About 125 cm. We say 122 cm but that is a bit lower pitch (which I prefer). If you're doing fixed length, I would do about 125 cm and then angle them if they're a bit too long.

Just got it in the mail and you have no idea how STOKED I am to see some of these updates! So happy that you guys decided to update the shoulder straps and hip belt/hip belt pockets to be similar to this Wapta design!!! Those were my only complaints about the Kakwa, but certainly wasn’t a deal breaker (Obviously, since I bought another one lol). I feel like these will provide more comfort without those harder black edges that were on the previous models. The hip belt also seems taller and the pockets are certainly bigger. I had no idea these updates were going to be on here, so this was such a pleasant surprise. Anyway, just wanted to share my appreciation and love for your products man. @@durstongear Ok, actually now that I have loaded the pack up and have been wearing it around the house, I do have a slight bit of feedback… I’m going to try my best to articulate this lol Even though the hip belt pockets are larger, the hip belt has trouble curving around my hips when they are full and it causes uneven pressure on my hips. The pockets really aren’t as big as they look because the middle of the pocket kinda collapses into itself when the hip belt bends. Items that don’t conform to the body easily will end up forcing the hip belt straight, instead of letting it curve around the body. My Kakwa 40 was similar, but it might make it seem more dramatic to me now, since they are bigger. I can still fit more than the Kakwa 40 I was using and I don’t usually load the pockets full anyway, so it really is a non issue for me, but I was pumped when I first saw the updated pockets and thought I might be able to ditch my fanny pack with how big they looked. It seemed to work until I put the pack on, then they just ended up being way too tight unfortunately. I thought it would really help to maybe expand the front and back sides of the pockets outward and have the ultra fabric between the zipper and the padded part of the hip belt, taper in the middle, so that it allows the hip belt to naturally curve around the hips without distorting the zipper or shape of the pocket as much, if that makes sense. Lol Maybe even keep the outer part of the pocket flat, so battery banks and phones wont distort the pocket at all when tightened around the body. So basically make them similar to a skateboard halfpipe on its side and instead of a perfect box shape, make it so the natural shape of the inside of the pocket is concave and curves with the hip belt more. I don’t know. I’m not sure if anyone else is having the same issue or if it is just my body type or what (I’m very thin), but I just know you like feedback and thought that would work well and possibly be a relatively easy update for future iterations. All that said, I am still so stoked for this pack/upgrades and even though the new pockets weren’t as perfect as I thought, they are still better than the old, so I have no real complaints, just constructive criticism! I can’t wait to get it on the trail! Thanks again, Dan! Cheers! - Steve
@durstongear15 күн бұрын
@@ManivanAdventures Thanks for the feedback Steve. Shaping the pockets around a curve is tricky partly because it's complicated to construct and partly because everyone's hips have a different curve. The new pockets have more depth to them than the old ones, so they can better keep space around a curving hip, but certainly they do still lose space. I don't have an easy fix for this, but I think these new pockets are quite good while still being able to operate one handed (most even larger pockets get harder to operate) but also I will continue to tinker and likely continue to improve over the coming years. - Dan
@ManivanAdventures15 күн бұрын
@@durstongear Totally understandable and I definitely agree that the pockets are quite good! Honestly just nitpicking at this point, but I thought it was a good idea worth mentioning, since the pockets are concave on my REI Flash 55 pack and I can stuff those completely full of snacks without affecting the hip belt at all. It has a more rigid belt, but still. Good point about the zippers though. I struggle a bit more with the Flash 55 zippers one handed, but the pockets do fit on the pack more loosely. I’m sure my thin frame exaggerates it more, but I feel like everyone is going to have at least some curve there, so if you can figure it out, it might be beneficial to add some concavity, even if just a little bit, to help create a bit more usable space. Just some thoughts! Looking forward to what comes next! I’ve gotta pick me up some of those new poles at some point! 🤙🏼

I've just purchased this tent I think its fantastic, the space for 1 person is amazing and the thought process that has gone into it and the small details are amazing. I really love the dark green it feels extremely stealthy how a tent should be The only issue I am having is when I pitch it I keep on getting a corner that will just give way when I put my 2nd pole in. The cord on the one of the corners will just come completely loose and I have to re adjust and retighten the corner/tensioner where the peg is, when im doing the rectangle im getting it pretty nailed on everytime, im not over tauting(it could be tighter) I thought I might be having my poles to high so I've lowered them to 117.5cm. Any help of what im doing wrong would be great. FYI i've been pitching it in my backgarden where its on a very tiny slight slope.

