I'd say Rachel's Holiday, it's not the first in the Walsh sister series, but I think it's still early enough not to spoil any earlier books.

You find the most interesting books. I want 100 Happy Poems. What a lovely idea. One poet that makes me happy is Shel Silverstein. I wonder if any of his poems are in there. They are for children but silly adults love them too.

We are book cover kindreds. I am also tired of the covers that show the back of a woman with the titles in neon.

Not being much of a romance reader any covers with cartoon or illustrated couples on them are an immediate turn off for me.

I just bought a lemon ginger cheesecake and was a bit hesitant of the ginger part 😬 Make egg salad with all those eggs!! I don’t like movie tie-ins either. Also, I hate those covers with a single woman looking off into the distance or maybe they’ll show her in side-profile. There’s soooo many like that in HF books. And…..if it’s an “ugly” cover, I’m turned off. I’m a cover snob 😅

I'm quite turned off my the new style of contemporary romance covers with cartoony illustrations. Mainly because I'm not a fan of contemporary romance so this signals what type of book it would be. I used to say I never like books with a man holding a weapon on the cover but The Stormlight Archives changed this!

Covers - I hate covers that are actual photographs especially of faces. I also can’t stand tv and film covers - the only exception being The Book Thief which in the UK is like an oil painting of the main character

I dislike book covers that are tie-ins with film/tv adaptations. And I’m not really into photographs of people being used on covers - except for Anne Tyler books, where for some reason it’s ok! I like old paintings on covers the best, especially when there is garish text juxtaposing the art (like you mentioned in one of your other recent videos).

I would have gone with any of the 3 you struggled with lol. The Tarot, Henry VIII, and Gears for Queers. Excited to hear what you think of it and love the bright, fun cover. Adding to TBR. Also, you should read Razorblade Tears soon. It may be too graphic for you but it’s soooo good.

I don't know if they are my _favorite_ quotes of all time, but the two quotes I use as my e-mail signature are the ones that sprung immediately to mind! "I meant," said Ipslore, bitterly, "what is there in this world that makes living worth while?" Death thought about it. CATS, he said eventually, CATS ARE NICE. --Terry Pratchett, "Sourcery" "But one has to make some sort of choice," said Harriet. "And between one desire and another, how is one to know which things are really of overmastering importance?" "We can only know that," said Miss de Vine, "when they have overmastered us." --Dorothy L. Sayers, "Gaudy Night"

I wonder what her would think about the book ( Mr. Fix It and Miss Sue ). It is. no nonsense coming of age story where the brat dose not get her why. Book overview: This is the poetic tale of Miss Sue, a contentious young woman no matter what a father and mother would do. In trying to raise a proper woman of dignity and respect, what she became as she grew up was something they did not expect. So what are the parents to do when they are down to their last wit, and realize they have no choice but to send for Mr. Fix It. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

The third book by Alison Weir came out recently, “The Passionate Tudor: The Story of Queen Mary I.” I really think you would like this one. Mary was a tragic person in history because of the life her father created for her. His insatiable desire for a male heir. She ultimately became Queen but the road was not easy. She would be known as Bloody Mary. She was her father’s daughter.

My fave quote is from The Road by Cormac McCarthy, the father about his son - ‘He said: If he is not the word of God God never spoke’. So heartbreakingly tender. Speaking of the election and Bridget Jones in one vid, have you heard that apparently Helen Fielding based Mark Darcy on KEIR STARMER as they moved in similar circles in London in the 90s?? It could be an urban myth/unverified internet rumour but it is scarily plausible 😂

Razorblade Tears has had rave reviews. It’s about two dads seeking revenge for the murder of their sons who were a married couple. Elena Knows is a marvellous book. The main character is battling with Parkinson’s. It’s now been made into a film. Indelicacy is on my shelf unread still. Dara MacNulty is a neurodivergent writer. The audio you’d probably love.
