Let's go catch some fish!
Howdy folks! My name is Casey Smith, and ever since I was 5 years old my passion has been the outdoors! Follow me on my adventures, as I show you how to ridiculously overcomplicate fishing. Question? Feel free to hit me up on social media, or say hello if you see me on the water!

They should change that word Mojo back to Avid.
How did you mount that motor to the front of the boat? Did you have to do something custom to do a bow mount on it?
@@adamjohnson9014 Nope, these boats come with a spot to mount in the front or back
What is the digital chip for?
@@joshblanket8056 To help control the spool in case of backlashes👍🏽
What about the st croix triumph? around the same price as the veritas
@@kylewon That’s an awesome rod, totally recommend it. I’ve done a review on that rod in the past
Awesome. Thank you. I'm buying it now lol
Hey humbug! It’s the kid from scheels. I’m going to get a Jon boat (12ft) and deck it to have a mini bass host any tips?
@@YETI820 Go check out Tiny Boat Nation, they will have all the mods and kits to help make that boat look sick! Thanks for commenting👍🏽
@@humbugvideos yes my stepdad told me about tiny boat nation. I got a lot of inspiration from them but I was just wondering if you might have more not mentioned in the video. Thanks!
It’s not that I don’t want to have 40 rods I just am broker than a homeless person😂😂😂😂😂
When i go solo, i take my kayak. But if I am taking someone else, i end up hauling two kayaks, which is good and all, but when they need help, it can be tricky helping from my own kayak. I think a setup like this would be great if i go with someone that is much less experienced or i an going with someone that needs more help.
To what depth in the water can it read?
5:55 Rudders for days!🤣
You talk to darn much get to the test
Another great video. Thanks for the ideas. Do you have any protection against wear when dragging the boat in and out of the water? If so, would like to see how you did it.
@@TheJenkins124 I have thrown some gator guard underneath but it has since rubbed off. I’m looking at some other options!
Holy crap. What was your set up? And also what lure were you using?
I’m In Washington where everything is expensive af and it’s still 50-60$. I’m going to pick one up today along with a sst rod. 100-120$ for my first decent set up
Funny you said Boise river as I’m upgrading my trout rod for after work Boise river fishing 🤣
An absolute must add on. Great job. I went lazy; purchased the bracket and a Bullnose ruder which is designed just for this purpose. Adds a little more to the cost but makes it a super easy project. Great job. The homemade rudder will probably be more effective because of the size. However; the Bullnose rudder does work just fine.
@@williamcotton8746 Since this video I have actually went with a bullnose too. May do an update in the future. Thanks for the comment!
My first casting reel was a black max,I love it and still have it
These rods are all great for the money. Really inspect closely when buying. Learn how to replace tip tops and guides.. as the guide frames break easy and often. Buy quality replacement guides and you’ll never have to replace or fix again.
What do you think about the Shakespeare wild series trout rod/reel combo? I’m looking to get into ultralight fishing and it’s really hard to find information about ultralight rods.
@@sheamartin911 never used em! Cant say
Is the newer version also good?
@@wasappp3199 yup!
I have had nothing but problems with Diawa products. Even the Ballistic has let me down. They cant compare to Shimano products, period!!!
These rods are monsters took a beating with a red snappers.. then bend is wicked.
so for the freshwater a 7ft medium and fast action ?? And also what about an all around inshore saltwater fishing/ surf fishing setup ?
All around saltwater do an 8 foot medium heavy and a 4000 size reel
This guy should really have more subs for the quality of his vids he’s definitely underrated, keep it up man!
@@tinytechman thank you!
Great video brother, thanks for the help👍
Hey humbug, I love the video. But I was just wondering if I could use 30lb braid on my medium power ugly stik carbon. The rod itself recommends 6-12lb line but I was wondering if I could use heavier line then the rods recommendation or not.
@@suhaibabuelezz7628 For spinning setups the max I’d typically go with braid is 30. So you’ll be alright👍🏽
Alright thank you
i love the Okuma 8.6ft and 8.0ft Celilo rods for crappie and bream fishing. Okuma and Ugly Stik are the only rods i use.
So for an all around set up you mentioned a medium power but what about the action? I was looking at a 7 ft medium power rod but it has alot of action options
@@julioromojr7847 for all around I would go fast action!
@@humbugvideos Thank you so much for this video I'm so excited to get started fishing but there is so much to learn. i am stuck between the ugly stick gx2 combo and the Ozark trail OTX combo the spec seem to be the same.
Wow, nice bass!😎👍
$190 is mid-range, but whether it's "pretty affordable" or not depends on your income. FJB
A rod is a rod, i catch'em on no name shit
Penn firece good, Shimano reels,
I don’t really know what rod to get. I like fishing for bass, pike, and catfish and just a variety of different species. I was thinking about an ugly stik GX2 since I don’t have a high budget and people say it’s durable. But I don’t know, what do you think is a great all around rod for under $100 for multiple species?
Ugly Stik would be a good choice, and because its so cheap you could potentially get another rod to cover different species!
@@humbugvideos what about a ugly stik carbon to cover everything?
@@uniepc8433 Yup, that would work as well! I’d swing into a local shop and just compare em to see which one u prefer 👍🏽
Alright thank you. Great video too btw.
It's a great reel. I just purchased the 4000 three months ago and so far it is wonderful.
Remember that one time your husband saw a KZread guy remove a section out of his tackle box and asked you if you can do it for him ? He said he made it sound easy to do . Well let me tell you with a day worth of work using a hack saw and my nail drill , we are barely still married but I got it done lol !! Dude any hints on how you did it because I feel like my way wasn’t the best way lol . Thank you for the video !!
@@evansupergrany6 I’d love to help you out, but mine was probably messier than yours!🤣 I did a lot of sanding at the end
@@humbugvideos well I’m almost finished and I’m not at all not messy lol but I am happily married and would do anything for that old man … except this again hahahahaha !
Great Video on rod and reel combo. I enjoyed the breakdown and the price range. I am planning on one more combo and you gave me good info to think about
Useful video. I'm trying to build a fishing rod primarily for targeting small to medium-sized fish in the open ocean, such as surf perch. Because I will need to cast constantly, a lightweight rod is very important to me. It also needs to be easy to maneuver and have the ability to cast farther. I'm unsure what the perfect length of the rod would be for this application. Any thoughts on this?
@@237311 off the surf I used to fish an 8-9 foot rod. Medium heavy
Ugly stick carbon are fantastic along with my Stradic 2500HG FM reel.
GOATED
I think for me my two rods are either Johnny Morris Carbonlite 2.0s or an Ugly Stick. Reels I’m playing around with.
@@ghilliemanreviews I have a video covering the best ones for different price points!
Great list of rods. The new SLX A series rods also have anti -twist tech. For $100 they’re good rods. Just picked up a med. action Cashion element rod for throwing jerk baits. They run around $130 but Imo well worth it.
Definitely looking forward to getting one in the future. Nice boat!
Casey consider adding about 2' of chain between the rope & anchor. It helps the anchor lay down to get a better bite. As Always thanks all the great vids
@@ratled1 My front anchor I have the chain, and your right it helps tremendously. Appreciate the comment!
Do you have plans for any onboard lighting? Just curious.

Make good crankbait rods .
For a regular 2 inch crank bait, any suggestions on what size to buy. Way to many choices, hit and miss, what size did you use in the video.
@@luke_8_17 Get one of the smallest sizes u can, u really don’t need much for a 2 inch crank
