    You were very wise to not climb Devils Hole. Although your machine almost certainly could have, it's an incredibly dangerous stunt. That P.D.F. you're wearing might as well be a rock in this part of the river.

    @MarkForrestAdventures11 күн бұрын

    Oh yes was not going to be doing that one that day for sure. I have seen that it could be not worth it to me for sure. Just getting there and seeing it up close was good enough for me. Oh yes that water will suck you down life jacket and all.

  • @tommygreen3338
    @tommygreen333811 күн бұрын

    @MarkForrestAdventures . You may find this hard to believe, but I've "swam" the Devils Hole wearing one of those big ugly orange life jackets on 3 different occasions. I worked on the Whirlpool Jet Boats many years ago. Time permitting, the dock staff would occasionally take one of those boats out to go play. The captain would climb the Devil's Hole and position us just so. When the captain gave us the nod, we jumped into the water and away we went. That's a 16 foot drop right there. Captain would pick us out of the river as we approached the hydro dams. It's not so much a swim as it is reading the water and trying to avoid the bigger eddies. Man, how that gets the adrenaline pumping.

    My wife and I did this a month ago, launching from Tobmermory but there was a bit of a wind, so didn't venture quite as far as the Grottos, although it turns out we were close. @@MarkForrestAdventures Mark I live along the Coast of Maine and for nearly 3 decades ran a small nature tour boat operation. So I'll quote one of my many guests as to jet skis. The guest in question was an 8 year old girl from New Jersey. She and her family had come to Maine to experience the great natural beauty and peacefulness of the eastern Maine Coast. Sadly she happened to arrive here while a large multi million dollar yacht from Miami was anchored in the harbor and as we were passing by they launched a jet ski. Hearing its loud whine the little girl turned to her parents with a look of great disappointment and said, "Oh no! They are here too!" I am not anti jet ski per se but they do not belong in the relatively few truly semi wild places we have left.

  • @MarkForrestAdventures
    @MarkForrestAdventures22 күн бұрын

    Nice that must have been such an amazing job. That is too bad, but like you said that sounds like some million air brat and I am not a fan of them either. Plus now the units at least from SeaDoo are so much quitter than before and exhaust into the water so very quite. There has been a large switch to more people riding and exploring than just out to rip around and these riders do care about the water and the backcountry as I meet them all the time and what my channel is about. So I agree the guys that just go to rip it up for 30 min should stay out in the bigger bays but if you are really there to explore and enjoy the nature and waters all for it. Hope you are still getting out there all the best Cheers!

    @@MarkForrestAdventures Good to hear that you try to act responsibly but as usual it's the bad apples that spoil the barrel so I tend to be very wary of jet ski use in back of the beyond areas. As to my career as a charter boat captain like most jobs it had its good points and its bad. Days that started at 6 am often dragged on until 10 or 11 pm answering phone calls and emails and handling paperwork. I loved meeting people from all over the world however and the coast of Maine is a pretty beautiful work environment. I retired in 2019 because of Covid and sold all my motor powered watercraft. I travel these days by paddling an old 12' Royalex Old Town Pack canoe and I gotta say I don't miss the sound of a motor one little bit!

    @@MarkForrestAdventures the insurance company picked up the machine yesterday and I'm finalizing all the paperwork today. So, I expect the payout this week. What's next is up in the air. Frankly, I'm thinking about a different brand. If you recall, I had a brand new 300 GTX sink on me second time out (hose clamp) last summer. Then, this mishap where in the hull is not repairable sans a small crack has me pondering. I'm investigating whether I should transition to a Kawasaki Jet Ski. The hulls are hand-laid fiberglass done in Southern California. I know all three manufacturers have their own warts. But, two summers in a row now I've had a major mishap with a a Sea Doo. and it is disconcerting......Yes, the mishap was definitely content. I am SO GLAD I had an automatic bilge pump and a tow tap cutoff valve installed--both were helpful while under stress. I know we have traded messages about this in the past. But, when you have an emergency, it was reassuring to know I had both.....Lastly, oh content. My video that is trending the most: me standing in my garage talking about equipment and mods on the Sea Doo. NOT, the films I think about, get drone shots, add audio tracks, research, give history...some off the cuff talk through. LOL. Cheers, Mark.

    With the weight of the snow and ice a normal cover would sag and possibly fail and let water and snow inside. With the shrink wrap it just slides right off.
