    Terrific stuff to a TH die hard. imo SMS never felt complete without I Zimbra, Big Business, and Cities. Love to see a comparison of the A24 re-release to the o.g. film, as I swear I heard (maybe even saw) big differences in the mix and cut.

  • @uhohbyrne
    @uhohbyrne15 күн бұрын

    There's definitely some large differences in the new SMS mixes. I've noticed quite a few changes in the strength of certain instruments (especially What a Day That Was) and missing ad libs from others (most notably Take Me to the River.) But visually things look the same besides quality restoration! Only this and Big Business/I Zimbra had new shots.

    @@uhohbyrne 100% possible I was just overwhelmed by the iMax of it all. First saw it on VHS! Carried around a cassette I bootlegged from the cable box after a VH1 re-broadcast, it legit sounded better than the official release, and it had the bonus tracks. Felt vindicated when they finally got the whole show on DVD. Still want to dig into this new mix, def miss the adlibs…

    As a Bowie fanatic and record collector i go against the grain of many Bowie fans. I agree that some of his 80s stuff isn't great. But I'm of the opinion that if you like it then that's fine. To me Heroes is the best song ever written in the history of popular music. But the album isn't as good as some would say it is.Same with the Low album. Some great tracks but to many instrumentals which get bit boring. Now some might totally disagree and that's fine and that's what music should be. Zeroes of Never let me down album is great. The album itself is not brilliant but some Bowie fans won't even play it. Come on. I love the guy. He's a genius. He didn't always get it right. I think his cover of God only knows is the worst song he's ever done but that's only my opinion. Some of you might like it and fair enough. To me his best 80s songs are Absolute Begginers ( absolute classic) and i love When the Wind Blows. It's a brilliant record. As The world Falls Down is another great song from this period. And again my opinion only but his best album ever was released in the 80s. Scary Monsters album is brilliant from start to finish with a wonderful cover version of Kingdom Come. To anyone getting into Bowie then a greatest hits album for sure but after that then perhaps give Scary Monsters a spin. Then obviously delve into the 70s stuff which will blow your freaking mind. I suggest Hunky Dory first followed by perhaps Ziggy Stardust. But there's so much to delve into whether it's the glam stuff or the more let's say serious stuff. But if i had to pick one song besides Heroes ( has to be the full length album version) then either try Word on a Wing from Station to Station album ( the whole album is amazing) or Fantastic Voyage ( opening track from Lodger Album). Anyway what ever Bowie you like ( l love his whole career although not everything works but each to their own) I'm sure you will start on a journey you'll never get bored from. Again these are my opinions and would love to hear if you agree or disagree. Either way enjoy the genius of Mr David Bowie.

    I love how Scottish they are! David Byrne, Bon Scott, the Young Brothers and Mark Knopfler - all born in Scotland but raised in different countries. Some of music’s greatest.

  • @flannerymonaghan-morris4825
    @flannerymonaghan-morris482526 күн бұрын

    With David, it’s a bit more complex than that, as he was born in Scotland but when he was 2 years old, he and his family moved away from there to Canada and then he and his family moved to the U.S. when he was 8. Strangely enough (or maybe not so strangely considering that he was born in 1952 and back then there wasn’t as much globalization as there is now) despite having moved from Scotland when he was very young to Canada and the U.S. and never really having spent that much time in Scotland, he had developed a pretty strong Scottish accent (most people who were born in a different country and moved to another one at a very young age never really develop the accent of the countries that they are born and adopt the accents of the kids around them), but he got rid of it when he came to the US because he was being bullied at school for it. On the other hand, Mark Knopfler and both Bon Scott and the Young Brothers had this too, but unlike David they never got the accents that their parents had being raised in another country.

    I had a fairly close childhood friend who worked for Bowie during this tour. He committed suicide back in 2008 (if I remember correctly). I attended his 'wake' along with one of The Sims Brothers who sang back-up vocals on the "Let's Dance" album. Curiously enough, Peter Frampton was in the line-up for this tour. He would later claim that David's inviting to join his band for this tour saved his life.
