    On the "miss" strokes.. does the engine actually draw in fuel/air to cool the cylinder down...even if the spark is not igniting the mixture?

  • @MatthewHenson.
    @MatthewHenson.3 ай бұрын

    Hello, on the miss stroke the exhaust valve is held open so air is only bought in through the exhaust. No fuel/ air is drawn in through the intake.

  • @JohnSmith-pl2bk
    @JohnSmith-pl2bk3 ай бұрын

    @@MatthewHenson. That explains that... otherwise the strokes that are unfired would still be using fuel.... not to produce any power...but just to cool the cylinder.. Since the exhaust valve is held open all the crap and heat in the exhaust gets drawn back into the cylinder.... not optimum... I suppose that when good carburettors were invented the need for the "miss" stroke went away.... better constant metering of the fuel for every intake stroke......

    It's an American made Fairbanks Morse z 6hp stationary engine. Originally used to power farm and industrial machinery.

    @@MatthewHenson. is it steem engine?

  • @MatthewHenson.
    @MatthewHenson.3 ай бұрын

    @@AskWasKirub it's a petrol paraffin engine. To start it you fill the carb with petrol, then once it is warm you can change the fuel mixture to paraffin (which was cheaper than petrol in the 1920s) I had some paraffin left over and tried to run it on that which is why it was so smokey. The hopper around the cylinder is full of water to help cool the engine and stop overheating hence the steam coming out the top.

    It takes a long time to create that much clutter. First move the engine to someplace with enough room around it to easily get to the pieces. Let the oil soak for a day or a week. Never use a pipe wrench on a machined surface,.

    Hello, the spark plug is attached, but as can be seen at 6:29 there is another object in the head. I haven't investigated what it is yet, but I think it may be some sort of decompress or an emergency stop. But I'm not too sure.

The tractor tread front tyre is actually a agricultural spec optional extra according to the sales brochure

    Built in Boston, Lincolnshire by Geest Trucks, part of the Mechanical Handling Division of Geest Industries Limited. They also manufactured trolleys and barrows which by 1961 had over one hundred and fifty different catalogued models. The banana division was a seperate entity based at Spalding with countrywide import and distribution depots.

    You call that off roading? I do work with my 1946 Agricat that would scare you. Short small crawlers can get a bit scary on grades above 30 degrees but they work well with home made attachements for raking debris and light grading.