@durstongear19 күн бұрын
@@baldywildcamper I would first make sure the cord is not routed backwards. That is most likely the problem. Compare it to the other corners. If the cord is installed correctly and still slips, the Ironwire will be an improvement because it is thicker. So yes you could put some of that here.

Straight out along the ridge is fine, but its a little better to angle it towards the door side a bit because the peak is less supported from that side. So anywhere from directly out along the ridge to the corner of the fly is good.

Why does Durston present their tents as if the required 'hiking sticks/poles' are incorporated, in weight & cost, when they are not? It is a good tent but only works if you also have a pair of 'hiking poles' (most of us don't) & the necessary pegs. Therefore you buy the tent, it arrives, & you cannot assemble it. You then have to source & buy a pair of hiking sticks & a set of pegs. Strangely, Durston avoid telling you these salient facts. Add the not inconsiderable weight & cost, I estimate a minumum1 kilo/2lb, US/E40.. Only then you have a tent.
@durstongear22 күн бұрын
Certainly you do need trekking poles for a trekking pole tent. We don't include these with the tent because many people already own them and/or prefer a specific model. We don't want to force people to buy a certain pole to get the tent. Are you seeing somewhere where we suggest the poles are included? I don't think we do that, but if we do unintentionally imply that let me know and we can update it. Regarding the weight, there are a many ways of looking at this. For someone already using hiking poles, then those are already present so the tent adds just the weight of the tent. Other people might bring folding poles to use instead of trekking poles. Other people would only start using trekking poles to use the tent so then the switch does add the weight of the tent and poles. Trekking poles vary widely in weight and there are so many different scenarios that we couldn't possible provide an accurate weight that includes everyones poles. Instead, we provide an itemized list of the various tent parts and what they weigh and then people can add things up as they wish. We do provide the weight of the stakes in our specs and provide a 'typical setup' weight that includes those. That does not include the trekking poles because most people have already listed that weight as their trekking poles and it wouldn't be accurate to list them twice. For the total weight, our lightest tent is 440g and then with stakes and stuff sacks is about 500g (or 800g if you want to include your trekking poles). Our heaviest model would be about 600g more. So it is a wide spectrum and we provide all of this info in the specs and people can add up it for their use case.

Hi Dan, got your tent nearly nearly a year ago and it's finally off to the races in Norway, where I'll be hiking in rough high terrain, likely with strong winds. My prior tent was a Chinese silnylon knockoff of the Solomid, which performed super well in strong winds but was just too small and uncomfortable for me to enjoy sleeping there. I used Skurka's guyline system with nearly 1 meter lines in all the four corners to get around barriers and use heavy rocks or logs as tie points (and 2X2.5 meter guys on the peak). I am wondering what you recommend a specialist mod for the Xmid1 solid to improve flexibility and storm worthiness? I can use the line locks that came with your tent but I am would think that regular knots would do better in high winds and also like the flexibility that long guys lines provide for tying to objects (in the Solomid it also gave me flexibility to tie the tent either higher or lower to the ground to increase/decrease airflow so I imagine this applies here too). Thanks so much for any direction and guidance. Super excited to use and enjoy your tent! :)
@durstongear16 күн бұрын
I like to keep the original cords and then use a 'girth hitch' to add on extensions when needed. That way I'm not packing up longer cords that tangle every time. I do like Skurka's system. I use that for the sides and peaks sometimes, although the tensioners are handy too. Then at the corners I only add extensions when needed.

Yeah they are packed separate to start. You would set up the fly like shown in the video, and then the inner tent gets laid out on the diagonal between the two poles and then clips into place. For the groundsheet, the key thing is that you put the logo side up. Like that, it'll be the same shape as the floor.

That would be nice to do. Maybe I can get to that. A good approach if you want removable lines is to add small loops of cord to the peak and side guyouts, and then attach/detach the LineLoc Hook tensioners to add/remove the cords. If you want them permanently attached, you can tie the cords on and use the provided tensioners.

