    The mount prospect police car/ Bluesmobile once occurred to me as the least expensive "famous movie car" that almost anyone in the USA could own / collect. But nowadays getting an old Dodge Monaco four-door might be getting harder than finding one of the other millions of famous movie cars. This cars owner did a great job with their Bluesmobile and everything in it and on it.

    Just watched this now whilst playing catch up on your videos. What an absolutely stunning array of supercars, nicely presented in a beautiful setting. A shame this event is only for Drivers Union but understandable that such events exist.

    I hope our government doesn’t load the price of these with ridiculous tariffs. Our car industry needs competition to stimulate it into making a product at the right price with the features consumers want. Tariffs don’t work long term anyway.

    Thanks, helpful. Thinking of getting one of these (in cheapest Classic trim) to replace my 2016 Cooper auto, and as I'll be 60 this year my main concern is the ride. Mine has 16" wheels and borders on too firm; is the S on 17"-ers going to be worse, or have they changed the setup somehow? Might end up going for the Cooper C Classic + Level 1 (which basic S has) with 16" wheels, still sub-8 0-62 so fast enough for an old guy :)

    I think I'd need the Level 1 (£2k) on the Classic for the head-up display; without it I'm not sure I'd be able to adjust to looking at the central screen to see what speed I'm doing. Other toys would be nice (folding mirrors, keyless entry etc.) but not essential.

    I wonder if the people who manufacture speed cameras, and now these new ones are actually drivers, or do they cycle to work so they don't care about this war on motorists because they will never get caught. I have a plan to cure unemployment overnight, lets re-introduce a man with a red flag walking in front off "every" car, lorry, bus on the roads, not only will the unemployment be cured it will be the only way to drive at this ridiculous 20mph limit imposed upon us in certain areas. Like you say BCG, not only do we have to keep our eyes peeled for errant pedestrians, pot holes, Gatso's, other idiot drivers, now we have a new foe to watch out for, where are the Blade Runners when you need them, now they've finished their work in Kent, they have a new foe to deal with. 🤣🤣🤣 We need to be more like the French and stand up to this tyranny.

    I like the idea of classics converted to electrics, subject to certain qualifiers, but I want a clutch a gearbox! The qualifications? The conversion needs to be reversible, involve no major chassis surgery and no be applied to a rare or historically important vehicle. Oh, and I have to be able to afford it!

  • @BrownCarGuy
    @BrownCarGuy21 сағат бұрын

    You’re right! Pretty much all the conversions I’ve seen so far are reversible, and you can still have the clutch and gearbox.

    Also, consider the collaborations that those three manufacturers currently have with other makers. Just off the top of my head, you have the Suzuki Swace, which is a badge-engineered Corolla estate, you have the Toyota Supra, based on the BMW Z4, and you have Stellantis' Fiat 124, based on the MX-5. And I note that BMW has been testing hydrogen-fuelled cars maybe longer than Toyota has. So, now add up the worldwide market share of all six companies and it's even more significant. And, as said, BMW and Toyota have a shared long-term interest and significant investment in hydrogen technology, which I'm sure neither wants to abandon.

    We are being conned right left and centre. The culprits .... the Gov. They allow companies to contiue robbing us as they collect the extra tax on the higher price. Al due in part because they loosing fuel revenue on the ridiculous EV agenda. Nothing is likely to change anytime soon . The next looney tune party to get in will just roll along with it.

    In the last few months Toyota has championed hydrogen, 600 mile battery tech, 6 new EVs by 2027, and now this. All their main markets have adopted the 2035 mandate. They are just stalling.

    @nigel.w but their biggest markets have adopted it. Who do you think they are going to sell to. I have just read that Japan is going EV/ hybrid by 2035.

  • @nigel.w
    @nigel.w21 сағат бұрын

    @@oneeyedgirl617 We'll see. 2035 is totally unworkable at the current rate and level of technology, unless you're prepared to allow humanitarian disasters unrelated to climate change that mother nature would struggle to compete with and simultaneously destroy Western economies. Although, ideologues may well allow or want such. As far as Toyota and co's biggest markets currently, those markets are already under threat, no matter what products are offered, and well led companies will see this and be looking to satisfy the vast needs of developing economies with huge energy needs that only fossil fuels can satisfy, and huge increasingly prosperous populations both needing and wanting to be mobilized. Toyota and co's future may well be secured by looking to their post-war past. Ultimately, what Toyota and co are saying, and btw both European and American automotive CEOs are saying similar things, is that they are not prepared to be silent or passive when effectively told to commit commercial suicide by ideologues. Whatever the motives of the ideologues, these mandates threaten the Western economy and millions of lives. Real science simply must prevail, and only large corporations like Toyota can push back against the rise of corporatism.

    32:22 even Stellantis are backing off EVs. I.e. the Citroen C4X and Citroen's commercial cars fleet as Berlingo, Jumpy etc were announced to go pure EV. But now suddenly you can order all of these again as pure petrol and diesel. Same with the brand new C3, it is available as pure petrol. When Lancia's re-launch was announced, it was said its going to be a pure EV brand. Now they have confirmed a hybrid version of their new Ypsilon and a pure petrol is rumoured.

    Thing is… cars are sold on a global market. Surely, there must be large parts of the World (Asia, Africa, Latin America) which cannot afford to 'go electric' or would find it impracticable.

  • @nigel.w

    I fully agree that the infrastructure is the issue re EVs, 70% of owners can charge at home but for the rest there is no financially viable or logistical solution. The Japanese are the most vulnerable when it comes to oil, in times of war (Taiwan) that will be the first thing they will loose. They should be doing the exact opposite of what they're doing. The fact is that the realization of global climate change should have put us on a global war footing to allow us to make the transition away from fossil fuels. We've made this bed and now we are going to lie in it.

    A couple of the issues with these proposals. Liquid hydrogen has to be stored at minus 250C to keep it liquid and to make 1 energy unit of hydrogen you need 3 units of electricity to make it!. E fuels will be very expensive compared with normal petrol, which is fine for Porsche owners but not for most ICE owners.

  • @nigel.w
    @nigel.wКүн бұрын

    You're right, but the likes of Porsche are smart. Towards the end of last year the German makers got exemptions from the upcoming EU ban on ICE for ICE cars that run on synthetic fuels. Remember that if a car runs on synthetic fuel it also runs on petrol without modifications! So they actually got an exemption for all ICE cars! They will sell you an ICE car to run on synthetic fuel that you can immediately fill up at the petrol station! How long before the EU catches on? Who knows. But the EU's negotiators are clearly not very bright.
