Stealthyshiroean Humble Reviews

Stealthyshiroean Humble Reviews

Hello, stealthyshiroean here and welcome to my channel where I produce devlogs of my game dev journey with Unity. These act as markers for me to see my progress, but I hope people can find enjoyment with them and maybe even bits of motivation and inspiration for their own projects.

Also, on this channel, I do monthly reviews of Humble Choice, which is a gaming subscription service where you receive a set number of games each month. I play each game for an hour and then give you my thoughts on them and whether or not I think they're worth your time.

Anyway, I hope that my content can help you in some small way. Thanks for stopping by and have a nice day!

    With how expensive the Marvel license is, if that game didn't sell truckloads of copies then it might never get a sequel. It looks quite interesting, but maybe the people into Xcom and Marvel are two different crowds altogether ?

  • @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews
    @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews4 күн бұрын

    Yeah, I think the game released at a time when Marvel's popularity was a bit in a slump. The recent phase of Marvel movies have been hit or miss from what I hear (mostly miss). Guessing people didn't see that coming when Midnight Suns was originally pitched for development. And yeah, you may be right. I think fans of XCOM might not have cared for MIdnight Suns though mainly because it does differ a lot from what people would have originally expected as a turn-based tactics game from Firaxis.

    @@StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews XCOM fans didn't particularly like the card system if I remember well, I saw a lot of negative press due to that, it probably didn't help the game to sell well. The game is also a tactical, which isn't often what kids/teenager nowadays prefer so it might have reduced the potential buyers as well. Those are in my opinions the two biggest targets for that game and it probably failed to please both. Which now leave them with a license that probably ask them to sell at minimum of 5 millions copies to make a profit due to how Marvel's licensing is awfully expensive (we saw that with the Insomniac leak). And I can see why that game failed, but honestly as a player I do not like logic like this because if we only thought this way we'd only get the same shit served every years and eating the same dish everyday get old really quickly. Let's appreciate Firaxis for "taking a risk" You might be right with the movies, a few other Marvel games did badly recently (I think of Marvel Avengers and that other one that Square Enix did that I do not remember the name of.) I'm curious to see if Xbox can make Blade a success but since it's the dishonored team working on it, it should be doing okay. I'm also wondering if Wolverine & Blade will have gore that could make those games PEGI 18 like dismemberment or blood ? or if they will stick to being kid friendly. It would be a mistake in my opinion to not make Wolverine/Blade sever limbs from their enemies.

    I forgot about the Blade game. I also want to see more of that one Captain America game with Black Panther they showed an announcement trailer for some time back. But you're right. Firaxis experimenting should definitely be commended. There's really not enough of that in AAA space these days because publishers all want to play it safe for their financial numbers.

    Yeah, it's weird how that played out. So many people gave the game solid reviews...yet it underperformed in sales. And the delve into Italian lore piqued my interest as well. Unfortunately, I don't think too many people care if it's someone first game or not though. That being said, I get it. If a game isn't fun then it's just not fun. Doesn't really matter the price point or the experience of the devs. Luckily though, I think this game will be good from what I played.

    Feels like a pretty interesting game but much too niche to have a big marketing budget. I actually like it from what I'm seeing, it's pretty surprising that a company as big as Capcom does something so unique nowadays, but I'm afraid it might not sell very well as I didn't hear anything about it from anybody and games on console sell mostly on hype.

    I brought this game awhile ago and I still haven’t gotten around to playing it I mean I think you guys are like Christmas? Sadly I suffer from crippling depression so that really eats into my motivation to play games by the time I’m done looking after my mum each day but I wouldn’t have it any other way, at least if I’m looking after her I know she is safe. So I’ve been a long time supporter of the SCP stuff and it bugs me that almost every game about SCPs is a free to play FPS so when I saw this I was really interested also there was another game that showed up as a demo during one of the steamfests but it’s vanished from my steam wish list I can only assume that it’s been picked up by a studio and they made the dev cut all the SCP stuff because of the open licence that SCP stuff has. basically when you make an SCP you agree to an open license that lets you use any of the other SCP stuff but it also allows for anyone else to come along and use the stuff you made, it’s a cool system they built but it’s not something a money grubbing studio would allow. I haven’t been able to find it again it was the one with the Hand coming out of a bucket of “”blood”” most likely the water from the red lake that keeps spawning monster. The game started with you driving up to a house anomalous stuff happens then you find out the house is fake and is on some kind of sound stage and basically lots of different SCPs have all been brought into this one house ends demo. Just in case anyone can remember it or knows what happened to it?