@durstongearАй бұрын
No that it is too long. You want to stake out the base, snug that up tight and then extend the poles until the fly is tight. Usually the pole will end up at 115 -122 cm (depending on the model). Cheers! - Steve
- Dan
Still getting a handle on not pitching floppy (really should've downloaded this video on my phone ahead of time 😂), but the Further variation came in absolutely clutch in the heat over the weekend.
Glad you're liking the tent. The cord could be misrouted. Is this all the tensioners? Or some? If you send us an email to [email protected] we can send out some of our Ironwire premium cord that is a bit thicker and holds better.
@@durstongear @durstongear I put it up 3 times today and 2ce the corner come out so I just readjusted it, but it is giving me a bit of anxiety as I'm i'm now starting to think to myself is it going pull out or not when I put that 2nd pole in. I am going to mark up the corner when it does it again then re pitch it and see if it is the same corner doing it. I purchased some ironwire when I bought the tent for the side guy lines is this the cord you are talking about?? Thanks
@@baldywildcamper I would first make sure the cord is not routed backwards. That is most likely the problem. Compare it to the other corners. If the cord is installed correctly and still slips, the Ironwire will be an improvement because it is thicker. So yes you could put some of that here.
So the ridgeline guy outs stay in line with the peak line? Sorry to ask a stupid question, just haven't found a straightforward answer!
@@durstongear Always suspected something was wrong in my world. I grew up, studied, did various sports, got a career but never obtained trekking poles.
🥰 what a brand representative👌not only the product, the crafter himself unique
Thanks Thomas! - Dan
👍🐿👍 Happy happy 4th of July.
This tent fucking sucks i can't even set the thing up it's irritating me get the z packs instead this company sucks
I'd order one today if it was in a darker color (dark green or brown). It's sadly not as discreet as I'd like for UK wildcamping. (Also mildly concerns me the pole tips going up in case of clumsiness/wind when pitching. I'd feel much happier if handles went up). Otherwise looks a cracking tent!!
We have the 'Solid' version that is more intended for UK/Europe and it is a darker green color. There are also adapters if you want to pitch handles up.
Thanks. Just got mine today. Glacier Lake booked.
Awesome! I gotta get to Glacier Lake.
this is all great except your tents don’t come packed as you have your example tent is laid out. the inner doesn’t come already oriented inside the fly and no explanation of of the ground cover. you know how it all works but it is not as intuitive for others because its not their design. just a thought. i do love the tent.
Yeah they are packed separate to start. You would set up the fly like shown in the video, and then the inner tent gets laid out on the diagonal between the two poles and then clips into place. For the groundsheet, the key thing is that you put the logo side up. Like that, it'll be the same shape as the floor.
Great presentation, Dan. Is there any shop in Europe/Germany that I can buy this online?
We have several shops in Europe including Outdoorline, Pod7kilo, ValleyandPeak, Fjallsport and a few others. We also ship to Europe for a low cost which tents to work out less expensive. There is tax upon arrival but it is the same taxes that are included in a higher price when sold within Europe.
These poles are so light it’s remarkable. Truly feels weightless
Thanks! Glad you're liking them.
How are the new poles?!?!?
I really really want this pack but it won't ship to my country :(
We aim to ship to all countries. Where are you located? The only spots we can't ship right now are Russia and a few very rare spots.
Hey thanks for the reply. I live in Mongolia. Only international shipping service we have is DHL.
@@amraa23 You may have to use a freight forwarder. There are companies like MyUS.com where you ship it to them, and they can use any method to ship to you.
Please make a quick video that highlights with specifics (best knots and exact guyline lengths) how to add the guylines and triangular "clips" that came with X MID Pro to the peak and the sides. I can't find a demo of how to do this anywhere. Mostly see people reference the Skurka video or demonstrate DIY mods with cord they bought elsewhere such as Zing it cord. Thanks. Tadpole
Are they selling this tent on Amazon too? Because I found an offer but I'm not sure if it's real
They were briefly on Amazon a few years ago, so the listing still exists and might even let you try to buy, but they don't have any and will end up cancelling the order. - Dan
The best way I’ve found to get a good rectangle is to start by staking opposite corners, then it’s easy to stake the others.
Can you pitch the x-mid tent with fixed 130 cm poles?
No that it is too long. You want to stake out the base, snug that up tight and then extend the poles until the fly is tight. Usually the pole will end up at 115 -122 cm (depending on the model). If the poles are a bit long you can angle them, but 130 cm is too much. We recommend adjustable poles so you can fine tune the height.
looks cold
We have a solid interior version if you want a warmer tent.
how strong is the fabric compared to a Ecopak EPLX 200 or even an cordura material? Durability is a big concern for me, when spending so much money for a backpack (that I've to import to Germany)
It's super strong for a light fabric. It can be damaged of course, but is stronger by far than EPLX200 and most versions of Cordura.
Check out Atoms Packs in the U.K. and safe on import fees?
@@ryanb3908 The fees from them may be included in the price instead of charged separately,, but either way the same fees would be paid. The difference is just whether it's a lower price with tax separate, or a higher price with tax included.
Anyone else just want one of these?
Just got mine in the mail, and I love the design. Only thing I would add would be Komperdell baskets and bumper tips that fit, maybe sell them on your website? Outstanding product, I'm looking forward to using them this weekend! Thanks Dan!
Glad you're liking the poles. We have links to basket and tips under the FAQ on the Iceline page.
is it 50 inch wide or 52 inch wide which is whats on the website now?
The width will vary depending on how it is pitched (a taller pitch lifts up the sides) so it will typically be in the 50-52" range.
Ruta Locura trekking poles are lighter
Yes. The Iceline poles are the lightest 3 piece adjustable poles, while they have the lightest 2 piece.
Just got this as my first tent. Purchased for my fiance and myself to get into nature. Very hyped I got such a great tent at a very reasonable price( $305 after taxes and shipping!)
Awesome. I hope it works well :)
Just got my X-mid pro 2. Gonna test her out at Cape Lookout National Seashore.
What trekking pole length ist required?
It varies by the model, so look at the 'peak height' spec. But you don't need to measure this - you can just extend the poles until the tent is tight.
are you familiar with what the dimensions are for the x-mid 1 and 2 when in the skinny pitch? as in the x-mid 2 goes from 100x83 to 100x?
It's no longer a rectangle, but it is removing vestibules that are about 25-30" deep at the two corners, so the remaining width is just the floor (52") with a little gap. Let's say 60" wide as a safe guess.
Where is it made ?
These packs are made in Vietnam at a high end factory.
@durstongear That's horrible 😢! Why are they so expensive 😫 If it was made in the usa, Then ok...But in Asia....That's so wrong
@@OdinsRavenwood The Kakwa 40 is a high end pack using premium/expensive materials, yet is a remarkable good price. For example, the Black Diamond Beta Light 45 pack uses the same fabric and is also built in Asia, yet the Kakwa 40 is much more affordable at $250 instead of $400. So this pack is almost half the price yet similar quality and materials. Even though packs from many other brands are also build in Asia, you're not going to find another pack using similar materials that is priced this affordably. All comparable packs are at least $100 more.

