My 8th grade algebra teacher is from Joplin, she missed a whole week to go down and locate her family. Never knew how destructive this tornado was until this video. Sent absolute chills through my body. God bless everyone who lives through this. I cannot imagine.

Hi Jeff, I was just wondering if you could please consider doing a new video about this storm system heading to Florida, they do think that it could become a Hurricane, and furthermore I was wondering if you'll go to Florida to cover the storm? Thanks!! Love to see you do another stream if you're recovered from Beryl!! I think its important for the safety of the community when you go to these!

I’ve watched a lot of tornado videos and the end of this one was one of the hardest and most real watches ever. RIP to the victims of this monster.

I’m from Missouri and Joplin is about 3 hours and 36 minutes from where I still live. In 2011 I was 5 years old, now 18. I wish I remembered more of that day.

Deposition driven stovepipe tornado to deposition driven tube or sock tornado. Very cool. SW OK seems to get a lot of deposition driven tornados. West South-Central OK, Tornado Basin (area bounded by Lawton to OKC to Sulfur), tends to get a lot of condensation driven wedge tornados-and monster in size. Thanks for the vid.

carousel park in the first shot gave me chills… i was 7 years old on this fateful night, gettin ready for a family bbq. im born and raised in california, but lived in joplin from 2010-2014 so my dad could go to school at MSSU while we spent time with my paternal grandparents. so wild that fate brought us to this brutal natural disaster. i remember being in my grandma’s basement crying, with the only comfort being provided to me from the warmth of my family’s arms. we were in a different part of town that didn’t get hit much, and im incredibly grateful my family got out unscathed. because of that, i didnt realize the sheer destruction that had been caused that day. i went on a drive the next morning with my mom to the local homeless shelter, providing whatever we could to our community, and what we saw as we drove down the roads of joplin have scarred me to this day. 13 years since then, and i still think back to the 161 lives that were lost and the thousands of more that were forever altered. i’ve never seen such stupendous display of community and humility before and after this event, it showed me how to be a true neighbor.