    Hey, first off, I'm sorry to hear about your depression. Hope that you've found the right help to take care of yourself. But it's commendable you looking after your mom! Anyway, as far as SCP goes, I tried looking around for that game on Steam but was really surprised - there's a lot of SCP games! And I think maybe you might find some interesting. Not all of them were FPS games. I'm not really familiar with SCP. Came across it in the past...probably the one that sticks in memory was when that simple game came out about the endless staircase. But definitely open to seeing more SCP-related games in the future.

    @@StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews so I found the name of the demo I was talking about, it’s “go home Annie” As for others it’s been a while since I looked so maybe I’m just not seeing them but if you think about it there are so meny SCP adjacent games stuff that you could really call SCPs I mean I remember back when I first played the myths games (I played riven firsts) they were amazing to me back them as they just felt so creepy and wondrous at the same time (I think the creepy part was how empty the settings were) and more recently stuff like the room games (I mean the puzzle in the second game were the model ship is also the ship your sailing on) I’m rambling now 😅.

Figment 2 seemed fun enough and owning the first so it was wishlist. Zoeti, well, you know me by now, wishlist. Sticky business, it's business but it's not sticky for me. Ignored already. Starship I had briefly heard about, seems decent enough to try and I love rts games. Ghostrunners 2, same as figment 2, wishlist. And plague 2... same yeah, wishlist. Honestly it's a fantastic month for me, and even if you consider the 3! sequels to be cheating for the wishlist, that's still 2 more wishlist games I got. That's quite controversial, very interesting. For me, this was a relief after last month which I felt was enough of a letdown to skip. I did beat the original Ghostrunner, pretty good game. If I had decided to get the sequel on Steam it would have cost about the same as a month of Humble Choice. I'd agree that half of this month's games are disappointing, but I think that in general people have a tendency to buy bundles primarily for the sake of one or two titles. Those who are interested in Ghostrunner 2 and A Plague Tale: Requiem should absolutely get this, even just for them alone. Otherwise maybe it's best to skip.

    The biggest problem of this bundle is that it has two sequels as headliners and I simply didn't have the time to play both first titles yet. Starship Trooper, Zoeti and Sticky Business seem all fine enough with interesting ideas but they do not tickle my interest that much either. As for Figment, I own the first game and I can definitely tell that this one isn't for me at all. That leaves us with HYPERVIOLENT and Heretik's Fork that I found both actually quite interesting but that won't make me purchase the month for unfortunately. - Hyperviolent seem to have some RPG mechanics in it and I tend to like that a lot and downtime in a FPS is something I do not mind at all, I actually prefer it. - As for Heretik's Fork it does indeed seem to be kind of an idle game about analyzing what happen on the screen to properly build but I think it can be fun for an evening where you feel lazy. On a side note, I think that the way you cut enemies in Ghostrunner 2 is sick, I appreciate gore in games, I wish there was more. Happy late birthday to you and thanks for the video!

    I actually think the game looks quite pretty, I appreciate the pixel art and the fact there is a lot of creatures and less humanoids than usual looks really cool. What I struggle more with though is simply that it is another roguelite. It is a genre that I struggle to appreciate and I believe when you struggle to appreciate a genre it's best to either not play games of that genre, or only play those considered the very best. That game does seem good enough but what I've seen wouldn't make me play it. But those games are probably more aimed toward roguelite fans to begin with. Thanks for the video!

    No problem! Glad it could help a bit. And I more or less agree with what you said. I've found through constant playing rogue-lites in Humble that they just aren't my style of game besides the best of the best. And even then, I think that I bounce from a roguelite pretty quick. I keep trying to like them because on paper they usually sound pretty good to me, but in practice, obviously not.

    Yeah, I think it definitely can be. Especially if you have patience for it. I'm fairly certain the devs can turn this around because it's already a good foundation albeit with some rough edges. Also, a side note, but it does seem like this game might have a good chance of being in a Humble Choice in the future as many of this publisher's games have made it into Humble Choice over the years. So, if you're not in any hurry to play it, I'm fairly certain you can bide your time and it will pop up eventually!

