Love these lists. Nightbloom and Brotherless Night will also make my list. I really want to read Pet, as I loved remote sympathy. Ahhh I share those memories of pop music and that time! I was 13-23 then 😊

You probably are already aware but there is a Spotify playlist for your best book of the year so far 😊 5 star reads for me this year have been beartown, all the light we cannot see and clear by carys Davies. I'm also going to add pet to my tbr after your recommendation!

Other than some fabulous re-reads I haven't had more than a few five stars reads this year and most of those are poetry collections. My favourite new to me book this year has been My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier.

So glad you are back after your break. I’ve had a really mixed year with my reading . I finished Slum boy by Juano Diaz and Poor by Katriona O’Sullivan last month which were 5 stars and I can’t recommend them enough. I seem to be having better luck with 5 star non fiction books at the moment. 💛

I’ve also had a bit of a rubbish reading this year so far. Women’s Prize was not for me this year which was sad although I did like Brotherless Night and was glad it won for the same reason as you. I honestly haven’t read any five stars this year and have found myself just picking up crime/thrillers at the moment!

The House on the Strand is amazing, isn't it? I agree, there are some fantastic du Maurier books and some not so .... I highly recommend The Loving Spirit if you haven't already read it 🙂 My favourite book of the year so far is Gormenghast by Mervyn Peake - it's such a different kind of fantasy series where this huge castle is the main star of the novel 🏰

So happy to see a Kiwi author doing so well! I think you will love Catherine Chidgey’s latest, The Axeman’s Carnival. Different again, she is so clever! (She is also a translator and translated my favourite book for babies, Tickle My Ears 🤯)

Ooh House on the Strand sounds great!! Will need to pick it up 😄 On the note of time travel books have you read 11/22/63 by Stephen King?! Time travel but isn’t horror or supernatural like his other stuff but just a brilliant book about people and love and an adventure, his characters are just so great, excellent audiobook too ❤

Not had many 5* reads... Mainly because I can't find anything different! Awful lot of books at the moment seem to be a version of something I have already read. Possibly need to explore indie publishers more!
