When i go solo, i take my kayak. But if I am taking someone else, i end up hauling two kayaks, which is good and all, but when they need help, it can be tricky helping from my own kayak. I think a setup like this would be great if i go with someone that is much less experienced or i an going with someone that needs more help.

An absolute must add on. Great job. I went lazy; purchased the bracket and a Bullnose ruder which is designed just for this purpose. Adds a little more to the cost but makes it a super easy project. Great job. The homemade rudder will probably be more effective because of the size. However; the Bullnose rudder does work just fine.

Useful video. I'm trying to build a fishing rod primarily for targeting small to medium-sized fish in the open ocean, such as surf perch. Because I will need to cast constantly, a lightweight rod is very important to me. It also needs to be easy to maneuver and have the ability to cast farther. I'm unsure what the perfect length of the rod would be for this application. Any thoughts on this?