    The game for sure looks pretty but I can clearly see that it's not the kind of game I'd actually enjoy. To begin with it reminds me too much of visual novels and it's a genre that I've rarely ever enjoyed so it doesn't help the game in this regard, luckily for me in the end that game is from one of the few bundles I've skipped.

    Yeah, it's a straightforward story for the most part with little else when it comes to gameplay. Definitely wasn't what I expected going in but obviously I liked it nevertheless. Hmm, that's a good question. I'm assuming you mean the games that are largely narrative-focused with little else for gameplay. I don't usually play these kinds of games actually. I remember liking the first Walking Dead game but I never played the subsequent seasons. I really enjoyed The Wolf Among Us. I think more recently the games I played that sorta are like this would be Little Hope and House of Ashes from The Dark Pictures Anthology. Basically...can't say I really have a favorite, which is a bit of a cop out but I just don't play enough of them to really have any of them stand out in my mind.

    Miasma Chronicles takes a little while to get going, but it's a fantastic tactical RPG you'll find, apart from lore in the world which isn't exciting at all. Stray gods piques my interest the most, a unique game where 95% of the budget is in a fully orchestrated soundtrack. Would be a fun one off experience. i actually attended the orchestra debuting the soundtrack for this one but was yet to pick it up so happy to see it on Humble Bundle

    Pity to hear that the world's lore isn't that great in Miasma. I could still see myself giving it another go. Definitely happy to see Stray Gods on Humble. Indie games that try something new like this are usually worth spotlighting even if it's just for the uniqueness of it in my opinion.

    I can understand that. It's been a while since I touched the game, but I think I do remember having a hard time to track the action at times. Especially in that final boss fight. Raji is just arround 15 millimeters on my 21" monitor .... that's just too small, 30 millimeters would be much better if they would keep the perspective and they would give the players an option to zoom in.

    From what I hear, I'd put 2kdrive down to weak... I'm sure it's fun but I hear it's very pay 2 win/ play so I believe much of what I'd like in the game can be found in a demo-sized chunk. I wouldn't pay much for a game like that (I could be wrong ofc but impressions have to be based on hearsay- and I'm not much of a racer fan). Jury's still out on Miasma for me though. Might just be a skip. Feels like by the time I get to these games I could easily buy them for 12 bucks anyway so... I just have a GIGANTIC backlog so I unfortunately, take that into account when looking at these bundles :/.

  • @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews

    Nah, that makes sense. There's got to be something (or multiple somethings) that is really special to merit a bundle purchase. Otherwise, the library has a hundreds of other games to choose from (literally in my case lol...). And yeah, I've heard the same with 2K Drive which that's unfortunate. I guess I'd probably just play it with my daughter and when we start hitting pay walls...well, time to uninstall and move on to something else.

    I am not a big fan of survival but the fact you can have NPCs helping you doing random duties is something I find really cool. As for the character creator I personally do not mind if they are very limited but those NPCs really looked goofy they probably should fix those. I'll keep an eye on that one if it's a blend of survival with management I might like it.

    Yeah, I can only really play them with my wife, but I could see this as something I might be able to play by myself (probably wouldn't but maybe). Because of the villagers but also because I don't mind that the structures are premade assets that you just assemble in stages. I'm not super creative when it comes to building things so the premade structures don't really bother me.

    Hmm, well, I purposely tried to stay away from the Valheim comparisons because I didn't feel that it was like Valheim. Haha, maybe the answer is simply just yes. But I really would say no in the end because I felt that Valheim had enough different things in their formula that sets it apart.

    The game's crafting looks interesting but I wonder what the long term goals are?

  • @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews
    @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviewsАй бұрын

    Hmm, that's a good question. Judging from what I played and from their Steam page, I'd say that building a large village would be one potential end goal. Every so often the village can get raided and you'll need to defend it. So, it might be like in Rimworld where you need to constantly up the defenses because the raids get more difficult as the game progresses. Also, I'd imagine there might be boss-type monsters to fight that would require a good bit of preparation and appropriately equipped villagers. There was a dock building to make as well so I wonder if exploring other lands (like in Valheim) might be one other thing. The screenshots do suggest other potential biomes with, presumably, greater threats and new resource types to gather to improve your gear and village. If you mean some overarching goal to wrap everything up...well, not sure if that exists or not. I think many survival games don't have this or if they do the goal is so nebulous and far away that most players never really actively work towards it anyway and just end up playing the game. Whether they do that or not is based on how the progression is structured and if it leads the player in that direction.
