    1. I don't bother about the free AutoOrtho or simheaven, and use the payware Orbx True Earth. At the time of writing it only covers the UK but soon it will cover other areas. I would advise anyone to wait until then. 2. Yes I agree you do need XOrganizer, but I also use it to catergorize the type of planes that I use, so the system loads just those only, making it load faster. That said loading Xplane is faster than loading MSFS 3. You can sent up different profiles for each invidual plane to load automatically, you cannot do that with MSFS 2020 and you have to tell it what you want each time. 5. I agree the outside graphics are better in MSFS but as somebody has already said the default airports in Xplane can be better. 6. Ive been using Xplane for a while and the key bindings can be a bit silly I agree but I never use them. I use the a yoke, rudder pedals and throttle quadrant, so your comment is irrelvant to me. 7. Also for Camera controls I use X-Camera, you can not do that with MSFS2020 because asobo has not unlocked the code to allow 3rd party access.

I have both sims. For me, XP12 still has an aliasing problem, no matter the video card, processor, or slider position. It shimmers, which makes for a poor picture. This is a killer for me.

I used X-Plane 11 for years after ACES gave up on FSX and I had a great time. The only reason I bought X-Plane however was because of the introduction of Orbx TrueEarth, although that technology is a bit more accessible in X-Plane today through various add-ons. Without the TrueEarth scenery unfortunately it's a deal breaker as although the flight model was fun and better in places than MSFS (but not in all cases) my preference for GA flying, I just couldn't cope with the default X-Plane scenery.

As an XP fanboy I had the same difficuity getting used to MSFS key assignments and camera controls. I totally agree about mod fatigue, and I've given up trying to make simheaven not stutter my sim especially in heavy urban areas so nowadays I use only Autoortho and accept the fact that building and forests are not perfect. I would say 12.1 is a step in the correct way, but it is a long way to come still.

Xplane just feels so much nicer to fly. Taking off and landing in msfs feels so jarring and twitchy, as if the plane has no inertia, it all feels fake. What about the CFD??? An actual real time CFD simulation would require tons of computing power. The one put into the sim is so dumbed down and low fidelity, its just there for marketing. Its easy to point to it and say, look! its an advanced flight model! yet the results are poor, the feeling of flight is artificial. Xplanes flight model provides great results for a home desktop sim.

I've loved both Xplane and MSFS and even other flight sims, such as aerofly FS for as long as they've been around pretty much. Once FSX was getting really long in the tooth, I naturally became an XPlane user, as there really was nothing else to scratch my flightsim itch. For me flightsimming is about real feeling airplanes, but also for a large part about scenery that represents reality as much as it can. Xplane really started becoming my default sim since version 10 came out, There were new and exciting developments, and version 11 was even better, With a bunch of ortho and dem data, it can me made to look awesome. Of course 12 would've been awesome, if it weren't for the fact that MSFS came out, which instantly made XPlane look dated, Initially however, Xplane still had the upper hand in physics. But for me that's only part of the equation, so I still preferred MSFS. A few times a week there also these really fun group flights with the likes of TwotoneMurphy, The flying Fabio, etc. There's just nothing like that for Xplane. I'm sure that with the right amount of addons and stuff, you can appoximate the way Xplane looks compared to MSFS, but as demonstrated in this video, getting all that to work is a hobby all to itself.. something I've just about had enough of. I hope Laminar manages to streamline all that in one awesome product that you can just run and have fun. Now with MSFS 2024 on the horizon, Xplane is back to square one with the catchup game again. I really hope they manage to somewhat keep track, because competition is only good for us!

It ate up all my time. Around the year 2004 I started training again earning and additional 8 hours, but then I went a long time with out flying. In 2017 I picked it back up only to decided the flight school was sketchy. I am a 42 year old adult who has wealthy friends with airplanes. There will be a real world 172 video coming out soon. We have always been advised to ignore inputs from real pilots, as they're knowledge of flight mechanics is inferior to an engineer's, and you have no knowledge of pushing an aircraft to it's real limit. You can only fly your aircraft within the restrictions written on your manual. Nothing you say carries any weight.

I use both sims and have spent much more time in MSFS until recently with XP12.1 and the one thing that shocked me jumping back into XP is just how much BETTER default airports look in XP compared to non custom made airports in MSFS that even lack any form of apron flood lighting at night and are completely dark. Yes MSFS does lots of visual things better than XP but not everything and I hope MSFS 2024 has better default airports. Also the scenery SDK in MSFS is an absolute pain where as editing a default airport in XP is super easy and straight forward. I HOPE MS/ASOBO improve this aspect.

Not X plane 13 and 14 but continual updates to the base program The only problem x plane has now is trying to get companies to write for them. Everybody ran to MSFS and dropped X plane, now watch these same guys drop MSFS and run to MSFS 2024 At least X plane has Toliss and X Aviation in their corner. Airfoillabs is good too

I run a physical simulator with loads of custom hardware, so I depend on good software interfacing, which X-Plane excels at. What is the point of having realistic winds, turbulence and such when you have to look at those clouds and ludicrous rainbows? I regretted purchasing active sky almost right away. Why do people keep saying airflow is fake when Asobo continuously shows its computational fluid dynamics model. How do you fake CFD? I can agree ground handling on certain airplanes is problematic in MSFS. I can’t see how the any flight sim can benefit any pilot in real life. To me it’s all entertainment and the FAA apparently feels the same way only allowing 2.5 hrs of batd or aatd time to count towards a ppl or 10 hrs towards instrument rating. @@NightTrainIndustries 1. Flight model isn't per airplane, it's per sim - the aircraft developer only has to fill out a config file with a low poly version of the aircraft used for simulations and information like weights, cgs, drag coefficients etc; so the airplane is irrelevant if the author of the addon has realistic data and uses this correctly. 2. Couple months ago, i still use it every now and then to make scenic shots 3. It's fake - it is not simulated and is pre-determined. Having used Xplane 11, which I especially enjoyed when an Ultralight Gyrocopter came out, which flew exactly like gyro pilots who also were simmers told me it would, I remember the pain of going thru everything you did but once I had everything done, in ways it was more entertaining than MSFS is, especially flying over Arizona. Nonetheless, I feel MSFS, which I only run on an Xbox S, has so much content I enjoy, except for modeling copters and gyrocopters in a less authentic way then I feel Xplane does, in fact there is only one Gyro which I did not even buy knowing that some gyros can land in less than 25 feet. Your video is excellent. I would never tell someone not to buy Xplane. Only reason I do not use it anymore is my old computer died when lightning hit the corner of my apartment building and even killed my fridge. I did salvage its hard drive, but I decided when MSFS 2020 was announced that I would stay with one sim, if it fulfilled its ortho promises which it did. It only is poor when it comes to mesh in places like Guilin China or Angel Falls, near Venezuela and no third party has ever done anything for those places in Xbox. I had good freeware mesh for P3D for Angel Falls which I wanted because I flew there as a tourist in '90 in a twin piston engine Cessna Titan airliner.
