Hi, my name is J C, and I am an urbanite who discusses EDC knives and gear for urban survival. In addition, I share my kits and adventures hiking and bushcrafting in Southeast Asian jungles. Earlier in my life, I spent almost ten years as a scout and then two and half years of military service in a combat vocation, with 10 more years in the combat reserves.
Professionally, I own a strategic management consultancy firm with offices in Singapore & Malaysia, and, prior to this, I have 20+ years of international experience in the entertainment and event industry. Much of my work included designing gear and equipment for show production.

Sog powerpint ftw
I rather prefer the individual tools
Ok. Thanks for your thoughts!
the Leatherman Skeletool is garbage the guy dosent look like he uses any of these
One of those things might be true.
How can you, man! You cleaned the much vaunted Pocketboy Outback with a toilet bowl brush! Grr...! I'm mad! 😡 Just kidding... 😁 Just received mine last night from Lamnia. Boy, am I stoked? Oh heck, yeah! Cheers...
That's a toilet brush? I use that to clean my teeth...
@@urbanknifeguy You're gross...! 😄 Cheers...
@@normanyacob4235 Enjoy your saw!
@@urbanknifeguy I will... Thanks and cheers...
For me, the best Leatherman is the signal.
Signal is great!
How about you review a tramontina machete? Hope hear from you soon
They tend to be longer than what I would like for a hiking/ bushcraft machete (from what is available here). But they are inexpensive. Maybe in the future. Thanks!
Love my two Skeletools! May I suggest adding the functionality of a hammer/striking tool? @kristenvanpatten3854 makes some really quality ones. I’ve put them on both of mine and they fit like they were made by Leatherman. Got mine on Etsy.
Yes I looked at those previously. But the cost to send one of those small items here costs more than the product so I did not pull the trigger. I will pick it up when a friend visits the US.
“Used in a pinch”
Nice upgrade. I thought it looked similar to the Para 3 in your other vid but I wasn't sure because I'd never seen one with black micarta scales before. This turned out nicely
Thanks and glad you liked it!
I like the skeletool, i have a few of them. As much knife as you'll generally need for my urban carry. The RX model has a really nice serrated sheepsfoot blade. If i was pairing it with another tool maybe a Victorinox compact. To give you a straight blade option and scissors ✂️ Great vid. Cheers 🍻
Thanks for your thoughts!
I enjoyed this video. Liked and subscribed. I'd like to ask you which Spyderco model you showed in this video. It looks really nice and I'd like to get some more details on it. You sold me on the Skeletool. Now I want one.
Glad you enjoyed it and welcome. The Spyderco is the Para 3 but with micarta scales swapped in. You can check out my video on it here kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4mqtNFrhrKcfLQ.htmlsi=b3rcPspS-EuCp3Zn
@@urbanknifeguy thanks. I'll check it out. 👍
I am not a fan of the Skeletool. Not enough tools. No can opener. No awl. No saw. No scissors. And it is too big and bulky for only having 3 tools.
Yeah I thought it would have more to it. Seems pretty basic for how popular it is.
It's an urban/suburban carry for me. I'm not likely to need those tools around town. For an outdoor multitool I carry a Rebar.
Well it potentially replaces 3 tools so save space and weight. And for urban EDC, it covers most needs for me. But let's see in a couple of months as I am EDCing now.
What is your alternative tool for having a knife, plier, 2 bits and smaller?
@@onur0653 his answer will be the Swiss Champ 🤣
Hey great video however it is worth pointing out that it does have tweezers. The head is tucked on the outside face on the other side of the pocket clip under the left pivot screw.
are you sure? don't see it on mine.
Haha you made me look
skeletool + swiss card best combo. could also use a victorinox signature instead of swiss card
Thanks for your comment!
I like the skelitool and the swiss card- need to be on my wish list
Yes I think you will like the Swiss card!
The Skeletool CX is one of my go to EDC knives.
Thanks for sharing!
Get real! 😂😂😂
A pozi drive bit would have been better.
Is a pozidrive and flat head bit combo available?
@@urbanknifeguy to be honest I don't know. I tend to stick away from anything that has its own ecosystem.
@@ifell3 OK thanks!
For me the best urban edc tool from Leatherman was the Juice S2. Sadly they discontinued it.
Sadly!
I have the original CX since 2008, with partially serrated blade. It was my only tool/knife for a number of years. Once I settled down in my own place, the EDC tool craze started for me.
Nice! Thanks for sharing!
@@urbanknifeguywhat tool do you catch yourself carrying the most?
Nice video. It's worth noting that the CX also has an upgraded blade steel. A couple suggestions for a 2nd bit to carry if you're using the phillips/slotted combo bit: (1) The glass breaker / 1/4" slotted combo bit, which would add the glass breaker to the setup in the video without adding anything superfluous; (2) The #0/#3 phillips bit - with this and the #1/#2 combo bit you'll be able to handle just about any Phillips screw; (3) If you're a cyclist, the 4mm / 5mm hex bit is great because those are the most common drivers for screws on bicycles, (4) The Volty switch digital multimeter bit if you're into electrical/electronics work.
Thanks for watching! Yes, I mentioned the 154cm steel over the standard 420HC. Thanks for the great suggestions for the 2nd bit. I will look into them!
@@urbanknifeguy I'm sorry, you did mention the steel upgrade.
@@kevincrawford6243 No worries! Thanks for your suggestions again.
Made in Pakistan? No, thanks tho....
Victorinox Waiter is an Amazing first SAK
👍👍
The 154cm model is made of stainless steel, but I've heard that it rusts easily. Is any care required?
