwight, and his character going through that depression. the office has always been uncomfortable. even in the early seasons, especially those. there is rarely a great resolution or even a resolution at the end of any episode, i think dwight being "not funny" kind of reflects that. everyone in the office is extreme in their own way. for dwight to reflect that uncomfortable reality of the situations the office finds themselves in is actually hella interesting, to me at least. i never saw the office as trying to be funny all of the time, every time.

Kids today are spoiled... In my days, we were glad to see a movie once or twice in the theatre. When it was released on VHS, we rushed to rent it. We never complained about clarity, artifacts or VHS noise. We didn't even have the full picture, unless we got a version that added two black bars, top and bottom of screen, because our tv sets were in the 4:3 format. I will never care about 4K. HD is good enough for me. Also I have bad eyesight.

Another aspect of the lion king shot that I loved is the way they distort Simba's facial features in the same way a camera will distort your features the closer it gets to your face- his nose gets bigger, his ears move behind his head, his eyes move further apart. If you compare Simba's face before and after the vertigo shot is completed, it's much more correctly proportioned. The attention to detail here is incredible!

It's a grave mistake to believe that the film industry has grown over time to support film preservation. No, they support film preservation only because they see ways to make money off it. If it doesn't make money, or a new way to get it to make money isn't found, it goes in a trash, just like the lost silent films.

It’s a work of art. It was what it was the day it was released. As much as I loved the extended editions (my name was in the credits on the DVD), if the extra footage was all that great, it would have been in the theatrical release. Peter et al, need to let it go. It’s done. We never see painters going into art galleries “updating “ their paintings with the latest colors.

Then I learned there was a 4K version and now that I have equipment for it, I thought "well, a shame I have to pay once more but okay", only to learn that the 4K version is bad as well. What version should I even get? I thought Star Wars releases were the only series with this trouble.
