Great video. If you can get away with lighter line try Varivas Super Ester line- I use 2.3lb (0.117mm) and have caught many 20”+ trout, bass, walleye. It is very slick -kinda plastiky, super sensitive -as much and perhaps more than braid because it doesn’t go limp, no stretch, sinks which will help get and keep your tiny lures down and will send your them out like a rocket. I suggest spooling at least a day before fishing -so line ‘adjusts’ to your reel, and to ‘just more than slightly’ under fill the spool when getting used to fishing with it. It can ‘jump’ off the spool. Need to close your bail immediately after lure hits water. I use a 2lb 6’ flouro leader attached with either a blood knot or 3 turn surgeon’s knot (with rods that have micro guides and knot goes through great and does not get frayed like braid does). Unlike braid it can develop line twist, but can be managed in the usual ways. Comes in clear, neon orange, yellow, and red. Does not ever lose color or fade. Great for watching line for subtle takes. Definitely has a learning curve, but I absolutely love this line! I use Trout Magnet 2lb mono as a backing line attached with a blood knot. Comes in 140 meter spools. I can get 3 reels worth.

I've stop doing altra light rod got tired of braking them on trout just go with light power rod. And use monofilament line for everything I fish. Why is fly fishing so soft rod and Long rod and hook weight only. And flexible is the key to fly fishing. Other ways to get the lure out where you want it to go. Practicing is the next key to light fishing what I dune for my hole life. Bass fishing is new to me with 12 lbs line is like for the weed eater replacement line. Like the slingshot throw for trout fishing in high Rocky mountain streams N.M. Desert fishing is so fun up to Colorado.

Jig head for trout fishing 🤔 never herd of that for trout fishing. My father and grandfather would be 😮 that's not for that. That's what they would say to me. Big fly and spinner, pistol pet fishing my family.

What he's basically describing is a prototytical LRF or even better ULRF rod...If you can find 4lb braid even better( suffix nanobraid for wxample but there are much better quality braided lines in Japan), it will catapult small lures out there. The japanese know what they're doing...As far as lures are concerned soft and hard plastics won't cut it as far as casting distance is concerned. Metal jigs like the shimano soare metal shot tg (tungsten) come as light as 3gr (less rhan 1/8 oz) being so aerodynamic and made out of such a dense material will shock you with how far they will reach out there. The denser the material a lure is made out of and the more aerodynamic the shape of the lure (think teardrop style shape), the furthest it will cast. Combine it with relative large rings for the size of the rod and rod imserts made out of friction resistant material like torzite and this will also agfect the casting distance in a big way. Lastly, the use of silicon spray on your line will also help reach further out (e.g varivas pe line conditioning pro).

@@r91976 Ya, Japan really does things right, but I didn’t want to go ultra specific in this video. I love spoons and heavy tungsten stuff but sometimes the slow fall of a plastic is what the fish want. I threw spoons on this trip and they didn’t want it, the plastic however they hammered. Appreciate the insight, u obviously know your stuff!

Of course you're right.I love soft plastics and hard plastics myself, I was just explaining that if as an angler casting distance is your priority, then metal jigs are king for that. Every lure has its place though, I agree with you 100%. Greetings from a subscriber of yours from Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean (Greece) @@humbugvideos

@@humbugvideos you could have a M powered rod with say 5-15g casting weight (1/8oz and up) you could have 2lb braid...you'll never cast 1g well. The rod won't be able to load properly with the 1g weight so the rod is the bottleneck. You could have a XUL rod with .5-3g casting for example and have 12lb braid and it will easily outcast the 2lb braid on the M rod
