    This looks like the same exact thing that I bought as a pair/kit. HTB-GS-03. I think it's Chinese made and gets re-labeled by others. There are versions in videos with only a single Fiber port usable and the units are labeled "A" and "B" and you connect a single fiber cable between the two TX ports.

    @@10gtek Mine says it's BiDi in the advertisement. I wonder if I disconnected 2nd port if it would actually DO that. BiDi supposedly uses two different wavelengths of light signal to accomplish 2 directions. I understand that at the ends of the DAC cable there is an EEPROM and it tells me who I am. Question - does the NIC card ports reading the eeprom compare it to the eeprom on the other end of the cable? I connected 2 DAC cables through a docking board (QSFP28 <->QSFP28) and can't get a connection between NIC cards I don't understand what's wrong.

  • @10gtek
    @10gtek8 ай бұрын

    There is no relationship between the EEPROM of the DAC and the EEPROM of the network card. As long as your devices are of the same type and follow the Ethernet protocol standard, then they should work fine.

    Another question! Let's take the DAC cable and change the cable length in its EEPROM. For example, the cable was 1m, change this value to 2m. After such a change in the length value in the cable EEPROM, will communication between the two NICs work? Do you have the opportunity to try? @@10gtek

    @@10gtek Thank you for the reply. Much appreciated. Good to know you monitor and reply to comments. Perhaps the confusion arises because of a subtle difference between very similar English words? Compare is in the title, but you are NOT doing a compare. Just FYI "compare to Intel" is BAD English anyway. It's grammatically incorrect. I wonder if the word you meant to use in the title is "COMPARABLE" ("able to be likened to another; similar"). The word compatible (used in your reply) in this context means "works along side of" or "works in association with". It doesn't mean "is similar to" or doesn't mean "is a replacement for". If you were to say "the card is compatible WITH THE INTEL DRIVER SOFTWARE" - then that is the correct usage of compatible. If you use the word "compatible" you have to say what the subject is compatible with (in my example - Intel software). BTW I have seen your products on Amazon UK. I am looking for a dual RJ45 NIC 10Gbe card. I have found this product. My only concern is that this is an OLD chipset and not as fast as the newer X550, however the X550 dual channel is very expensive. So I am certainly considering purchasing your card. For clarity can your card use the Intel X540-T2 drivers? In other words is it COMPATIBLE with the Intel drivers? Or do I have to download your version of drivers from your own website?

    The card you have there is a fake knock off from China. It is not a real intel card, you can tell by the 2 black pins that hold the heat sink on. They are flat which is how you spot a fake. Also the word INTEL in white is missing from the front top right corner of the PCB, there is no Intel holographic sticker on the back of the PCB. Total fake and they usually fail after a month, if they work at all.
