    I'd be ashamed to turn out a cabinet that had the start/stop hole locations offset like that. Looks terrible! You need to have stops left and right. Geez. Take this video down, it's hard enough getting young folks into the business anymore without showing them sloppy work ethics like this. I'm surprised your clients accept this!

    There are a few suggestions to think about before you start your own woodworking company Will you have help from your spouse? Are you someone who is self-motivated? Will you carry out the plan? Do you have the funds to go ahead? (I discovered these and the reasons they work from Enata wood system website )

    Yes, it'd be nice if they spec'd the machining parameters, but let's see what we can deduce: The machining produces a 300 Hz tone. If we assume a 1-flute tool: 300 Hz -> 1/min 18000 So probably 18k RPM, or maybe a 2-flute running at 9k RPM. For the feedrate: 19 seconds to do a pass around the piece, which looks around 30 cm diameter, so: 30 cm * pi / (19 s) -> mm/min 2976.2456718219093833 We do know the stock is 1.5" thick. We don't see all the passes, but it must be at least half a dozen. 1.5 inch / 6 -> mm 6.35 Maybe 4 or 5 mm per pass? Shrug. :) Calculations are in Frink syntax.

    It's cast acrylic. Extruded acrylic has a lower heat tolerance and it's more likely that the chips will weld back onto the material. Also, using the correct speeds and feeds solves melting.

    A strip of tape brings the whole project together. A 2" wide non s-t-r-e-t-c-h / Kleen Peel film tape adhered to the material on the opposite side of the sheet prior to routing will hold the definition of the miter-fold joint perfectly while the glue cures. Z Axis should be down to, but not through the 5 mil, 400 Lb. Tensile Strength film backing. Once the bond is made simply peel off the sticky* tape. The adhesive peels kleen and leaves no residue on the finished part. See www.allstaradhesives.com (V Groove Tape(s).

    Hey Esteban, I personall use a 9.5mm Onsrud 3 Flute Up Spiral Finishing Bit (tool number 60-245) and cut in multiple passes at 4.75mm per pass (or less, the rule is to cut around the same depth as half the tool diameter per pass). Try a "last pass compensation" too, allow about +0.2mm bigger on the roughing cuts and bring the last pass in to the required size for a clean edge. I cut 25mm thick acrylic like this a few times a week. Feed : 2000mm/min Plunge : 1500mm/min (V-Ramp) RPM : 18000

  • @kieronlomax3328
    @kieronlomax332810 жыл бұрын

    Generally 2000mm/min, sometimes a little quicker if the chips are getting too hot and "clumping". Sharp bit makes a huge difference, try more and shallower passes with a final cleanup if you're struggling. Or, get a 120W laser! I'm doing 25mm thick acrylic on our 100W.

    Marks on the side are tricky though, I usually end up with a matt finish that needs cleanup and polishing. I'd love a diamond finishing bit but at $1000+ Australian it's not an option. If anyone has tips for polished edges on the cheap, let me know too!

    Kieron Lomax I've 'heard' that MAP gas torch will polish the edges. I've never tried as I didn't have the $50 to throw down to experiment, but I've read a few places that is how they polish sides

    Kieron Lomax how you avoiding taper cut with such a depth? I have 40W laser and can only cut 5 mm in one pass but still laser beam is kind of cone shape

    Any tips on machining less the 1/8" styrene or acrylic. I work mostly with .03 - .08". I'm thinking about buying a small hobby CNC router. I see you have industrial grade machines but I figured you guys might still have some good tips on bits and speeds for styrene or acrylic.
