I usually over pay and under sell. It’s always the other guy that finds the Faberge egg in a barn and gets it for peanuts, or sells a pile of manure for a kings ransom. I’ve stopped telling people what I pay for “my toys”. This makes my brother furious as he is “one of those guys “. Most of the time people throw out big numbers just to try to impress, and it’s anyone’s guess if those numbers are even real. Great buying tips. Much of this advice applies to many other vehicles as well.👌

There is barely anyone left that will core the radiator..I saw your dude in Modesto.. sad that the concord guy closed down.. they used to have every tool shop you could ever need in concord.. they even had a vow bug shop.. they would restore bugs.. they’re gone:(

I have a dumb question. I have a 33 ford and the radiator hoses are very dry and one of these days, they will go off. I looked under the radiator for a petcock drain and I don’t see one there however. On the sides of my engine block there are petcock drain on both sides. Is that where I drain my coolant for a flathead V8? Thank you 😊

I'm not a V8 expert, but I believe so. The V8 has two lower hoses (two water pumps also) and I believe those are where you drain.

I just had an issue with my modern 2005 F250 with a water leak. I first thought it was the reservoir burping out again and it turned out the top hose's clamp was loose. Whew, that was a relief, after having the thermostat changed out, someone forgot to tighten up the clamp. Anyways some more great advice, thanks Paul, have a Blessed weekend and Happy Fathers Day!

Are the modern worm type hose clamps better at sealing off the radiator hoses than the original style hose clamp that left the factory? Breeze company makes hose clamps with a hex head drive. Stainless band and stainless screw. Used in aircraft industry.

As my grip strength wains I find it advantageous to use more tools. I use a pair of channel lock pliers to grab the hose at the attachment point and rotate it slightly to break it free. Of course if you have gorilla grip hands that I lack...pliers may be optional. I use the ABC's to look at rubber items. A: abrasions abnormal B: bruises bulges C: cuts cracks cords When in doubt, toss it out! Get a new one! Short but sweet, Paul. Catch ya on the flip side. Oh, a person born in 33 would be 45 in 78. 😊

Soft bearings are looking for sand, to capture and lathe down the harder crankshaft. You must keep your oil clean. A careless oil change can introduce a lot of sand to a motor. Crankshafts can be plasma sprayed and machined, but few shops have the tools and skill to renew a crank. Cylinders can be renewed with nickel plating, but chromium is dangerous.a Renault NN pleasure chassis motor has a one piece lead bearing. There's no split.

Old John Deere two cylinders had all fuels, start on gas, get the heat up and switch to diesel. Be sure to switch back to gasoline before you shut it off.

If you know someone who can program pagers, you can request them to program the same frequency and cap code as your previous unit. I have 2 of the same pagers programmed the same. If both of them are on and I get paged, they both go off. I keep one of them at home as a spare.

True. I remember pagers being pretty popular even when cellphones were coming in to the market pretty heavily. Because cellphone minutes were expensive, a lot of people with pagers would give out the pager number and pick & choose who to call back from the cellphone. Other calls would wait until near a land phone.
