    Will the Kwikset-Smartkey-Rekey set match Defiant keys? I have all matching Defiant locks, and need one more set. Wondering if a Kwikset will accept a standard Defiant key?

    I just bought this one and installed but I’ve been doing exactly what you show in the video : I pressed the programming button below battery then I press num 1 but ones I press the check mark for the fist time immediately fail with 3 bips along with red light flashing. I doesn’t even give me chance to enter my code for the first time. Please I need to know what is wrong here . Thanks

    I also struggled, BUT it is very important to follow exactly what he says. Make sure the metal pieice that connect to two piece is HORIZONTAL, not Flat and the inside piece is straight up and down when you connect the two piece. That will make all fhe difference.

    here's where i screwed up and can't fix. while the original key was still in the lock, i inserted the tool, then i accidentally turned the key. now neither key works at unlocking. the key just turns the door knob but not the lock. i successfully reprogrammed 2 dead bolts prior to this with zero issues

    This lock won’t let me delete a old code. I’ve did everything the website and instructions the lock came with and it will not let me do a factory reset no matter how many times I take the batteries out and leave them out.

    Do you actually have to wiggle the key? It's unclear with the animation.. and I've been at it for 3 hours, it just won't budge. So I guess tomorrow I'll take it back to the hardware store and get a new one..

    Hi - The key is used to lock and unlock the deadbolt, should the batteries die. The lock can be installed and used electronically even if you do not have the key, yet we recommend re-keying the lock in case the batteries were to die. Thanks ~ Kwikset Social

    Hi @RobynZupancic - Here are the steps to fix this: 1. Open the door and place the latch in the locked position. 2. Remove the interior assembly of the lock. 3. Check that the flat blade piece is in the vertical position. See Section 4-B. 4. And ensure that the turn-piece is also in the vertical position when reinstalling the interior assembly. 5.     Amazing. I didn't know such a thing was possible. I do see a security concern though: if someone has your key they could re-key your locks and lock you out.

    If they have your key, they have access to everything a lock is suppost to protect. They are far more likely to steal everything, than simply lock you out of your own property.

    Hi! The key can be removed when in either the locked position or the unlocked position. If you are unable to remove the key, please follow these steps: 1. Open the door and place the latch in the locked position. Remove the Key from the cylinder, unscrew, and remove the interior assembly of the lock. 2. Ensure that the Flat Blade tailpiece is vertical and the latch is still locked, as shown on page 13. 3. Reattach the interior assembly and complete the Rehanding process on page 19. 4.     This smarkey system is really neat. I bought a separate smartkey deadbolt and a keyed door handle two years ago for a garage to home entry door. I finally rekeyed it today so that I only need 1 key and it worked perfectly. Recently bought a keyless entry lock for the side garage entry door and Ill be rekeying the side gate door.

    It sounds like your lock is working in reverse. To fix this, please open the door and place the latch in the locked position. Unscrew and remove the interior assembly of the lock. Reattach the interior assembly ensuring that the flat blade is in the vertical position, as well as the turn piece, as shown in section 4-B of the installation guide. Next. rehand the lock, per step 15.

    The turn piece doesn't want to say vertical. It stays at a 45 deg angle.

    Hi - During the installation, please ensure the latch is locked and the flat blade is vertical. The interior turn-piece should be rotated vertically when it's off the door to install it vertically onto the door.     I use these on my rentals and one thing I've learned when setting the new key is to go back and forth multiple times. I've had a few times where the tumbler wasn't set 100%. Ended up having to take it apart to do the tumbler reset
