    Awesome video mate. Iv got a 2013 xtr and been wanting to upgrade my unit for years but there has been so many crap upgrades. I’m keen to get the same unit. Is it bright at night or does it dim down automatically when you turn your lights on?

  • @TheBrowneTown

    I don't think it does dim actually but I have all my apps in dark mode so the screen is mostly black for me (Spotify or maps) so I never really notice.

    @chrisp7179 yeah I am but it's not perfect. I just wanted Android to run apps without car play or android auto and I wanted storage. I have a few shortcuts set up which makes it way better. I just wish my centre button steering wheel control worked but it doesn't and the phone charging is shit when it's hot it doesn't charge. Still wouldn't change it though.

    @@TheBrowneTown yeh ok that’s fair enough. It seems no matter what one you look at there is always features that aren’t so good and some that are. No one seems to make the perfect unit. And getting something that is plug and play with no hassles.

    Great video! I'd rank the dash cam high as it's for one of those low probability/high consequence events. I have the RedTiger 11" rear mirror dash cam. Got it off Amazon for $199 and it has 4K front and 2.5K rear cameras. I had the previous version (1440/1080) and that's migrated to my wife's car now that the new one is in the Triton. The rear camera is mounted to the top of the back wall of the canopy. So that gives me rear vision + dash cam recording front and rear. I feel naked driving without a dash cam now. So it's an essential. For me ;-)

  • @TheBrowneTown
    @TheBrowneTown10 күн бұрын

    I like the reverse one for every day driving, but I do need to upgrade it soon as I can see it failing permanently one day. I don't regret the forward facing dash, it's just uninteresting and something has to be last 😛

    @@TheBrowneTown My wife had one of those Viofo forward mounted dash cams. Unfortunately the only time we needed it was recently and it had become disconnected. The screen is small and goes blank shortly after startup so she didn't know it wasn't working and we didn't get the evidence we need. D'oh! I like the mirror-type dash cams as you can see immediately if they are working or not. -Just my two cents. My lowest rank item would be an Ultragauge Bluetooth OBD. What a supreme piece of crap. Eh, you live and learn...

    It is true that to do it without having to drill a hole then you would have to remove the dash. You can do it this way to save money, maybe even ask the dealership to do it this way if you really wanted? Most people don't have the time or patience for removing the dash for an issue which is likely to pop up again and again because the part itself seems dodgy.

  • @TheBrowneTown
    @TheBrowneTown17 күн бұрын

    I ran cables through the firewall in the front left hand side of the car, behind the glove box (for right hand side drive cars) and into the engine bay. I actually did this in a different video as part of the car build so I already had cables ready to go technically. I have a blue sea safetyhub 150 in the engine bay that I use for all accessories, so all I needed was a ring lug to connect my a five and negative wires to this fuse hub, otherwise you connect direct to the battery.

  • @TheBrowneTown

    You need a permit to fly in Thailand. Don't fly over people's heads or over crowds. When I went in 2020 there were no issues but if they have put signs up saying no drones then don't fly it. I went at sunrise and waited for everyone who was praying to leave before taking off and I didn't fly over the temple. I flew from the outside and then circled it. Just be respectful and check if you need a permit.

  • @TheBrowneTown

    No issues so far but I'm not exactly doing water crossings or anything like that. Has been fine, dust proof and lightweight. I think the locks on the toolboxes and the trundle drawer are a little finicky but once you're used to it it's a non-issue. It does exactly what I need it to do and hopefully I hold into it for another 10 years or so. I'm not into flipping things for no reason I try to make purchases that last. Plenty of canopy manufacturers these days though to choose from.

    Hello Great Video. Just a question in regard to the piggyback anderson plug. Say for instance I had one of these connected to a n anderson plug lead on the van that presumeably come from the battery. . Can I plug in 2 Portable Solar Panels/Blankets One is a 280W 20.5 Volts (Panel) and the Other is a 200W 18 volts Blanket, both with MPPT. Or am I better putting MPPT closer to the battery. and connect to each individual battery. I was told that I cannot connect the panels in parallel because of the different type and voltage of the batteries tks