It's looks like a amazing bakcpack and I'm already in love with your xmid 2p solid tent! Sad that I'm in Europe that I have to pay extra fee to get it... just a little remark it's you are talking a lot about every different feature of the backpack without opening and showing the inside 😅
for the kind words and suggestion. We have low cost shipping to Europe. There is tax when it arrives but it is the same taxes that would be included in a higher price if it was sold locally, so there aren't more taxes than normal.
Just gotta say, had a bit of a messy pitch in the heavy rain and wind and even with it not being pitched properly it still did an amazing job at weathering the storm and also keeping me dry/comfortable. This really is an amazing tent.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for using our gear. - Dan
Great and clean intro video! I personally would like to see some kind of simple way to close off the bottom and front pockets, just like a little button or tab or string or whatever. Just for those times you absolutely don't want to lose the stuff in your pack. Also, shpuldn't there be a drainage hole at the bottom of the front pocket, since the fabric is waterproof?
Thanks! We do have drainage holes on the front pocket. They are small laser cut holes. Closing the pockets totally shut could be handy, but it's not a common feature so it's hard to add the weight for that in a superlight pack. -Dan

Received my x mid solid here in Devon U.K. last week, I have just set it up in the garden it was very quick to set up and after watching this video about 6 times it gave me great confidence in doing so. Great tent from a great company. I recently used the Kakwa 55 on a six day hike absolutely brilliant and carried load with ease.

Hello Dan! I just received your new trekking poles and they are unbelievable- I recommend everyone get them! One question, do you have any ideas or suggestions about adding/improvising something that acts like straps for the handles? (I may not use straps, but just thinking about ideas)
Glad you're loving them! If you do want straps, any grips intended for 18mm shafts will work. You can remove the original grips by boiling them off, and then put new grips with straps on. Diorite has some nice options.
I really like the continued innovation and the logical improvements you put into your products. Like others have mentioned, wrist straps for me are important and would be worth the increase in weight.
