Yeah. I prefer to pay a little. The big problem for me is that they changed the w4 since I was hired at my current company. If I update mine. I'll use the new form... and they'll take even more out of my check with a bigger refund. 🤢🤮 So instead I'm ok with some capital gains tax or other taxes. That eat up that difference. It's not ideal. But I can't get them lower.

I got a bed, but that was when i was doing doordash and getting my milage deducted from what i owed, as well as estimated taxes. I was so proud of myself because i got a queen mattress and adjustable frame for less than their buy a mattress get a free adjustable frame, they tried to trick me with that, the mattresses that were on the coupon cost more than paying for a cheaper mattress and frame. I didn't want to pay more than how much i got refunded so i did pretty good.

I woke up to the tragic drawbacks of our debt-based financial system during the last financial crash. Through discipline, determination and Abby Joseph Cohen my financial advisor, I was able to retire recently in my early '50s with a bit of land in the Williamson act on the California coast and an investment portfolio that can sustain my daily living. I try to spread the word and encourage many people I meet it is possible to achieve the goal of independence. Living below your means can be enormously rewarding! Practice humility and above all, Invest in the financial markets with expert guidance.

I know this FA, Abby Joseph Cohen Services but only by her reputation of being a former employee at Goldman Sachs; even though she's now involved in managing portfolios and providing investmnt guidance to clients. I have been trying to get in contact since I watched her interview on WSJ last month

The best line for a person that asks you to co-sign for a loan is I don’t believe in debt and I don’t want to put you in a bad situation by co-signing for a loan that way you get to say no for the best interest of the person trying to borrow money.

Experiences over stuff: Just paid cash for a 17 day vacation in a Europe for my family of three. Amsterdam, Paris, London and Belgium. Delta paid for my tickets (company travel points). Everything else was cash saved and much bargain hunting. Didn’t have to scrimp on meals or destination sights. Came back $3k under budget with that cash still in the savings account. Wouldn’t trade it for anything. Daughter is 16 and we don’t have that much easy time with her before we’re broke paying for college 😅 Don’t EVER rent a car in Europe (we didn’t). Public transportation is easy and cheap. Parking will kill you (one hotel was $40/night).

My parents raised 4 children AND supported their parents financially. Dad worked for the same company for 30 years while Mom stayed at home. We had a new 5-bedroom house in the suburbs with a big yard, two cars, went on vacation every summer and a paid-for college education. I have no clue how they managed to pull that off!

I support paying taxes for public services such as roads, bridges, parks, libraries, police, fire departments, etc…but I draw the line at public schools. I owned a house for 20 years and discovered 65% of our property tax went to the school district. I don’t have children and, at age 63, will never have any. And some of my neighbors home-school their kids. Why should we pay for a service we will surely never use (and have no say so as to what they do) when that money could be used to pay off our mortgage?

  • @katezajac6730

I agree with Rachel about property tax. As long as you own it you have no option to pay or it will turn into debt. It could be bare land that no one lives on, but it's still due. I feel it produces the same slave mentality as debt. It's different than income tax, utilities and other bills. You do have the option to cancel it or if you don't earn income there isn't a tax due for just being alive.

I remember a few summers ago, not long after my horrible divorce, I was in dire need of advise on investments to keep my head above water. Fortunately, I met someone with grit who greatly assisted me in growing my reserve, which despite inflation has increased from $360k to about seven figures now.
