David Byrne with his parents on the set of True Stories
Ойын-сауық
David and his parents, Tom and Emma Byrne, on set while filming True Stories.
David’s parents were background characters in what I believe was the fashion show sequence; Tom dressed as a construction worker and Emma dressed as a waitress. Here they are (rather humorously) discussing their initial reactions to reading the film’s script.
(I'm not entirely sure if they made it in the final cut, I have yet to spot them in the background)

David Byrne ended up looking so much like his dad in recent years.
I love that at times you can see David visibly struggling not to burst out laughing…
God his parents are really adorable! I can see a lot of David’s looks and mannerisms in his dad.
David looks just like his dad nowadays😊

Funny how once we reach retirement age we end up looking like our dads
If you consider his dad is aggressively Scottish you need to visit us. His dad has a soft Scots accent 😀🏴🏴🏴

That's why David's voice is so unique, he's got a slight Scottish accent!

Yeah, it's pretty light. Barely north of northern, really.

@@campfortson4387 I remember in an interview he did some years back, he said that despite moving away from Scotland to the U.S./Canada at a very young age (I think he was 2 when he moved to Canada and 8 when he moved to the States), he had developed a rather strong Scottish accent that he eventually worked hard to get rid of because he was being bullied at school for it when he got to the U.S.. It’s barely noticeable now, but if you listen closely to him when he talks during interviews, he has some faint traces of a Scottish accent mixed with his predominantly Canadian/U.S. East Coast accent. It’s definitely pleasant to hear, because it’s very soft spoken and sweet. It’s also a bit noticeable when he sings as well, on some words, again if you listen closely.

I'd say that both parents were aggressively transsexual.

0:27 David Byrne sneezes in Scottish.
God that’s is so lovely to see!! A legend’s parents!!
This reminds me of a picture I saw of Frank Zappa near the beginning of his career, and his smiling, proud, happy straight arrow parents!
This is very , very cool , thankyou to uhohbyrne 197 great to see this little interaction of David's family I love true stories. Never thought of it as a film , more like a guided tour of "strangeville USA"
I love how Scottish they are! David Byrne, Bon Scott, the Young Brothers and Mark Knopfler - all born in Scotland but raised in different countries. Some of music’s greatest.

With David, it’s a bit more complex than that, as he was born in Scotland but when he was 2 years old, he and his family moved away from there to Canada and then he and his family moved to the U.S. when he was 8. Strangely enough (or maybe not so strangely considering that he was born in 1952 and back then there wasn’t as much globalization as there is now) despite having moved from Scotland when he was very young to Canada and the U.S. and never really having spent that much time in Scotland, he had developed a pretty strong Scottish accent (most people who were born in a different country and moved to another one at a very young age never really develop the accent of the countries that they are born and adopt the accents of the kids around them), but he got rid of it when he came to the US because he was being bullied at school for it. On the other hand, Mark Knopfler and both Bon Scott and the Young Brothers had this too, but unlike David they never got the accents that their parents had being raised in another country.
