    Thanks, excellent video! I was wondering about when the vocal cords are closed...you mention to wait for when the baby takes a breath, but what if you are intubating an apneic baby, will the cords eventually open?

    Only 29% of babies with Moderate and Severe HIE pass away or develop disabilities? Don't get me wrong, 29% is devastating, I just came across a lot of materials that claim much higher numbers even for Moderate HIE... Doctor, do you have an opinion? Is 29% true? My baby has HIE Moderate, I'm so scared.

    Intubation in newborns is used in several critical situations to manage and secure the airway. These include: Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS): Common in premature infants whose lungs are not fully developed and lack sufficient surfactant, leading to difficulty breathing. Meconium Aspiration Syndrome: When a newborn inhales a mixture of meconium and amniotic fluid into the lungs, causing blockage and respiratory distress. Congenital Anomalies: Such as diaphragmatic hernia, tracheoesophageal fistula, or choanal atresia, which obstruct the airway or impair normal breathing. Severe Infections: Including neonatal pneumonia or sepsis, which can compromise respiratory function. Perinatal Asphyxia: When a newborn experiences a lack of oxygen before, during, or just after birth, leading to the need for immediate respiratory support. Premature Birth: Very premature infants often require intubation due to underdeveloped lungs and weak respiratory effort. Surgical Procedures: Infants needing surgery, especially those involving the airway or chest, may be intubated to ensure a secure airway during the procedure. Neuromuscular Disorders: Conditions like spinal muscular atrophy or congenital myopathies that can impair the muscles needed for breathing. In these cases, intubation helps to secure the airway and provide adequate ventilation and oxygenation to the newborn.

    How does this compare to breastfed premies?

  • @thenicudoc

    Premature babies that have received enough maturity to breastfeed still require fortification because they are still in the process of growth and development and some of that is actually catch up.

  • @smrutiisweta8954
    @smrutiisweta89542 ай бұрын

    I had noticed these behaviour in my baby in 2nd month. Around 3rd month I made a video on it and consulted my pediatrician. He recognised it as convulsive disorder. He gave Gardenal syrup of 2.5ml in every night. My baby is no more doing this. Still under observation.

  • @thenicudoc
    @thenicudocАй бұрын

    Convulsive disorder is usually another term for seizure. When called "disorder" it means there is an ongoing diagnosis. A seizure if what you see, a disorder is an ongoing problem. I cannot discuss direct medical care, so please do make sure you continue your evaluations from your doctor and seek second opinion if concerned. Best of luck and may your little one be safe.

    I was wondering why you would order an amplitude rather than power. Amplitude is variable and can fluctuate given changes in lung compliance and airway resistance. I know this is an eternal debate just would love to hear your opinion.

    You're not wrong. It is similar to the debate of VG vs. PC. Some swear by one vs. the other and in certain populations, it makes a difference. Bit the majority, it really doesn't make any physiological difference.

    Thank you very much for this content! My wife gave birth last week to our beautiful son, unfortunately as emergency C-Section as my wife felt that there could be something wrong with the baby in her womb (movements were less intense and less frequent). We went to the hospital during the day and they took her immediately for C-Section as they saw that there was meconium in the amniotic fluid and the vital signals of the baby were not ok. The baby was born already with an infection and was provided from the beginning oxygen to assist his breathing. They gave him antibiotics and kept him in neonatal unit. After one day there they moved him to intensive care and were observing him. He had slightly bluish spots also his hand and feet were bluish. An ultrasound showed that liver and spleen were bigger than the norm. Enzymes of the liver were high as well. during the next days all values normalized, also the size of the organs. But his CRP levels and thrombocytes levels are not constant so they have to monitor these periodically. Also an ultrasound showed some "spots" in the brain which apparently are not normal and there they've planned an MRI to be performed in 4 days still (day 12 of life of the baby) to check what it is exactly. Doctors don't give us any diagnostic yet...they think it could be some metabolic, hematological or genetic disorder but I don't understand why. They keep asking us if there is any history in our families of genetic disorders or sudden death in any of our relatives. Our son is showing all the here described symptoms and to me is clear that his condition has been caused by the aspiration of meconium affecting the oxygen supply and causing the infections he had and possibly explaining the spots they see in the brain. Day 8th: The baby is still in the intensive care and the doctors are concerned of his neurological condition as he does not act and move like a "typical" newborn. We as parents have our ups and downs because doctors are not conclusive to his conditions and we still don't know what to expect 😟...I only found out about the hypothermia therapy only 2 days ago and I'm worried that the doctors didn't applied it due to negligence. We will speak to them now specifically about it. Thank you again!!
