Hiking Heaven

I am an avid bushwalker who is passionate about the Australian bush & I do single or multi day hikes. I am also a long distance walker who has done long multi day walks including fourteen Caminos in Spain, France & Portugal. The joy that it brings me I like to capture in video & tell a story of my journeys, I let the images speak for themselves & blended with music help weave the story. I won't waste time in front of the camera to talk about what is going on, I let the camera do the talking & will take you through every moment no matter how difficult the situation is I will always capture it & present it. My narrative I keep it as short & informative as possible & done off camera in voice over so that the images before my eyes are the driving force of the video. I do these hikes either solo or as a member of many hiking groups

    I am 75 years old Scot and have done ten Caminos. I begin my next one on May 1st, walking the Camino Fonseca from Salamanca. I have walked the Frances four times and consider it to be the best despite the crowds from Sarria. My first Frances was in 2007 and started in Poitiers. My most recent Frances was last year finishing on September 25th.I then caught the bus North to Ferrol and walked the Camino Ingles. Most pilgrims don't know why the Camino Frances is called the Frances. It's not because it starts in St. Jean Pied de Port as most people assume.

    In Irache winery, there is a scripture at the walls, which read”Be respectful” so I saw a hiker filing a filled half a litre bottle with wine. I ask if it’s is lack of respect or ignorance.

  • @JoeCarmona
    @JoeCarmona3 ай бұрын

    Thanks, there is a sign in Spanish "Normas de Uso" Rules of Use "beber sin abusar" drink without abuse, it doesn't specify an amount but what it does state that if you want to take the wine they would like you to purchase it from the winery. There is a total limit of 100 litres per day from the fountain so if you happen to stay in Estella 3 kms from Irache then you will have the best chance to sample pure wine. I had stayed in Cirauqui some 17kms away so when I arrived mid afternoon unfortunately it was more water than wine as one of the Spanish members of the group called out "clarete" watered down wine. There is also a web camera that is on 24/7 that allows you to see the pilgrims visiting the fountain. Buen Camino

Very much enjoyed your video. I start the Frances from SJPDP in mid April this year. It will be my first time doing the Frances having previously walked the Portuguese Central from Lisbon and the Portuguese Coastal from Porto, both in the last two years (started on my 60th in 2022). Like most people I’ve been bitten by the Camino bug and hopefully I can continue one Camino each year for the foreseeable future. I walked from Lisbon to Santiago in 26 days but felt it was rushed so this time plan to take my time as I have no flight home booked. Luckily, I can hop a flight from Santiago back to Edinburgh, Scotland fairly easily so no rush this time. Your video has really whetted my appetite. Can I ask, did you have any issues finding a bed? I will be in front of you as I plan to do four consecutive Caminos beginning April 1 from SJPDP and so far I have only booked SJPDP and Roncesvalles but I hear that late April and May is usually much busier than August as the weather is ideal for walking so if you aren't rushed and know where you want to be most nights then obviously book not all but important stages, have a Buen Camino and I might see you in Santiago, look for the Aussie with Akubra hat

    Great performance, i hope to do it this summer also in about 26 days. Which hoka model did you use?

  • @JoeCarmona

    Thanks, if you aim to do it in that timeframe then make sure to incorporate about four or five days of 42-45 kms as there are some set stages of 25 kms which brings your average per day down, there's plenty of opportunities la Rioja and la Meseta and from Sarria to Santiago. I had Hokas Annacapa more a slightly heavier trail shoe that had plenty of cushioning, I will be back in Spain in March to do four consecutive Caminos about 1400 kms and I aim to take two pairs another Hokas Annacapa and a pair of Speedgoat, Buen Camino

    Thanks for the advice! I had already seen that you made some shorter days at the beginning and some longer ones at the end. I have 32 days net time and would like to get to Finisterre if possible. If not, i’ll be back ;-) I adore my Speedgoat, but as I saw in your video, they probably won't last until Finisterre… We will see. Buen Camino!

    @@michel.h_cf99 At the start of my Camino I also had 33 days and I wanted to end in Muxia, but it's quite amazing how it pans out and you're able to do the long distances in between consistent 30 odd kms days to nullify those days when you're forced to do only 25 kms. Look at it as a long marathon and only think of the stage in front of you and everything should work out, my mantra is concentrate only in the next ten minutes then reset again and again this will keep you in present time. The Hoka Speedgoat's I plan to take will be for after I get to Santiago and I only aim to get 600 kms from them. Buen Camino
