    It turned out very nice. I love the depth of color on it. Been watching many how to videos on desk tops but by far this is the best one I have seen. I have a small pile of "cheap" lumber that I want to utilize and make a computer desk out of. Will be using a number of the techniques you shown. Thanks for posting.

    This is the first video I've seen that goes for getting that "old needs restoration" look. I love it and I've gotta keep these old weathered boards I came into in their condition as much as possible yet maintain some sort of polish look.

  • @byferner
    @byferner6 ай бұрын

    That’s awesome! I’m so glad to that! It would be a dream to find genuine old boards & material in general to repurpose somehow! But if I don’t I’ll keep making imitations. I’d recommend using wax as a finish, I haven’t gotten to use it myself yet, but I’ve seen some amazing results with it. Keep them protected and still get have that matte realistic look, that they would have from wear/age. Thanks again for watching and the kind words ❤️ means the world!

    @byferner Thanks for fast reply! I have a paint from IKEA that is 100% polyester! Not sure it will absorb or inserting absorbant behind it will work! If it reflects more than passing through or absorb, it will be waste of absorbant behind it 🤷🏻

  • @byferner
    @byferner6 ай бұрын

    @mohamedibrahim1836 i tjong polyester might reflect more. A matte fabric will absorb better in general, but it will also depend on how dense/tight the fabric is. With all that said, any fabric painting with isolating material inside it will have a lot better effect than nothing at all! 😊 Best of luck!

    I did this for my last computer desk and it was honestly not worth it. It looked great at first, but after about two years the pine did not hold up at all and it looked pretty bad. I replaced it with an acacia wood butcher block countertop. It did feel a bit like "cheating" to buy something premade, but it was less than half the price of buying a similar amount of hardwood and doing another glue up. Plus all the time it saved me.

  • @byferner
    @byferner6 ай бұрын

    Really? Sad to hear that Taylor. I have quite the opposite experience actually. I'm still using this table as we speak, 3 years later and it still feels and looks the same. It's holding up great honestly. I'm glad you're happy with your new table though. There's no such thing as cheating in making furniture, it's about doing what makes sense to you. There's no point building a table from scratch if you're not enjoying it, unless you want a very specific custom design of course. Sounds to me like you made the right decision!
