I used to have a paralyzing fear of chainsaws, (I’ve screwed myself up with a lot less sophisticated equipment) as a builder I’ve cut trees down with a saws-all, more than few times over the years!!! In Maine a buddy got me a job driving a Timberjack 450D, (with me never having driven a skidder before) 12 hour shifts bouncing around in the thing everyday!!! A week in, we switched sites to a tract that hadn’t been cut, so a Jonsered 2049turbo got put into my hands and was instructed to start dropping trees!!! 90 cc’s of hang the f_ck on to it!!! The first 100 foot white pine (70 inches around) was my first, it hit the ground and lifted me a few inches in the air!!! I WAS HOOKED FOR LIFE, THE BEST (FUNEST) JOB I HAD EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!! Here we are 8 years later, and I’m still cutting and driving and turning wrenches, loving this new occupation!!! Hands down a job I look forward to everyday, (Maine winters can get 35 below zero and summers get over 100 degrees with 90 percent humidity) the saw is probably the lightest thing I touch all day, (other than my unit when taking a leak) I was no stranger to heavy, dirty, Hard Work!!! Building houses gets repedative, another square box, yay!!! But this job, felling trees, turning wrenches, operating 30-ton machinery, and building roads and bridges into our work area, is now a job I can see me doing for as long as I can, and loving the Challenges and the Dangers of my new occupation!!! Still a lot to learn, everything seems to weigh over 100 lbs (and wins every time you fight with it) but most days I’m smiling working with my buddies, (outside, joking around and making a living) AND I’M LOVING IT!!! I can see why generations before me did this job, one that becomes a multi-generational career for the tough MEN AND WOMEN THAT BATTLE NATURE DAILY , SO THAT YOU CAN LIVE IN WOODEN HOUSES AND WIPE YOUR @$$ES WITH TOILET PAPER, as well as all the other things we do each day thanks to them!!! Like I said, the best job I’ve ever had, and I love it, it will probably KILL ME, BUT AT LEAST I’LL GO OUT SMILING!!!

Have you ever considered milling up and stockpiling a few of the finer wood slabs, and marketing them to individual woodworkers that make tables and desks? With the YT marketing capabilities, this might add extra revenue to Logger Wade Enterprises. Love your videos!

I love all that different hardwoods used in that building!! Great video Wade! I learned something new today!! The other thing that was cool in those offices is the windows at roughly a 45° angle and the walls followed those angles so the sun light wouldn't be over baring!! This building was well thought out!! Kudos to the designers of this building! Alot of thought was put into this and it shows!!

Just ran a skidder for the first time today and I can die a happy man now! I remember this video when it came out when I was probably 10 or something haha!! Just thought I'd watch it again to see how you operate the grapple and all. The 525 I was running has so much power its incredible I cant imagine how a cranked up one would be. Hopefully one day I can run at full throttle like it's an extension of my body just like you do! Thanks a ton.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, and a special thank you for shouting out our outstanding Instructors and National Inspectors! They work very hard every single day to make sure our community has the skills and resources needed to grow and overcome challenges in the industry. Our HQ here in Memphis is filled with history from our beginnings 125 years ago, and we welcome everyone to stop by some day and take a tour to see the depth and beauty of North American hardwoods up close 😄
