I've been a follower of Wade from his first days on Facebook and you tube met him in person and I can attest that what you see is what you get in person he's a great person that learned his trade from the ground up so to speak he is very smart and helluva funny guy

Wade you got to give yourself more credit buddy. That looks like a very intense job sharpening those bands . Looks like your taking it in stride. My wife always tells me around the farm , " you can't expect yourself to do master everything at once ". Have a good one.

Wade that looks like a place where a man could get hurt real quick if he didn't know how to handle that stuff. I love the way you take care of your employees. Good job.

Hello Wade, my dad was one of the ole time band saw filers that retired back in the late 80's. As a young man, i spent a lot of time with him in the filing room and i can say that you do indeed have a good grip and understanding of whats going on with your saws, a whole lot more than i ever understood being my focus was on gang saws and chipper knives. Don't be so hard on yourself buddy, the world could use more men like you. Thanks for sharing. By the way, this is the first time that I have ever seen a leveling machine, the old timers hammered the saws on the bench.

I live in New Zealand, and in a younger life was doing exactly what this video covers. This was back in the late 90s, early 20s. We had a brand new sawmill, using all the saws - etc from a closed sawmill in Tasmania. We had a Huge Main saw, 10 ft wheels with 46.5 foot long 14" wide 14 gauge saw with 2" varied pitch teeth First resaw was a twin band saw unit, with 2 x 15 gauge 12" wide saws - can't remember their length These bandsaws were all on 15 degree lean so there was no need for a "turner-down" I was the saw filer there, on site when setting up the mill, and the saw shop. All the bands were swaged and shaped, and the main saw was sharpened on Armstrong No-6 grinder. The resaws on Armstrong No -4. I loved the work, but at my age, would not be able to keep up. Bandsaw filers are a dying breed. It’s a great trade! Should be pushed in schools more!

Wade spill the beans, we like seeing the inside workings in the mill, and all the behind the scenes action.

From 82 to 87 that's what I did for the pallet mill it had a 48 inch re-saw with a twin 24. chipper knives, de-barker knives, carbide gang saws and kant sizer heads. I knew what you were doing. Spent a lot of time on an Armstrong bench and grinder. This was a great video!!!

Great video Wade, being how I know nothing about the logging industry, I feel like I learn something every time I watch your video.

Loved seeing the filing room again! My dad filed saws for big lumber mills on the west coast during the 40's, 50s, 60's and 70's! The process now is very similar to what him and his dad did. A little automation but still a bunch of plain man power. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

I used to take care of 3 band saws ! A 12” double cut , and an 8” resaw and a 6” resaw ! Only automatic part was the grinding. Was a lot of fun ! It was the early 80s !

Seeing what it takes to sharpen, I'm glad we never used bands at our Mill. Our Sawyer always took care of his own blades xo my maintenance dept. never had to mess with sharpening. Nice job Tater.

Great video and keep up the amazing work. Looks like you are doing good. Just wanted to make a suggestion for you is on the leveler where you sit down and push the wheel out. Could you put a air cylinder in there and make it a little bit easier to make a adjustments.

Pretty interesting video , i had no idea all that was involved in a bandsaw .

Big Momma is looking well. Sounds like we are the same age but she looks a lot more spry . Maybe I need to do that reverse age thing. When I was young the old neighbor guy had a sharping shop in his back yard. He let me come over and watch. He taught me a lot but it helps me understand and appreciate what you are doing on a much larger scale.

Can't beat a Hanchett swage and the Armstrong shaper combo. Only thing I would say is I would give that shaper a little more "throw". As far as tension goes sometimes you have roll in the same spot just a little harder the second time around. Just don't make it a habit. Lol.

@@LoggerWade Yeah, master Welder, mechanic( As a mechanic, I can work on from a little Nitro engine. All the way up to helicopters and airplanes.) carpenter, electrician, just a few.

Man it’s hard managing. I started a managing role about 9 months ago and it’s been one heck of an adjustment. I’m struggling with it, my mind wants to just focus on grading and forget the rest but I’ve got to keep my eyes on everyone. Sawyers. Edger. Trim saw. Stackers. It’s something.

Your channel is great. Love the family business. Would a skidsteer load and sort those ties better? I run a skidsteer with forks on it all day loading bales of cardboard. Its surprising how quick a skidsteer can move/load and sort compared to a backhoe.

I learned to sharpen bands in the 80s with equipment from the early 30s. I was 18 years old

It depends usually in our current environment we destroy the body before its to skinny I've heard in the past 11" down to as low as 9

Your a person of many things I know what that's like wade life's hard now days you gotta be able to do anything put in front of you I growed up learning to work on cars I learned to shoe horses learned to weld I cut timber I been trimming trees and cutting trees around power lines for 10 yrs now also run equipment around power lines just alot of different things every day

Same profile for everything it's such a chore to grind in something different But you are probly exactly right if a guy kept a couple different saws for hard and soft.. My off the cuff thoughts though is we'd screw it up

That auto bench looks sharp. I work at a big pine mill in Mississippi. We still bench all our saws by hand. Pretty interesting to see a smaller mill like yours utilizing something like that. On a separate note, how do y’all handle froze logs in bands. I’m assuming you have to slow down a fair bit but I know nothing about a hardwood mill.

Ole Tator...Jack of All Trades! You may not have a clue but how much weight is lost on band between brand new and worn plum out? I would think they would just get lighter with each sharpening. Does it then change how they cut when they get some age on em and are lighter weight? Thanks for sharing and always good to see that Young Lady running around as well!!👍👍

Yes the body gets thinner from rolling and the front gets ground down. An old band is prolly 2/3s the weight of new