Technically it should not rust easily. I have no problem with it but I do not have problem with any of my Knives, even carbon steel. As each time I come back from the field, I clean, scrub, dry, oil and strop my knives. In the field, just wipe it dry if it gets wet. If you are outfield for extended periods like weeks, then bring a small bottle of oil.
Is it a good idea to remove the handle periodically to clean it?
@@user-wb7yj3wk6o Yes, it is a good idea.
@@urbanknifeguy Thank you, from humid Japan.
@user-wb7yj3wk6o Similar to our environment here but at least you have seasons!
This is another guy that doesn’t go out in the woods. Not even his back yard. Look at his knives. Not used at all. No marks on his knives. Looks like he just bought these! He is not that educated.
Indeed. No woods in this part of the world. And no backyard too.
I like the super tinker for urban edc
Good choice!
You need to do more of this!!
Ok. Will do!
I think that the Signal and maybe the Skeletool are essentially just toys. The latter might be a decent starter tool for a pre-teen, but that's about it.
Interesting thoughts. Which of the Leathermans do you think are not toys?
@@urbanknifeguy The Wave, Surge, and Charge, for sure. The Free series almost makes the cut, but they suffer from some serious design flaws. Think file and ruler.
@@michaelcolloton6971 OK thanks for your input!
13:54 curious, what religion dictates you carry a knife in your pocket without a pouch?
I went back to watch as I could not remember. And it most likely is UKGology created by Urban Knife Guy. But not everyone adopts it and it may not be widely recognised yet.
@@urbanknifeguy uh checking, are you replying to me? "UKGology created by Urban Knife Guy" If yes, then it sounds like the religion is called "UKGology" and created by Urban Knife Guy. but aren't you Urban Knife Guy?
@@RocZi yup
@@urbanknifeguy so what is UKGology religion?
@@RocZi unfortunately, it is difficult to reply in a comment. It is anything and everything, yet is nothing.
Super Tinker.
👍👍
And a Rambler lives permanently on my keychain.

I mean they look nice, but idk how I feel about an assortment of tiny tools that is unecessarily made out of titanium. Kinda odd combination too, at what point would you need a survival flute and the worlds smallest spirit level?
A large Pre-threaded Sail Needle and Clear Glue Stick would increase the versatility of your kit. Also a small container of a Cleaning, Lubricating & Protecting Fluid, like the ones used for weapon maintenance, would be very useful since your kit leans towards Mechanical Repairs.
Great ideas! Thanks for the suggestions!
You’re very welcome! I hope you add them to your kit. A toothbrush and a Brass Wire Brush on the opposite end could also bail you out. Last good idea is to put Baking Soda into a straw and heat seal both ends.
You can use the wire stripper (little groove near the bottle opener) instead of spoiling the tweezers. It works in a single shot
Yes thanks!
Interestiing. Which jungle you guys ventured to? Would love to see this in a longer/detailed format showcasing the tools and how those are was used in the tropical jungle. Thanks
Bukit Kiara, KL. Not sure if there is big interest in the long-form format. But, I'll do one tet video in the near future. Thanks!
Great video. I enjoyed seeing the countryside. Thank you.
Thanks for watching
i wonder how long it took to set up everything. pretty sure everything was pretty quick, right?🤔
We took our time and filmed content in between. We probably spent about 5 hours out in total, including hiking in and out of the jungle. But honestly, a lot of time was spent looking for my buddy's gear which he kept misplacing and leaving all over the place.
@@urbanknifeguy😂😂😂
I carry and Alex cadet daily and in my backpack I daily carry a farmer.
Nice! Thanks for sharing.
Great to see the similarities in gear selection. Cheers 🍻
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks!
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
My Mora Companion in 12c27n and Sencut Phantara in 9cr18mov for general hikes in the woods 👍🏾
First time I have seen a Sencut mentioned. Nice! Thanks!
@urbanknifeguy 9cr18mov is easy to re-sharpen out and about, and the Phantara has a broad, lead-shaped blade that is very useful.
set for adventure
Indeed!
Говнище же... из отходов.
Great vid! Yeah no reason for a glowing compass at night. If I was outdoors and the sunset… I’d probably camp and conserve flashlights. Use the compass when I woke up.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
In the jungle, you can't remember your name!
I can't remember a lot of things in the jungle.
Another great video! With knives this large, have you considered the Ruike LD series? They are 114mm long. The LD42B adds a couple of tools to the Forester, including scissors and a rope cutter. There is no can opener, but the awl is in line and it has tweezers in the scales. It's a bit heavier with the extra tools and length.
Thanks! No, I do own any Ruike knives. I will check that one out!
SOG Synch and SwissCard would work great. As would a 58mm SAK. Also LeverGear Edge XT.
Thanks for the suggestions!
фильм "Cast Away" смотрел? вот там герой был бы очень рад обнаружить пассатижи, когда у него заболел зуб 😬
😝
Save you the trouble, even the tiny knife u get in a swisscard is verboten in Singapore.
That is not true! 🤣
Uh huh, i got that straight from the boys in blue.
@@jessicaregina1956 I think there is a bit of nuance to it as I discuss in the video. By law, it is legal.
I actually asked one of them, plus ive been jacked up for carrying..... So yeah i think i know what im talking bout.
This is a place where water guns and keychains shaped like guns get their attention, buddy.
What's this fucking disturbing noise in the background, godamm
It's the jungle. I'll tell the bugs and critters to keep it down next time.
